LEGO Lord of the Rings contest!

“My dear Bagginses and Boffins, Tooks and Brandybucks, Grubbs, Chubbs, Hornblowers, Bolgers, Bracegirdles and Proudfoots…” (quote by Bilbo) there is an exciting LEGO Lord of the Rings contest you may want to participate in! The contest was announced in the latest LEGO Club Magazine, but if you are not subscribed you likely missed the announcement. Here are the details of the LEGO Lord of the Rings Building Challenge:

Be part of the greatest fantasy movie-series! Build your favorite scene from any of the three The Lord of the Rings movies – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King , using pieces from your LEGO collection and you might be a winner!

HOW TO ENTER THE LEGO CONTEST: Build a model of your favorite scene from any of the three Lord of the Rings movies using pieces from your LEGO collection (only LEGO elements can be used, no custom items, or non-LEGO parts). Take a color photo of your LEGO model (only color photos will be accepted in JPG, PNG, or PDF file format), and upload it here: Enter the LEGO Lord of the Rings Contest

LEGO CONTEST PRIZES: The Grand Prize winner will win a trip for a family of 4 to Warner Brothers Studios and LEGOLAND California! 10 First Prize winners will win the LEGO The Lord of the Rings full assortment! 35 runner-ups will win an exclusive MONDO LEGO Lord of the Rings poster!

LEGO CONTEST DEADLINE: The LEGO Lord of the Rings Building Challenge began at 09:00:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on July 1st 2012 and ends at 11:59:59 PM EDT on August 15th, 2012.

➡ LEGO CONTEST RULES: The LEGO Lord of the Rings Building Challenge is only open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are five years of age or older at the time of registration. The LEGO creation should (obviously) be built by you. Enter as many times as you wish with different creations, but only one entry per person will be eligible to win a prize. One person cannot win more than one prize. You can read all other rules at the following link by clicking on the ENTER button. Please read carefully: LEGO Lord of the Rings Contest Rules

Personally, I don’t care for the Grand Prize, but the First Prize looks really-really sweet! An entire collection of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets? I will take that any day! The Runner Up Prize is okay too, I guess, if you are into MONDO posters. Also, according to the rules, I don’t see any reason why you can’t enter this contest as an older teen or an adult. The rules only say you have to be over 5-years-old. 🙄

So what do you think of the LEGO Lord of the Rings contest? Are you planning to enter? Or have you entered already? And which prize are you hoping for? Share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

    this looks fun!

  • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 10:23 AM

So… the more times you enter the better chance you have of winning?

    • admin July 29, 2012, 10:41 AM

Nick, yeah, I read through the rules pretty carefully and that’s what it appears to be. My idea would be to enter several small, but clever and beautiful vignettes that are positioned and photographed well. Maybe like 5-10, and increase your chances of winning. 😉

      • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 1:31 PM

        have you entered yet?

        • admin July 29, 2012, 1:38 PM

Nick, I was actually planning to work on my entry this weekend. However due to the ongoing server issues everything was put back on hold. I actually haven’t eaten or rested properly since the 25th. 🙁

          • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 1:39 PM

            Sorry to hear that. 🙁

            • admin July 29, 2012, 1:58 PM

Yeah, me too. I love running a website, writing articles, interacting with you guys, but the technical stuff drives me nuts. Right now our server is saying that our posts are too popular and we have too many comment emails. They have given me the choice of either disabling the subscribing to comments feature or updating to a server that costs hundreds of $$$ a month. I rather not do the first so you guys can subscribe to threads you are interested in, and I can’t afford the second. Anyway, I will figure out something… 🙁

              • YTjedi July 29, 2012, 2:52 PM

I there maybe a setting where the responses to the comments being followed get sent in batches? So maybe you get one mail at the end of the day that has all of the comments on the thread you are following rather than as it happens. That should cut down on the comment emails, especially for articles that end up being really popular.

                • admin July 29, 2012, 3:12 PM

YTjedi, yeah, that’s what the server ugys suggested too. Unfortunately the plugin I’m using right now for the subscribe to comments feature doesn’t have that option. I emailed the developer of the plugin and hopefully he will get back to me with some way to do that. If not, I will try to look at some other options. Thanks for the suggestion! 😉

                  • legodude19 July 29, 2012, 4:15 PM

Maybe you ought to try a a small fundraiser. 🙂
Or expand the site with some sort of paid subscription. 🙂 I dunno how that would work but I’m sure with work it could happen. 🙂

                    • admin July 29, 2012, 4:37 PM

The brainstorming is appreciated! Thanks for the ideas! 😉

I don’t think we really need a larger server at this point. That’s what they want to sell me, of course, but our traffic is somewhere between 7,000-10,000 visits a day, which is not earth (or server) shattering yet. It is the emails that are an issue right now. I may just take off that plugin for now until I find a better solution.

And if you guys like TBB, you can always buy your LEGO through our links in the right-hand side-bar and our posts. We have an affiliation with both LEGO and Amazon, and a few other effiliates as well. We get a small percentage (3%) of your purchase if you buy something through our links. (BTW, in case of Amazon, you can buy anything once you followed our link. Not just LEGO.) I think that is the best wy to contribute as it is a win-win. It doesn’t cost you any more then what you would be spending already, you get what you wanted, and we can pay our server and other expenses. 🙂

With the economy being so bad everywhere, I certainly don’t want to burden you guys with a paid site. I know how it feels for companies and governments constantly pulling money out of your pocket. So I’m planning to keep TBB free for all to enjoy. 😀

                    • gid617 July 30, 2012, 8:30 AM

I didn’t know that you just had to follow the links. I’ll try that next time I (we) order something! 😉

          • gid617 July 30, 2012, 8:40 AM

Do you enter most (or some) of the EuroBricks contests?

