LEGO The Simpsons coming in 2014?

You might have heard the news by now that we may be getting the Simpsons in LEGO form! A Danish newspaper claimed that LEGO is seeking to acquire a license for the hit TV cartoon The Simpsons. According to the article LEGO’s marketing director, Mads Nipper, confirms that the company is negotiating with the people behind The Simpsons, but cannot confirm if an agreement has been made. If they do agree we may be seeing LEGO The Simpsons sets as early as 2014. 🙄

Please note that that pictures featured here are not directly from LEGO but from a fan-created LEGO CUUSOO project that was running for a while but has been taken down (perhaps another indication that LEGO The Simpsons is indeed coming soon?). But at least they give you an idea. 😛

LEGO The Simpsons Characters Concept by B.Parsons

The Simpsons is definitely a favorite of many kids and adults, so there should be plenty of fans of a LEGO The Simpsons line of products. Although I suspect most people would buy them just to get the minifigures and maybe set up a few scenes from the cartoon. It should be interesting…

The color-scheme of The Simpsons definitely match LEGO, and the characters already have yellow skin! They are practically begging to be LEGO-ized. Now that I think about it I don’t know why it wasn’t done before!

What do you think? How do you like the idea of LEGO acquiring The Simpsons license and making LEGO The Simpsons sets and characters? Which of The Simpsons characters are you most looking forward to? And which of The Simpsons settings would you like to see in LEGO form? Perhaps the Springfield Church? Krusty Burger? Kwik-E-Mart? The KBBL Broadcasting Station? The Springfield Elementary School? Or Bart’s tree-house? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

      You mean “D’oh”??

  • Quigley March 18, 2013, 10:27 AM

no offence, but i would ge very angry if lego made this into a theme. it would be like lego sbongebob all over again.

    • ninja of awesomeness March 18, 2013, 12:57 PM

THEY BETTER NOT AKME THIS THEME! ITS INAPROPREATE! I CAN’T BELEIVE KIDS WATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEGO IS CRAZY! DO NOT MAKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ninja of awesomeness March 18, 2013, 12:57 PM

i know, lego spongebob was bad.

    • yodaman5556 March 18, 2013, 3:17 PM

Yeah, I know….I don’t really mind if they do (it will bring some new colours and elements into the world), but it probably will (as you said) turn out to be like the LEGO Spongebob Squarepants theme (that, as it happens, just ended 😛 ).

    • Legoman640 March 18, 2013, 4:20 PM

      I agree.

      • Micho March 20, 2013, 11:52 AM

Hey… I like LEGO Spongebob… well actually I like the minifigures only… but I am not interested in LEGO Simpsons… then again LEGO is smarter than us when it comes to their merchandising… they might know something we don’t.

  • CrazyBricks March 18, 2013, 10:40 AM

I agree I would not be very happy if there were simpsons sets I don ‘t like sponge bob but thats a lot better than that

  • ninjanut March 18, 2013, 10:45 AM

The simpsons is a bad adult show (That’s what my parents say) they have bad words i am suprised and shocked at LEGO!

    • The Yellow Ninja March 18, 2013, 10:57 AM

I totally agree with you, this is a HORRIBLE idea. I’m surprised that LEGO would stoop so low. 🙁

      • Håkan March 18, 2013, 1:00 PM

I think the Simpsons show could be rather good. It definitely has its moments. Not sure on which sets would work, though. Maybe Homer’s operating room at the nuclear plants.

        • Darth Awesome March 19, 2013, 2:20 AM

What about the Simpsons’ family house?

          • Håkan, Sweden March 19, 2013, 7:28 AM

Yeah, kind of a big set, though… My first thought was that it might be a bit plain… On the other hand, the Modular Houses and some Friends sets are pretty much equivalents.

    • samuel March 22, 2013, 10:20 AM

      I agree
I hope they don’t do this
      : (

  • Strider March 18, 2013, 11:13 AM

I don’t even watch the Simpsons and I don’t think I would purchase the sets if they were made. I don’t like the cartoonish sets. Lego certainly is making a ton of new themes this year.

  • Polychrome March 18, 2013, 11:30 AM

I just found this on the MBs from a mod:

“We wanted to let you know that as of today we do not have official plans to produce a LEGO Simpsons theme.
Of course we are always working on new themes for the future. Part of that process is chatting with other companies about possible partnerships. That does not mean that we are definitely going to produce a theme with that company.
To keep LEGO as innovative and exciting as our fans expect we must always be brainstorming and researching. As always, we will let you know if there is news to share.”
In a follow-up post she said
“We do not currently have any plans to make Simpsons sets. No one knows what the future could possibly hold, but we do not have plans to make LEGO Simpsons at this time”
So, no Lego Simpsons! Personally, I’m glad.

(BTW, this is my first post here, so hi! :D)

  • Brick Boy March 18, 2013, 11:45 AM

I would hate if LEGO made simpsons!
    It’s not for children!I think it’s a disgusting show!
    -Brick Boy

  • ninjanut March 18, 2013, 11:55 AM

    I agree brickboy!

