Letters to LEGO – what would you write?

Dear LEGO - Letter to LEGOIf you would write a letter to LEGO, what would you say? Would it be a letter of appreciation about a new LEGO set you are particularly impressed with? Or a concern or complaint about something you don’t like? Or perhaps an idea you want to share with LEGO designers, hoping they will implement it? 🙂

LEGO actually does receive lots of letters from fans. And LEGO is very good at responding to them too as we have seen in this story: LEGO Makes a Fan’s Wish Come True. Below are a few fun letters that kids wrote to LEGO…

Letters to LEGO 1 Letters to LEGO 2 Letters to LEGO 3 Letters to LEGO 4

I have written a letter to LEGO myself when a few years back I got really concerned about the declining quality of LEGO elements. At that time some LEGO bricks developed cracks as soon as you attached them the first time – right out of the box. I got a nice letter back that they are looking into the issue. Looks like they did as my more recent LEGO sets are okay! 😀

Write or Call LEGO

What about you? Have you ever written a letter to LEGO? What did you write about? Did you get a response back? Or if you haven’t written to LEGO before what would you write? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below. If you like, you can start out by “Dear LEGO…” 😉

First comment! Anyway, these is a lovely post! I like the lord of the rings letter, it kept me smiling for the rest of the day!

  • Micho January 24, 2013, 11:29 AM

Well I can honestly ssay that I have not written any letters to LEGO.

On a different note… The UK Toy Fair was held and there were lots of new sets unveiled… For us old Castle Fans here’s some info… http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=5562 … Looks like we’re NOT getting a Dwarve’s Mine.
At the bottom of the article there are links to more set descriptions for 2013.
    Unfortunately photography was not allowed

    • admin January 24, 2013, 11:54 AM

Micho, yeah, I’m planning to write about the summers sets tomorrow. I have been out of town so I’m just catching up on all the awesome new myself. 🙂

      • Micho January 24, 2013, 12:01 PM

Nice… can’t wait for the article… gonna hit a LEGO store tomorrow in PHX, some CMFs are on my list… going for 5 mermaids, 5 knights, 3 Cyclops, 3 maid Marions, 2 chicken suit guys and 2 actresses

          wanna make some bets?
          😉

          • lego chronicler January 24, 2013, 7:18 PM

My friends and I always bet on what we will get when we buy from the minifig series

        • admin January 24, 2013, 8:59 PM

Lucky you! Still nothing in my area. Interestingly, a lot of people say they can’t find the current series anywhere – not even LEGO store, only the online LEGO shop. Unfortunately there is no way to choose those though. 🙁

          • Dr. Inferno January 24, 2013, 9:01 PM

I can’t find ANYTHING ANYWHERE….i guess all the stores are tired of not selling as many as they want…

            • lego chronicler January 30, 2013, 8:53 PM

              toys are us?

  • Strider January 24, 2013, 11:32 AM

I see what you mean about the bricks. My MMV had some bad blue ones and it was probably made a few years back.

  • Strider January 24, 2013, 11:34 AM

Admin why are you in the corner of one of.the letters? Did the person who wrote it just put the Demolition Dummy in their?

    • admin January 24, 2013, 11:55 AM

LOL! Yeah, that’s just the generic demolition dummy, not me. 😉

  • Ninjoey January 24, 2013, 11:38 AM

i already sent a letter last year complaining about the price of LEGO.
    the results: shattering
the chance of me trying again: 3%
    they just won’t listen!

    • admin January 24, 2013, 11:57 AM

I just read an interesting article about the price of LEGO. According to the author prices have in fact been coming down through the years if you consider inflation and all. The author has done extensive research, provides charts, etc. Very interesting. You can read it here: http://therealityprose.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/what_happened_with_lego/

      • Micho January 24, 2013, 12:13 PM

        WOW!!! What a well-researched article… just wow!!!

