2013 LEGO sets & minifigures videos

in Other News & Updates

We have talked about the 2013 LEGO sets coming up later this year extensively, but I also wanted to share with you a few videos from Spieletest.at to give you an even better idea of what’s coming. Spieletest.at is one of my favorite channels on YouTube as they always have excellent coverage of the toy fairs, and this year is no exception. Just take a look! :D

2013 LEGO Sets - Nurnberg Toy Fair

 2013 LEGO STAR WARS SETS & MINIFIGS: there is a nice assortment of sets and a full array of minifigures in this theme. I have been very impressed with the LEGO Star Wars minifigures in the past couple of years and LEGO is not disappointing this year either.

 2013 LEGO MARVEL & DC SUPER HEROES SETS & MINIFIGS: the sets are on the smallish side in this wave, however the minifigs are just excellent. And there are a lot of them! Any LEGO Super Hero collector should be in ecstasy- at least that’s what I think!

 2013 LEGO LORD OF THE RINGS SETS & MINIFIGS: to me this is the most exciting collection this year. A lot of fans are complaining that the Lord of the Rings sets in this wave are too small, but I’m quite happy with them. Small means more affordable so I can buy a greater variety. And one can always buy multiplies of each set to expand a scene (like the one with the Black Gate). The minifigures continue to be absolutely fantastic – I mean really; LEGO is going out of its way to make Lord of the Rings fans happy.

 2013 LEGO CASTLE SETS & MINIFIGS: this video actually only shows the minifigures in the now LEGO Castle line, but you can look up the previous discussions for the sets themselves in the LEGO Castle section.

 2013 LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA SETS & MINIFIGS: here again the focus is on the minifigures, but we discussed the sets already anyway. If you missed them check out the LEGO Legends of Chima section.

 2013 LEGO FRIENDS SETS & MINIFIGS: more sweet sets for girls! The LEGO Friends sets have been a huge success since their launch, and looks like LEGO is still full of ideas for interesting and innovative sets to build up Hearlake City. I particularly like the school in this wave, and we finally get some boys included! :P

So what do you think? How do you like the upcoming LEGO sets, and especially the minifigures? Are you planning to collect them? Which ones? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! ;)

The summer definitely made up for the Winter releases, the only thing I really loved about the winter was TMNT, Spider Cycle Chase, and Arctic Batman, but now they are almost last in my list. Let’s see, this is what I am looking to get:
All Castle sets
2 Councils of Elrond
Iron Man Malibu Mansion
…In that order of priority.

I forgot to mention the Pirate Ship ambush, but I am waiting on that to be clearanced and I’m planning on converting it into Sao Feng’s pirate ship from POTC.

I don’t really like the new santa jango. Too many colours, but maybe it would look good with one of those red mandalorian helmets from the darth maul set

Reply

Fire Ninja Jedi February 19, 2013 at 2:37 PM

Yeah, I agree, the blue Jango head does not match at all! Good point about the other Madolorian helmets though!

Yeah, I was thinking of that too. When I first saw images I was hoping that this is a proto and LEGO will change the printing on the helmet to something like red and orange – or something compatible with the Santa-suit. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case. :?

I would love to see the witch king of angmar in minfigure form as well, maybe with a fell beast. But I’m pretty sure you are referring to the mouth of sauron being realeased.

Reply

admin February 20, 2013 at 10:21 AM

Yes, it is the Mouth of Sauron that is being released in this next wave. I also heard rumors that the Witch King and a Fell Beast will come in the wave after this. ;)

pythor953 February 20, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Really??? Wow thats a rumour that I really hope is true :) I never understood the reasoning for a mouth of sauron minifigure anyways. I mean it isn’t even in the trilogy, it’s in a deleted scene. It isn’t something I’ve seen lego try before.

The Mouth of Sauron is actually in the extended version of the movie, not in a deleted scene. Most likely most LOTR fans would have the extended version, so he is not entirely out of place. I do agree though that the Witch King and the Fell Beasts are a lot more prominent then the Mouth of Sauron, who only has like a 5 minute role in the whole movie.

Pythor953 February 21, 2013 at 7:47 AM

Extended version? I had no idea there even was one. I think I should definetly try and see that.

Reply

admin February 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Yeah, you should definitely watch it. I HIGHLY recommend the extended version. There is just so much more goodness there! :D

I couldn’t watch the Superhero clip for some reason…

Hm… it was working yesterday… I’m not sure why they set it to private today. I will monitor it in the next couple of days and see if they un-private it. :?

Håkan February 20, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Yeah, it’s odd…

I read somewhere that the Super Hero sets and minifigs featured in the video are actually under some kind of no picutres/no video embargo, so perhaps LEGO asked that the video be taken down. At least for the time being…

Håkan February 21, 2013 at 7:57 AM

Oh well, thanks for the info.

hey anyone know where i can get the rotating display for the minifigure. AWESOME IDEA!!!

Reply

admin June 8, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Ian, those are LEGO’s own displays. I’m not sure if you can buy them anywhere, but I don’t think they should be that hard to make. Just a circular platform with a little motor to go around… doesn’t seem difficult. :)