  • tenny1028 March 18, 2013, 11:56 AM

I don’t know why LEGO is doing this. There are so much bad stuff going on in that show, I’ve not been allowed to watch it. I thought LEGO was a kid’s toy, and even the LEGO messageboards have been directed toward younger-than-13 audiences. Why do they make LEGO The Simpsons when they don’t believe in making cool guns like BrickArms does?

    • tenny1028 March 18, 2013, 1:23 PM

But then again, they did make LEGO The Hobbit and LEGO Lord of the Rings, as well as Star Wars episodes III and VI.

      • Håkan March 18, 2013, 3:05 PM

There aren’t many guns in The Simpsons, though, Snake Jailbird’s carrying an occasional shotgun, and the rich texan has two revolvers, not a lot…

        • Håkan March 18, 2013, 3:24 PM

And of course Moe carries a shotgun, as well…

  • Steven March 18, 2013, 11:59 AM

This would be a perceptively poor choice by Lego. the Simpsons are not a childrens show, they use poor language, drink accessively and smoke, so by that media I certainly hope they do not consider this venture. Sponge Bob was a nice experiment, went ok with the sets but that was good enough for now.

    • Legoman640 March 18, 2013, 4:24 PM

      I agree.

  • legostuff71 March 18, 2013, 11:59 AM

With all these licencing perry soon LEGO will just be known as licenced products and not LEGO for LEGO anymore. It’s almost as if LEGO has forgotten how special LEGO was in the first place.( keep it real LEGO.)

    • Isaac The Awesome! March 18, 2013, 12:22 PM

      Yeah!

      • Legoman640 March 18, 2013, 4:26 PM

        I agree!!!

    • Polychrome March 18, 2013, 12:24 PM

Well-said. I myself only buy non-licensed themes (Ninjago and Kingdoms, specifically) because the licensed themes are so expensive! Plus, I like building custom minifigures, and that’s hard to do with iconic costumes such as the Jedi robes.

      • admin March 18, 2013, 12:28 PM

I also prefer non-licensed themes. My current favorite is Galaxy Enforcer. The Jedi robes actually work pretty well for peasants. Not all of them, but a good number of them. And the Sith Lords make great ninja guys. 😉

      • ninja of awesomeness March 18, 2013, 1:02 PM

i like ninjago! they are much cheaper than star wars. (that’s all i’ve got to say.)

    • admin March 18, 2013, 12:39 PM

LEGO still has plenty of non-licensed product lines, however it is true that they seems to be going after licenses with a vengeance these days. One of the reasons I heard was that LEGO actually doesn’t own the license for most of the parts they make. And with the advance of technology and precision new companies are popping up all over Asia using the same elements as LEGO. Some of them even copy LEGO sets doewn to the box design, minifigs, etc. Of course this is not entirely legal, however there is little LEGO can do to protect themselves. However with licensed themes they also have the backing of powerful companies who have a lot more money and resources to protect copyrights. It is one thing to get into a legal battle with LEGO, it is an entirely different matter to fight some of the largest franchises in history. So it is not a bad idea for LEGO to line up with the big guys. And as far as LEGO fans are concerned, we just get more choices, which is not a bad thing. 😉

      • Strider March 18, 2013, 12:58 PM

I prefer nonlicensed themes for the price, but sometimes you can get good deals on licensed sets on Amazon. For me it really depends on the sets and the style, once I feel the need for a set, no price will stop me 🙂

      • Håkan March 18, 2013, 1:04 PM

The general system could only be protected by a patent, and Lego Company has let all the relevant patents expire. What’s illegal is copying the newer parts, as well as direct themes and set designs, afaik. Producing your own nearly-identical toy based on the same basic system should be perfectly legal.

  • legostuff71 March 18, 2013, 12:04 PM

    pretty not perry. opps!

  • Isaac The Awesome! March 18, 2013, 12:21 PM

That is dumb! I hate it (I’v only herd how bad it is!) It’s soooo bad! I hate it!

    • admin March 18, 2013, 12:29 PM

LOL! Okay, we hear ya! 🙄

  • bently March 18, 2013, 12:34 PM

    Ughh This would be awful.

  • legostuff71 March 18, 2013, 12:40 PM

What happend to my comment? It doesn’t show up after I click “submit”. ( My name and my e-mail is correct.)

    • admin March 18, 2013, 12:45 PM

What comment are you missing? They are all there as far as I can tell. Please note that when there are a lot of people on at the same time it may take a bit for a comment to show up as the pages are cached to help manage the traffic. But other than that they are all there. 😉

  • legostuff71 March 18, 2013, 2:55 PM

It’s all their, I have forgotten about the delay. Thanks

  • Noahnace10 March 18, 2013, 3:36 PM

All I know about The Simsons is that we got our Minor League Baseball team’s name from the show. 😉

    • Håkan March 18, 2013, 5:23 PM

      “The Isotopes”? 😉

      • Noahnace10 March 18, 2013, 5:32 PM

        Yeah!

