An Eastern LEGO paradise in Hong Kong…

(Written by Legomaniac)

If you ever decide to travel to Hong Kong, you might be disappointed to find out that there are no LEGO stores in the city. However, you could find LEGO products in Toys’R’Us or local department stores. I’m a huge LEGO minifigure fan and as I don’t have much room to display LEGO sets in my home, so I find it a nuisance to have to buy whole LEGO sets in order to get the minifigures included. 😐

Inside the Hong Kong Mall

However what Hong Kong lacks in terms of LEGO stores, it has more than made up by having a mall fully dedicated to toys with 70-80% of stores selling nothing but LEGO! For me, when I discovered this LEGO paradise, I was more than excited… I was ecstatic! This is because not only do these stores sell new and hard-to-find LEGO sets, they also sell minifigures that are usually in the boxes without actually needing to buy the LEGO bricks that come with them.

Hong Kong Mall store-display - look at all that LEGO!

If you’re like me and only collect minifigures, then this is truly LEGO heaven! You can browse through different stores all under one roof and compare prices and selection. But the best thing is that I don’t have to spend tons of money to buy sets just to get the minifigures. All the staff in the stores speak English, so communication would not pose a problem, if it does you can always point. 😉

A store-display showing individual minifigures for sale

Hong Kong is one of the fastest countries in Asia to receive the newest LEGO products at a very reasonable price. I went there on April 23rd and they already had the LEGO Super Heroes Captain America’s Avenging Cycle and Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown for sale.

Another store display at the Hong Kong Mall with more LEGO!

If you’re a fan of the LEGO minifigure series and don’t like guessing what’s in each bag – and annoyed by getting duplicates – then you can buy the entire set here. I bought the whole set of series 7 and it only cost me USD$41, even cheaper than if I had bought them individually. That leaves me money that I saved from getting duplicates to buy other minifigures. 😛

My minifigure Series 7 collection from the Hong Kong Mall

So if you ever plan on travelling to Hong Kong, make sure you visit this mall. The name of the mall is “In’s Point” in the Yau Ma Tei area. Make sure you bring a calculator, a notebook, a shopping-list (with prices from your own country so you can compare prices), and lots of cash if you plan on going on a shopping spree. The fixed exchange rate of USD to HKD is $7.8, so USD$1 = HKD$7.8.

Hong Kong In's Point Mall on the map

On the down side, every time I go there, I never leave empty handed and I always buy too many things. Below is what I got on my visit to take photos of the mall. I would also like to note that I had to risk my life to take these photos as store management doesn’t allow photos (I think). 🙄

This is what I got on my visit to take photos of the mall

I hope this little tour-guide helps you out next time you are in Hong Kong looking for LEGO! If you have any questions just let me know in the comment section below. Thanks for reading my first post here! 🙂

    • admin May 22, 2012, 10:06 AM

Good eyes! Cloud City is one epic set! Interestingly it didn’t sell well in its time, but now it is considered one of the most coveted classics.:)

  • Kazashimo June 21, 2012, 6:52 PM

oh wow, I wish I knew about this place before my visit to HK last year. Will be sure to visit when I’m in HK next time!

    • admin June 22, 2012, 8:54 AM

Yeah, looks like LEGO heaven! 😀

  • Iman August 29, 2012, 3:44 AM

    Hi

Are you doing business in selling to us and deliver to our country?
I am looking for minifigures series 1 complete set.
If you do sell, I am intrerested to buy.

    Thks & Rgds
    Iman

    • admin August 29, 2012, 9:46 AM

Iman, so sorry I’m a blogger, not a seller. I would suggest you check out BrickLink or eBay for a complete set of Series 1. They are hard to find and can be expensive, but if you want to complete your collection those are the best routes to get them. Good luck! 😉

  • Ally January 8, 2013, 9:57 PM

Thanks for the post. I was just in Hong Kong. Wish I had read this before I went. Well, there is always next time. Thanks for sharing!

  • SImon March 16, 2013, 1:42 AM

How are the prices for current sets, in comparison to usual $US RRP?
Planning a trip soon, and may save up if there’s savings to be made!

  • nelly November 15, 2013, 9:06 AM

Hi Admin, any idea what time is the Lego shop at in’s point close?

