2012 LEGO sets: LEGO Monster Fighters

During the recent toy fairs LEGO has introduced a new theme called LEGO Monster Fighters. The full plot of the theme is not yet known, but every one of the sets contains a moonstone the monsters are trying to collect to open up the portal to the monster world and unleash doom on Earth. Or something like that. 🙄

LEGO Monster Fighters is scheduled to be released in the summer of this year with some really interesting sets and unique minifigures. Check them out below! 🙂

#9461 LEGO MONSTER FIGHTERS Swamp Monster – Small set with a swamp-boat, small swamp setup, and 2 minifigures: Swamp Monster and an explorer-looking guy named Frank Rock. 70 pieces. Price: $6.99

#9462 LEGO MONSTER FIGHTERS Mummy – Small set with a helicopter, a small carriage drawn by a glow-in-the-dark skeleton horse, and 2 minifigures: a mummy and Ann Lee, another explorer/monster fighter, who apparently like to use a cross-bow and keeps extra arrows tucked in her hair. 90 pieces. Price: $11.99

    The hurst!

  • Yatkuu February 23, 2012, 2:23 PM

Really excited about this theme, and even more by the rumored haunted manor! The hearse is a winner.

  • Sarah February 23, 2012, 10:04 PM

I’m more excited for this theme than Lord of the Rings! I can’t wait to get all of these and the Haunted House that I have confirmation from a LEGO store employee that it is part of the Monster Fighters theme. I’m also holding out hope for the zombie set that will be exclusive to the LEGO store.

    • admin February 23, 2012, 10:11 PM

Sarah, yes, there is a zombie set. I was debating if I should include it because the only thing I knew was the set-number, but no picture, no price, no details. So I decided to omit it this time until we have more info. I particularly like the cars in this theme, and gotta have those bats! 😀

      • Sarah February 23, 2012, 11:26 PM

Good point. Wait till we know more. I really like the cars, which is surprising since I haven’t liked most of the vehicles in the recent action releases. I could have lived without the Pharaoh’s Quest vehicles. But these look sweet!

I’m not sure where you found the prices, but here’s what ToysNBricks lists for prices, but they admit that they’re not sure.
        LEGO 9468 Castle – $99.99
        LEGO 9467 Ghost Train – $79.99
        LEGO 9466 Frankenstein – $49.99
        LEGO 9464 Hearse – $34.99
        LEGO 9463 Werewolf – $19.99
        LEGO 9462 Mummie – $11.99
        LEGO 9461 Swamp Monster – $6.99

I like the new bat people. Really cool.

And have you seen the white spider on the front gate of the vampire castle? I wonder if they glow-in-the-dark? Wouldn’t that be cool.

        • admin February 24, 2012, 10:44 AM

Sarah, thanks! I added the price on the Mummy set as I didn’t have that one. All the other prices are from the Toy Fair, so they are officially from LEGO. As far as Glow-in-the-dark spiders, that would be totally awesome! I love glow-in-the-dark parts! 😀

These are kinda hit and miss for me. The castle, train, and hearse are all cool looking, and the rest are just ok. I am slightly disappointed that the monsters are only slightly redesigned from their previous appearances in the Collectible minifigures line.

Although, I have learned with Lego that you have to wait for the final product to be released before you can ultimately pass judgement on it.

Although I am getting the zombie from the hearse set one way or another!

    • admin February 24, 2012, 11:05 AM

Greg, the final design for the monsters that are from the Collectible Minifigures may not be final. It is very possible that LEGO used them for the Toy Fairs as a stand-in. I have seen box-designs change just before the release, so there is a possibility that these will still be refined. 🙂

  • Kings February 24, 2012, 5:07 AM

Very nice, But these sort of themes don’t last long. Remember Pharaoh’s Quest and Alien Conquest? Everybody (Read: I) loved these and they only lasted one wave! Hopefully Lego Decide to keep these.