            • admin July 30, 2012, 9:14 AM

The EuroBricks contests are awesome! They don’t have as many as they used to last year, but they are totally worth going for. You get the fun, the exposure, the prestige, and maybe some cool prizes too! 😉

I almost always have the intention to enter, but sadly I often don’t have the time. Hopefully one day I will have more free time when I can enter contests more often. I really like the fun of it! 🙂

              • gid617 July 30, 2012, 10:58 AM

How many did they have last yr? I’ve already counted 1o (that is counting all the catagories). . . 😉 And I entered 3 so far 😉

                • admin July 30, 2012, 11:12 AM

I don’t remember, but they had at least one every month. Another LEGO site that has great contests is Toys N Bricks. There is nothing going on right now, but when they do, the contests are fun, and the prizes are very generous. 😉

  • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) July 29, 2012, 2:03 PM

i dont like lord of the rings so im not planning on entering. even if i wanted to i only have one ninjago set lol.

    • gid617 July 30, 2012, 10:59 AM

I don’t particularly lilke LOTR either, but I’ll take a few free LEGO sets any day! 😉

  • Loyd Master of all the elements July 29, 2012, 2:07 PM

I don’t need to win this because my aunt has year round passes

  • nace10 (Noah M.) July 29, 2012, 2:10 PM

I know this is off subject but, does anybody know if they are making LEGO Zelda? I figured out how to advance in Ocarina Of Time (Wich was once shown in the book of world records as the most high rated game ever), so i’m going crazy for LEGO Zelda!

    • YTjedi July 29, 2012, 2:56 PM

The cuusoo project that reached 10,000 votes awhile ago is currently in review. Hopefully we’ll find out soon if it will get made.

Just asked a question on your site about your contest!

    • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 3:51 PM

I know who it is!!! P.S. to join your website, is it just the same as this site?

      • nace10 (Noah M.) July 29, 2012, 8:03 PM

        Yes.

        • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 8:53 PM

So, I tryed to answer the question, I typed in my comment, and it said: Please enter comment. what now????

          • admin July 29, 2012, 9:00 PM

Looks like everyone is having website problems! 😕

          • nace10 (Noah M.) July 29, 2012, 9:08 PM

            ???

            • legolotr (Nick) July 29, 2012, 9:40 PM

I figured out it was not a problem with the website, it was a problem with my brain.

              • nace10 (Noah M.) July 30, 2012, 6:51 PM

No it was that your comment was not modded.
                It’s in now!

                • legolotr (Nick) July 30, 2012, 7:42 PM

No, it was that I was typing my comment in the part where you are supposed to type the website, then I realized what went wrong.

  • Tim July 29, 2012, 3:52 PM

I would love to win the LOTR sets! Looking at the current entries, it should not be difficult. Of course there is still time left and now I guess many of you guys will enter too, which will make it tough! 😀

    • admin July 29, 2012, 3:56 PM

Yeah, I guess by writing this post I just made it more difficult for everyone. Anyway, if one of our readers wins, I will be more than happy! 😀

      • gid617 July 30, 2012, 8:35 AM

Thanks fror wrigting it anyways; I do get the magazine, but always sevarl weeks late (it goes from LEGO to my Grandpa, and then from my Grandpa all the way down here – when ever he gets around to sending it). So now I have some time! (Usually I’m in a big rush). Do you know if LEGO is planning on doing some actual judging? I kind of think that I’d actually have a better chance that way. . . 😉

        • admin July 30, 2012, 9:11 AM

Geneva, if I remember correctly under the rules it said that the entries will be judged by a panel of LEGO employees. 😉

          • gid617 July 30, 2012, 10:58 AM

            OK, thanks 🙂

          • josh11p September 4, 2012, 5:59 PM

Oh, yeah! An instant winner! 😀

      • gid617 July 30, 2012, 8:37 AM

Do we really waht him to enter then?. . . 😕 😉

        • legolotr (Nick) July 30, 2012, 9:59 AM

Hello fellow builders. Yes I entered my Orthanc Tower into the contest.
You can see pictures @ http://www.mocpages.com search for Orthanc. It’s the one I am standing next to. It was a un build. 11 ft tall. Built in 5 sections so I can transport it.

  • Scott August 27, 2012, 10:34 PM

We appreciate your blog. Do you have any idea when the winners of the LEGO LOTR contest will be announced? The rules page has been taken down and my son is asking about it everyday.

    • admin August 27, 2012, 10:53 PM

Scott, go here: https://www.lego.com/en-us/life and type in the club-code: GOLLUM. All the rules will be there as a PDF. 😉

On the second page under point 4, it says that evaluation of all entries will be concluded by the 31st of August. They will contact the owners of winning entries at that time. There are some legalities involved as many of the contestants are minors so it may take a bit of time. In point 9 it says that you can ask for a winners list after the judging has been concluded. But if you guys are the winners I’m sure LEGO will contact you before that. Good luck! 🙂