    • admin November 15, 2013, 1:39 PM

Nelly, no idea. I’m in the USA. I have never been to Hong Kong. 😉

    • B4TM4N July 13, 2014, 6:45 PM

I’m not quite sure about weekdays, but it seems most shops start closing around 9:00pm – 9:30pm.

  • Dedi November 30, 2013, 3:22 PM

I went there with my wife, she has to literally drag me out from the store, only to get ourselves dinner.

    • admin November 30, 2013, 5:05 PM

Dinner is overrated. LEGO is much more fun!

  • Daniel December 15, 2013, 5:24 AM

At In’s Point do they accept credit cards or do I need to bring cash for the purchases?

    • admin December 15, 2013, 1:28 PM

Daniel, that’s a good question. I’m going to check on that see if I can find it out. But I would say most merchants would prefer cash even if they do accept credit cards. Especially small shops like these. Credit card fees are expensive, so to support small vendors it is best to offer them cash.

    • B4TM4N July 13, 2014, 6:55 PM

Most shops ask me for cash only, but I did notice a shop allow Octopus card. I didn’t check to see if others did. At least with cash you have a better chance bargaining. Some places are pretty firm on price, while a couple others moved around about 5% or so. Just remember to really shop around, prices can vary from store to store, especially if you are searching for specific figures rather than complete sets. For example, I saw a Buzz Lightyear in one shop for $115 HKD in one shop and $78 HKD in another. I also saw a TMNT Turtle Lair (79117 – new movie version) for $750 HKD in one store and $799 HKD in another. Notepad and calculator was definitely a good tip.

  • Mel May 13, 2014, 3:56 AM

Hi there.. We are in HK at the moment .. Was told there was a Legoland !!! I think we have been miss informed .. However, would like to thank you for your blog – master 7 will be happy with the mall (I hope)

  • Ernest August 29, 2014, 11:14 PM

Yeah, I go to this place a lot!!! Not only there is a wide selection of LEGO products, the prices are very cheap too, around 70-80% of the original price!

  • kuplet September 2, 2014, 9:41 PM

Looking forward to checking this place out. In HK for a few days and too bad I just saw this article just now coz I already bought a couple of sets

    • admin September 3, 2014, 11:10 AM

Nice! I hope you have a great trip! Let us know if you found anything interesting! 🙂

  • Jick September 11, 2014, 9:19 PM

Most of the stores inside are closed in the morning until afternoon, they usually open at around 4:30 – 9pm. I guess most of the store owners have work during weekdays and they just leave a note there to call them if you want to order (probably they can deliver just like in E-bay) I tried to go there on a weekday and weekend, it’s disappointing coz’ you can see the display but the stores are closed and you cannot buy, I need to wait around 5pm. It’s worth the wait though! 🙂

    • admin September 14, 2014, 9:07 PM

Jick, that’s very helpful information. Thanks for sharing!

  • Sally November 10, 2014, 8:36 PM

    Hi,

I have been to In’s point last year and bought a minecraft lego for my son. This December, I will be visting HK again with a bigger missions. My nephews would like to have the minecraft lego too. Are you able to check if they have stock for the following and do you have the shop name or contact?
The village, The Nether, The End, The Forest

  • Whoarnat February 1, 2015, 9:31 PM

Went there a while back, was phenomenal. Got a ton of current and discontinued Star Wars sets, including the original AT-ST which I’ve never seen anywhere else. A lot of older sets are sold just in the lego numbered bags and they give a copy of the manual. Not sure if this is legit but the sets were complete and all worked fine. Passing through HK again next week and staying the night only to go the there again.

    • admin February 2, 2015, 11:31 AM

Sounds like you had a great experience! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  • Pat April 6, 2015, 4:44 AM

I been there but there are also a lot of fake “LEGO” from China…look for the lego logos on box…the logo spell different…beware! The fakes sells quite cheap…mostly 30% off.
btw, I have found and there is a lego monobrand store chain in hong kong call brickstime lego: http://www.brickstime.com. They have the full lines there including architecture and ideas and there is lego engraving services. I got some engraved key chains for my kids in chinese and english…pretty cool.

    • admin April 6, 2015, 9:25 AM

Pat, nice! Thanks for sharing that! 🙂

  • Vich April 14, 2015, 11:34 AM

I need Lego Hobbit 79018 . If you have please confirm me and tel number or address. I stay 2 night in hong kong.

