Summer 2013 LEGO Legends of Chima

by admin on February 8, 2013

in LEGO Legends of Chima

We have discussed the 2013 LEGO sets coming this summer and fall (see: Summer & Fall 2013 LEGO Sets), and it was obvious that LEGO’s focus this year is to push the LEGO Legends of Chima theme as much as possible, so there will be tons of Chima sets coming this year. (For already released LEGO Legends of Chima sets check the Online LEGO Shop.)

LEGO Legends of Chima Ultrabuilds

At the London Toy Fair pictures were not allowed, so we could only get set names and some details, however at the recent German Toy Fair taking pictures and videos was welcome. Meiko, the project manager of the Chima Wiki took some pictures and shared them with us. But first let’s take a look at the upcoming LEGO Legends of Chima sets (for details and prices check out: Summer & Fall 2013 LEGO Sets).

As you can see there are plenty of Legends of Chima sets coming throughout the rest of the year. Below is a picture of the LEGO Legends of Chima display at the German Toy Fair. (Click image for larger view.)

The main attraction is of course the Gorilla mech from the #70008 LEGO Legends of Chima Gorzan’s Gorilla Striker. And yes, you see that right; the mech is loaded with bananas as ammunition.

LEGO Legends of Chima

Another main feature of the summer Chima sets is the gorillas and other new characters, so let’s take a look at those guys. The LEGO Legends of Chima gorillas are Gardo, Gorzan, Grizzam, and G’Loona with short legs. (Click image for larger view.)

The other new LEGO Legends of Chima characters are Furty the fox (my favorite Chima minifigure so far!), Skinnet the skunk, and a new female wolf named Windra. Furty and Skinnet come with tails! 😀

So that’s what we have for now… what do you think? How do you like the upcoming LEGO Legends of Chima sets? And what about the minifigures and the ultrabuilds? Which one is your favorite character so far? Share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

I have to admit, these new sets are pretty interesting. I’ll probably get one or two of them just for the pieces and the minifigures.

I liked how in the first wave you could get all the characters from the normal sets. It looks like i’lk have to buy some speedorz to get all the new guys.

Wizard February 8, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Furty the fox looks nice. Might have to get that one and maybe some of the gorillas.

i am getting skinnet!!!!!!!

gid617 February 8, 2013 at 10:52 AM

I agree, Furty is probably my favorite character so far as well! The gorrilas do look a bit odd… Gorzan especially is better in the show. I don’t think I’ll be getting too much Chima, but some of the new stuff is neat!

percy jackson February 8, 2013 at 12:20 PM

yeah gid617 the gorrilas do look odd. i thought it was just me that thought it looked werid.

I may just get these sets for the pieces and minifigures. I like the gorilla tribe and the Gorilla Mech so I might be getting that.

Fire Ninja Jedi February 8, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Wow, that is a lot of stuff! I hope LEGO doesn’t want this theme to be a collector theme because that is a LOT of sets. I don’t think even Ninjago had THAT many.

They revived Fabuland!

Reply

Håkan February 8, 2013 at 12:07 PM

Jokes aside, it looks as if the tails are attached by the neck.

Reply

admin February 9, 2013 at 1:31 PM

Yes, the tails are attached to the neck with a bracket. The same way the Lizard Guy’s tail is attached from the Collectible Minifigure series.

Reply

admin February 9, 2013 at 1:30 PM

Yep, Fabuland all grown up and fully armed! 😉

Reply

Fabuland is a LEGO theme from the 1980s with animal characters. See the sets here: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=153

Jacob February 8, 2013 at 1:11 PM

Personally I am slightly let down with the gorillas. It’s not they are bad on their own, but I was hoping to use them for possible Planet of the Apes stuff, or even just with more variety in “normal” gorillas. The tribal painting on most of their faces, while does make it more detailed, means that they will not work great for what I was hoping to use it for.

Reply

Jacob February 8, 2013 at 1:13 PM

Also, a video of the action figures:

One thing that I noticed was that they seemed to change the croc from having lime green to olive green. I’m not too certain about the torso printing, but I will pick up some for parts not matter what.

Thanks for the link! It’s nice to see them from several angles. I think Cragger and Laval are must-haves. After that, I think I like Razar because of the purple elements.

Chima looks like it is quaranteed to meet its target audience’s expectations with these new figures. However they aren’t the kind of thing I’ll be getting. I’m hoping for pictures of those geonosis star wars sets. Hopefully they’ll live up to MY expectations.

I have made a fan character! Ploman, the Blue Knight! Chima citizen by day, hero by night, he is the caped crusader! By the way, he has a secret. Not spoiling anything.

Reply

Zubashi February 12, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Now for my ideas for a story.
Ninjago: After defeating the Overlord, they get prepared for the next fight with a new villain. The ninja, Dareth, Misako, Garmadon and Wu are training, while Dr. Julien and Nya are working on some more mechs. The Samurai Mech is now rebuilt, as is the Golden Mech. Dr. Julien can now fight with his mech. It’s like the Fire Mech, but bigger and with giant rocket fists. But the last thing is fro The Falcon. They finished building a fighting body for it. The Falcon can fight. He now trains with Dareth and Sensei Wu. Then a sudden portal appears.

Meanwhile, in Chima: Plomar and his Plomar mobile (seen in the 4D Experience Chima trailer) flies around, with his friends, Furty, Skinnet, G’loona and this new female wolf cub. They crash into some beavers. They apologize and move on. They see Laval, Eris, Gorzan, Rhogon, Bladvix and Ploman fighting the opposing force. Suddenly, a portal appears.

Reply

Zubashi February 13, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Name: Ploman/Fal
Tribe: Falcons
Side: Good
Enemies: Crocs, Wolves, Razar (archenemy) and Ravens
Friends: Quest (oc), Lions, Eris and Egor (not the other eagles), Gorillas, Bears, Rhinos, Plomar, Skinnet, Furty, and his tribe.
Neutral: Eagles
Weapons: Smoke bombs, katana, Sword of Seals.
Vehicles: Plomobile, Falcon mech.
Bio: Razar, an old friend of Fal and Quest, the trio were the best of friends. But one day, Razar was asked the kill Fal’s parents, close friends and relatives for trinkets, treasure, money and the golden chi orb. He loved treasure more than his friends, so he accepted. He killed Fal’ parents, close friends and relatives, he became Ploman, after he had met Plomar.

I wish there were pictures of the Crocodile Swamp Lair. It comes with at least one exclusive figure (Queen Krunket, or possibly Queen Krunket and General Krasha, he’s the dark green crocodile seen a couple times in the background)!!!

Yeah, no picutres yet. I think it is going to be an exclusive. :)

I think there may have been some mix-up in the names. Please note that this article was written (and most of the discussion have taken place) back in 2013 before the new sets were out. The five finalized minifigs in the Crocodile Swamp sets discussed here are Cragger, Crominus, Crug, Lennox and Leonidas.

Yeah, I think the Crocodile Swamp Set will be exclusive to ToysRUs, just like the Lightning Dragon in NinjaGo was. I also wonder if there will be an exclusive Speedorz set this fall for Rogan and Bladvig? It would make sense because they did fight each other in the tornament episode, and I know they will have figures of them made eventually.

Hey I don’t know if this is the right spot to put this but I emailed Lego asking them something about Lego Universe and they said that they are going to make a Massively Multiplayer online game of Chima! For those of you who don’t know what a MMO is it is an online game where people play in the same world together. It should be similar to LU! (Yes I am super excited!)