        • admin January 24, 2013, 8:57 PM

          Yeah, that’s what I thought too! 😀

    • Legoman640 January 24, 2013, 6:36 PM

Ninjoey,I must agree with you on that issue. I’m not paying $20 dollars for a small LEGO City set. Besides, most of them are just firemen, miners, and police. I’m planning on making a real lego city. I can’t seem to find any Lego sets like. I may send a letter on this topic. Lego has to do something about this. If they don’t do anything about this soon I might go into my dark ages. 🙁

      • Håkan January 25, 2013, 7:08 AM

The modulars look good, but they are expensive.

Complaint about the price, well, yeah, I’d complain, too, but what could they respond?

  • Jacob January 24, 2013, 1:07 PM

Most of my issues are the same things I always rant about (collectible minifigures being unevenly distributed (especially now with a rumored “1 per box figure”), making comic-con/ toy fair exclusive figures with no intention of releasing them to the public despite not making any sense from a consumer or profit making standpoint for LEGO, re-releasing an AT-TE and a Republic dropship for a third time without any obvious signs of ever releasing any of the arena creatures from SW Ep.II, etc). Unfortunately, I think I take most of the stuff LEGO does right for granted.

  • Mwhitt80 January 24, 2013, 2:15 PM

The only time I’ve ever written lego was when I couldn’t find a sticker set in my Emerald Night Train set. The service guys were awesome; they apologized and shipped me the stickers. No questions or anything. So no complaints here.

  • Me-Myself-and-I January 24, 2013, 2:28 PM

Is there an email you can use to contact LEGO? I’m not planning to do it, but I’m just wondering.

  • Glenn January 24, 2013, 5:37 PM

I haven’t really sat down and written a letter to LEGO, but I have on several occasions submitted a request for missing parts. Replacement parts arrive shortly thereafter.

One thing I might write to them to complain about is COLOR consistency.
In a recent set, even some black pieces were clearly different, though it looked more like a mold issue. some parts were super shiny, others looked like the mold was in dire need of maintenance. (oh, now I recall: set 10233, Twilight Express)

    • admin January 24, 2013, 8:57 PM

Glenn, yeah, the color inconsistency has been going on every since LEGO decided to die their own colors, instead of buying colored pellets. This is one of the biggest issues with current LEGO sets, and it doesn’t seem like LEGO is going to fix it anytime soon. Unfortunately. 🙁

      • Andy at www.smallplasticbricks.com January 24, 2013, 11:21 PM

I’ve never really noticed a color difference or cracked pieces. I must have good luck or bad eyes…lol. I like the old, faded parts in my buildings though.

        • Gabriel January 28, 2013, 3:58 PM

For me it’s most noticeable in my LEGO Creator jet set: the right angle plates are all a little darker yellow than the left angle plates, resulting in half the jet looking a different color! But I don’t mind much.

  • Melbuscus January 24, 2013, 5:59 PM

If I were ever to write a letter to Lego again I would ask them to continue the pokemon Lego sets.(or were they mega blocks…….?)

    • Jacob January 24, 2013, 8:36 PM

LEGO has yet to have any license with Nintendo on making sets with their properties, the closest being the Legend of Zelda Cussoo project which got 10,000 votes, but LEGO rejected because of the large number of new molds it required.

      • Gabriel January 28, 2013, 4:00 PM

Bummer! It would be sweet to have Megaman constraction sets.

  • lego chronicler January 24, 2013, 7:16 PM

I would like to test star wars LEGO sets 😀 BTW I like the last letter, I hadn’t even thought of that!

  • legostuff71 January 24, 2013, 8:19 PM

Heads , up! guys, sometimes when you ask LEGO to send a missing/broken part from a set . They sometimes ask for the box number ( on top of the ubc bars). that happend to me a couple times. I don’t know why . but they did.