    • admin February 24, 2012, 11:11 AM

Kings, most LEGO themes last one or two waves. As you said; these sort of themes don’t last long, and I don’t expect this to be any different. It is only the larger, broader themes (like City, Castle, Pirates, girl-sets, etc.) and the licensed themes last longer. 🙁

  • Aidan February 24, 2012, 10:19 AM

I am very pleased with the price-per-piece on these sets. The smaller sets look like must haves!
The moonstone thing reminds me of Atlantis in that they need six to open up the portal. Sound familiar?
Other than that I am very pleased with these sets, and I can’t wait until these become available!

    • admin February 24, 2012, 11:13 AM

Aidan, yep, I was thinking of the same thing about the moonstones! Atlantis revisited! 😀

  • Quad February 24, 2012, 3:09 PM

That werewolve looks more like a bear-man, which I personally think would be cooler. 🙂

  • MATHEUS February 24, 2012, 5:44 PM

    MUITO LEGAL

  • Chris February 25, 2012, 12:24 PM

Another great series! I need to get some of these sets.

  • Traveler February 29, 2012, 4:57 PM

Oh my… I know what my son is getting for Christmas this year. And than daddy is going to play with it all day. 🙂
I am really looking forward to the release of this series.

    • admin February 29, 2012, 5:26 PM

Traveler, yes, having kids is a good excuse to keep playing! 😉

  • Tydroid March 2, 2012, 3:19 PM

Hey admin, try to get a close up on the bat-people-thingies.
My eyesight is poor even with glasses! 🙁

    • admin March 2, 2012, 5:26 PM

Tydroid, I just added a close-up of one of the bats. They are my favorites from the whole series! 😀

      • Quad March 2, 2012, 5:37 PM

Looks like Man-Bat from Lego Batman: the Video Game. 😈

  • admin March 5, 2012, 10:37 PM

UPDATE: I have posted a video review of the LEGO Monster Fighters sets, which reveals more interesting details. See here: LEGO Monster Fighters Video Reviews. Enjoy! 😀

  • legofanboy March 10, 2012, 1:41 PM

I love the new mold for the ghost shroud. I could never figure out why the unquiet spirits of the damned were smiling.

    • admin March 10, 2012, 5:44 PM

LOL! Yeah, I had that question too! These new ghosts are totally awesome! 😀

  • legofanboy March 11, 2012, 2:25 PM

If they decide not to do a second wave, here are some minifigs they’ll need to put in the collectibles series:

    * The Monster’s Mate (doesn’t need to be a copy of Elsa Lanchester)

    * Hunchback (can be either Igor or Quasimodo)

    * Jekyll and Hyde

    * Phantom of the Opera

    * Invisible Man (a transparent minifig? How can they not have thought of that)

  • Ange April 20, 2012, 5:14 PM

I’m saving up already for these sets, fantastic. The invisible man idea is so good, they really should do it.

  • nrggarmadonzx April 24, 2012, 11:01 PM
  • Matei April 25, 2012, 11:37 AM

Yes the sets are very nice but thid you seen the photoes of the boxes they have mistekes

    • admin April 25, 2012, 11:45 AM

Matei, please note that many of the box-images were preliminary when these pictures were taken. I will have an update on LEGO Monster Fighters in a couple of days. 😉

  • Matei April 28, 2012, 6:35 AM

Admin I want to ask you if you know how much the ZOMBIE set costs?

  • zane zx April 28, 2012, 8:19 PM

    • admin May 5, 2012, 8:27 AM

Thanks for noticing that! This was the preliminary info, so perhaps there has been changes. I’m planning to write another post about Monster Fighters soon, so I will confirm the info and make necessary changes. 🙂

  • ricardo May 9, 2012, 10:50 PM

by the way the zombie driver is AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWEEEEEESSSSSSSOOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • legofanboy May 26, 2012, 1:20 PM

I found pix of the zombie graveyard set:

The minifigs are a zombie bride, a zombie groom, the zombie driver (doing double duty from the Hearse set) and Jack McHammer. The set has two graves which burst open to release the zombies. Jack McHammer’s truck has a cowcatcher, side-mounted rotating hammers, and flick-fire missiles.

    • admin May 27, 2012, 9:29 AM

Yes, I have been meaning to write about this upcoming set. Maybe sometime next week. 😉