  • ntk743 March 18, 2013, 3:47 PM

Really LEGO… Really. LEGO should be ashamed of this dumb idea!

    • Legoman640 March 18, 2013, 4:36 PM

Yea Lego, why would you do stuff like this?!?! I thought this was to be kids friendly!!! 👿 This is a terrible idea!

(By the way, nice to see you again Ntk743! Nice gravatar! Haven’t seen you and Nace(Noah)for a while!)

  • Tom March 18, 2013, 6:23 PM

from a collection perspective this would be brilliant and lots of adult fans would go crazy over this.

Would I want these to build/play with my son with I’m not so sure.

The spongebob sets were actually pretty good considering the constraints lego were working within. I guess if they were to I’d get Maggie and maybe marge but thats it for me….

    • Håkan March 18, 2013, 7:39 PM

Moe’s bar would probably look rather cool, with the jukebox and a lot of framed pictures…

  • Håkan March 18, 2013, 7:38 PM

I’m amazed at the massive negative response… Don’t have a cow, man!

    • admin March 18, 2013, 8:00 PM

Yeah, no love for Homer. The Simpsons are pretty innocent compared to many other shows that kids watch these days, but what can I say? We have a tough crowd. 🙄

  • VictoriaLego(Victoria9922) March 18, 2013, 11:27 PM

    not sure…

  • Fikko3107 March 19, 2013, 1:52 AM

Does the fact that Indiana Jones was a 17 and up movie justifies that this is appropriate? I don’t think so…

    • Håkan, Sweden March 19, 2013, 7:36 AM

Where did Indiana Jones get a NC-17 rating?

I believe the current (US) ratings are about PG-13 for all four movies. (The earlier movies were released before there was a PG-13 rating.)

  • ninjanut March 19, 2013, 8:53 AM

Raiders was PG, Temple of Doom PG, Crusade PG-13,
Crystal Skull PG-13 I have all the movies so those are the ratings for them now.

    • Håkan March 19, 2013, 9:21 AM

Yeah, thank you. But Raiders and Temple were produced before there was a PG-13 rating. It’s likely they would have received a PG-13 nowadays, at least the uncut versions.

I think the early movies got a 15 rating in Sweden when they were released, even cut… Nowadays they would likely have gotten an 11 rating uncut… In Sweden, it’s mainly violence and horror the censors object to, sex and drug references rarely cause more than a G rating…

      • Strider March 19, 2013, 9:16 PM

I was going through my Dark Ages when IJ was out. Managed to get the Venice Canal Chase and then found out it was going to be no more 🙁 A melting face minifig might have been cool 🙂

  • Sarah March 19, 2013, 2:43 PM

Need Phineas & Ferb LEGO! 😀

I wouldn’t mind if they did a Simpson run. I just wouldn’t buy it so it’d save me some money. lol.

  • Freeling March 22, 2013, 12:40 PM

You have got to be kidding me. This is the stupidest idea you could possibly come up with. And besides, the figs look retarded! If you really want it to be a theme, then ask the mega bloks company.

  • Tydroid March 22, 2013, 9:48 PM

As low as Mega Bloks is, I think they won’t go for that theme either e.e

The Simpsons is a bad show with cursing, if LEGO did make a theme of this, it would encourage the kids to watch the show, which I do NOT want to see…

    • ike April 6, 2013, 11:10 AM

I agree, Lego should not make these. Even if they did, I don’t expect them to sell very well.

      • Johnny Cakes May 20, 2013, 5:22 PM

Seriously? Everything The Simpson makes are a hit. Plus they’re collectible.

    • Alex May 21, 2013, 8:13 AM

Tyroid what are you talking about Simpsons are great and kids already watch it. Plus all they say is “Hell” and “Damn”. You shouldn’t say things if you don’t know what your talking about.

      • toast August 13, 2013, 11:28 AM

who cares if they say “hell” and “damn”? they made a back to the future set and they say “shit” and “asshole” and you don’t see ANYONE complaining about that.

    • George July 11, 2013, 12:25 PM

Are you joking or something because the Simpsons is family friendly and you don’t really have anything to back up your points the simpsons don’t really swear form time to time they say ass and crap but that’s it the show gives good morals to kids all in all the simpsons secretly gives good lessons that kids should learn but they do it in a fun way so give me a reason why they shouldn’t make Lego Simpson sets now

  • Corey May 17, 2013, 3:56 PM

    Kids already watch the Simpsons

  • boo June 6, 2013, 9:34 AM

    Simpsons are awesome

  • tb June 21, 2013, 12:14 PM

    yes they should

  • ghi June 26, 2013, 9:36 PM

they should totely make that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

  • ghi June 26, 2013, 9:38 PM

and also, its true that the show shows cursing but put 10+ on the set

  • jordan July 28, 2013, 10:02 PM

im sure that the toys wont curse, besides the market is bigger than young children, both lego collectors and simpsons fans will love the simpsons lego its a billion dollar idea and i hope they decide to go through with it.