  • ninjanut January 24, 2013, 10:20 PM

I am going to write to lego about I don’t know yet

    • Ninjoey January 24, 2013, 10:38 PM

ask them for a life-long supply of bricks! 😀 just kidding

  • Andy at www.smallplasticbricks.com January 24, 2013, 11:19 PM

I’ve written to Lego many times. I was happy when they finally came out with white, solid color 4×5 doors, but they were not on their site to buy. They let me call them and make a special order for “replacement parts”, and I ordered 100 of them! It was cheaper than Bricklink. They are a great company. I also spoke with their “community” guy, Kevin Hinkle, about the white printing that looks pink when printed on red – he said they are looking into it.

    • admin January 25, 2013, 10:05 AM

Andy, good to hear they are looking in to the white on color printing issue. Nice they let you get those doors! Writing to LEOG doesn’t have to be about complaints, it could also be about letting them know we are happy with their service and they are doing a good job. Everybody likes to hear that once in a while. 🙂

  • Lloyd Zx January 25, 2013, 8:01 AM

I know what you mean about breaking pieces. From 2008-2010 bionicles were really cruddy. I stopped buying them, even though I had tons of them. The new hand molds that began at that time would simply break when you put them on.

  • Frank January 25, 2013, 8:30 AM

    The Hobbits!
    They’re wearing shoes!

  • Scruffy Looking Dad January 25, 2013, 10:57 AM

Earlier this month I had actually written a letter to LEGO as a thank you for reconnecting me back with LEGO and for bringing such joy and amusement to my son’s life. Included with the letter was a photo of me playing with LEGO when I was 12 and a more recent photo of my son playing with his LEGO Duplo.

That’s a wonderful letter and story! Thanks for sharing! Your son is absolutely adorable! Where did he get those curls? 🙂

  • zane zx January 27, 2013, 1:59 PM

I like lego, but im a bit shy and sending a letter about hobbit SHOES? Wow,I would never do that! 🙂

  • Eric at a LEGO a Day January 30, 2013, 10:34 AM

What people need to keep in mind is the TLG is a company, and LEGO is a toy. As a company, TLG has to make a profit. If they don’t, everyone will suffer. Employees will lose jobs, and we will see decreased quality. For these reasons, I don’t have a problem with LEGO prices. They are simply charging what the market will bear.

That being said, I only buy LEGO when it’s on sale. As I stated, LEGO is a toy, and thus a luxury good. Nothing more, and nothing less. I don’t “need” it, but will buy it when the price is right for me.

I have noticed color variations across bricks, but this doesn’t bother me. It breaks up the uniformity in my creations, and give my creations depth.

I have contacted LEGO a few times, but only for replacement parts. I’ve always gotten what I was missing.

TLG is an awesome company as far as I’m concerned.

Hi Lego I want to know if I can have a hotdog Lego guy. I live on Ashley road in Illinois. By the way you guys are awesome! I am a huge fan. I want to know if you can make a new Lego set. My idea is a set from the new Star Wars movie. Can you also make a Lego semi set with a cattle or hoper trailer?

    • admin December 28, 2015, 10:50 AM

Blake, the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets came out a few months ago, and more are coming in January. Make sure you check the selection. 😉

I’ve been read narnia lately and I reckon LEGO Narnia sets would be a big hit. I know I would some! I especially think you should make a Dawn Treader set and a Cair Paravel set. I’m a big fan of LEGO and Narnia

Clay, you can suggest this on LEGO Ideas. If ten thousand people agree with your project, LEGO will consider making it into an official LEGO set. 🙂

  • Ian Kwon September 30, 2021, 10:34 PM

Hi lego designers. I am writing a very sad letter. My name is Ian. I’m only 7 years old and I want to collect all lego technic from 2015 – 2021. But I can’t because almost all of them are retired. When I grow up I will go to your design place. On that time, please listen my wish. I will still give you 20 dollars.

I was building the home alone lego set, but found out that it has a flaw. You know in the scene of home alone, where Kevin Macalister rides his sled down the stairs and out the door? Well, when you put the sled with Kevin on it to make it work (there is a button outside the building that you push, which releases the slide), Kevin pops off the sled. Many may think that im just complaining for no reason, but I payed over 300$ CAD for it, and I dont want it wasted on a flaw.