    • admin April 14, 2015, 1:42 PM

Vich, this is just a review article about the place. You need to contact them directly if you have any questions or requests.

  • montormabur April 28, 2015, 2:14 AM

hello, just curious, is it true that they only accept cash?

    • admin April 28, 2015, 8:39 AM

Most places like this only accept cash, so that would make sense.

  • Mana October 19, 2015, 12:38 PM

Hi, great article thank you! Did you bargain or was it just pay the sticker price? Thank you!

  • Jordan September 21, 2016, 10:42 PM

Do you know if you can trade your own minifigures or sets there? Because I have some of the rarer series 1-5 minifigures which I think can get a good deal.

    • admin September 21, 2016, 10:50 PM

Hm… I’m not sure, however since these are independent shops, it might be worth talking with the store owners to see if they would be interested to trade. 🙂

  • Joa May 19, 2017, 11:38 AM

    This place still around?
They sell Lepin, Decool and other knock offs as well or just the real deal?

    • admin May 19, 2017, 11:47 AM

As far as I know, yes, it’s still around. I’m not sure if they sell other brands, but I assume they would if there is a market for them.

  • Joa May 19, 2017, 9:12 PM

Do you know when they open in weekends?

    • admin May 19, 2017, 9:24 PM

Joa, no, sorry, I don’t. I’m in the US.

      • Joa May 19, 2017, 9:59 PM

Ok, thanks!! Will go there in the afternoon. Will try the Toy Street (Tai Yuen) first.

        • admin May 19, 2017, 10:04 PM

Awesome! Let us know how you like it and what you find. 🙂

  • Joa May 20, 2017, 11:16 AM

It was still in operation. Being a Lego fan reborn (have a 4 year old son) I can not tell too much as I have read up on it all (yet). For sure there was a lot of Lego. Bought a few Lego Technic at good price compared to other shops I have seen in HK. A lot of discontinued sets could be found but I can not tell if the prices were good. Definitely worth a visit and I am glad I found this post.
Went to Temple street right after. The had a few places with Lepin, Decool and Lele knock offs. Must say I am tempted to get a few sets that are discontinued as originals and with prices on eBay I would never dream to pay.

    • admin May 20, 2017, 11:27 AM

Joa, thanks for the update. Sounds like you had a good time! You can use the Brickset database to see what the original prices were on each set. That usually helps to see if the price sellers are asking for is reasonable. Another quick way to check the price is to calculate the price/piece ratio. In general, LEGO sets are priced at 10 cents a piece (so a 1,000 piece set should be around $100). If the price is better, you know you are getting a good deal, if not, you may want to pass. You should be able to come up with the correct ratio for your currency.

If you are considering knock-offs, Lepin has the best quality. Not exactly like LEGO, but fairly close. The others are pretty much garbage. Also, if you find any, check out Oxford. It is a very high quality brand from South Korea, compatible with LEGO, and is not a knock-off, as they make their own sets and themes. They have some really beautiful sets, especially in the history/fantasy genre.

  • Zully July 5, 2017, 12:33 PM

Hey im looking for lego technic parts & power function motor. can anyone recommend me where is the best place to find those items?

    • admin July 5, 2017, 2:43 PM

Are you talking about getting them in general? Or in Hong Kong?

  • Raymond August 12, 2017, 8:50 PM

Does anybody know that there are lego books for sell to teach how to build other models (other than those in the official instruction manuals) for lego classic bricks (e.g. classic bricks 10698)? Thank you.

  • cherry December 23, 2017, 6:20 AM

any specific shop to buy lego in in’s point? scared to get immitate one 🙁

    • admin December 23, 2017, 11:34 AM

Cherry, it’s a tough one, as the rise of clone-brands is everywhere. I would say though, that so far no cloner dared to put the LEGO logo on their bricks, so if you want genuine LEGO, make sure you check for the logos on the pieces. This is especially important for minifigs, as selling fake versions of genuine minifigures is a huge business. So check for the LEGO logo on everything you buy.

  • Lena January 4, 2018, 6:16 AM

    hi,

just want to know are they using USD for all transaction i/o HKD?

    • admin January 4, 2018, 9:48 AM

Lena, I’m not sure as I’m in the US, but dollars are accepted pretty much anywhere in the world. You can also convert money at banks, hotels, and many other locations.
