2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings pictures

We have talked about the upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings sets as they were revealed at the Toy Fairs earlier this year (see 2013 LEGO Sets: LEGO Lord of the Rings). Although not officially released yet, two of the LEGO Lord of the Rings summer sets showed up on Kmart’s website. (See the other two at the post linked above.) The listing has been done by mistake and the sets are not available for sale yet, but at least we can take a better look. 😛

2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings Sets

#79007 LEGO Lord of the Rings Battle at the Black Gate – Fly the Great Eagle high above the Black Gate of Mordor where Aragorn and Gandalf the White must distract the Eye of Sauron. Includes a Great Eagle and 5 minifigures: Aragorn, Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron, and 2 Mordor Orcs. Price: $59.99

I don’t collect Lord of the Rings sets, but these still look amazing! The new Lego eagle is wonderful, and the pirate ship looks like it belongs in the third POTC movie! The figures are nice too. If I do get any of the sets, I’ll get the Wizard Duel set because it’s small but comes with both Gandalf and Soramon. It kind of reminds me of the small Harry Potter set that came with about four figures, including Harry and Voldemort! 🙂

The ship is mine!!! 😀 I can’t for these to be released! The ship is awesome!

I REALLY like the eagle, but the set looks so big and expensive! 🙁
It should have come with the Attack of the Wargs.

    • pythor953 April 13, 2013, 2:49 PM

Good point. In my opinion the attack of the wargs set seemed very incomplete. An eagle should definetly have been in that set, and the pale orc also.

I’m envisioning one more wave of Hobbit sets at the end of this year. Sets like: Lake Town, Smaug’s Treasure Hoard, and The Battle of Five Army’s! Although They should have done Lothlorien
or Minas Tirith, I get feeling we will never have Galadriel or Faramir…Eowyn was an important one too, wasn’t She?

Yes, it’s pretty much confirmed there will be a wave of Hobbit sets at the end of this year. Also, there is a Tower of Isengard (Orthanc) Ultimate Collector Series set rumored for this summer. 😉

I’m envisioning one more wave of Hobbit sets at the end of this year. Sets like: Lake Town, Smaug’s Treasure Hoard, and The Battle of Five Army’s! That’s were we will get Pale-Orc/Azog! Or maybe He’s just to Scary 🙂 Although They should have done Lothlorien or Minas Tirith, I get feeling we will never have Galadriel or Faramir. Eowyn was an important one too, wasn’t She? Of course with Arwen and Elrond, they now have a good hairpieces to use.

I like the idea of an Azog minifigure. He should come with a custom battle-axe. They should make some Harad and Easterling minifigs too!

  • I am awesome April 13, 2013, 2:37 PM

    Wow those are cool!

  • Darth Awesome April 14, 2013, 6:34 AM

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Dark Jedi April 14, 2013, 5:45 PM

Dunno why the black gate set is so expensive, looks kinda small to me.

    • Meneldur son of Garamar May 5, 2013, 9:00 PM

Yeah! It is too small in my mind! Are you a Sith?

  • Frank April 15, 2013, 1:27 PM

    Totally getting this.

  • lord of the rings April 16, 2013, 10:07 AM

    black gate is awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • Meneldur son of Garamar April 29, 2013, 9:12 PM

No oliphaunt?! I like these sets and hope Lego continues making more! I think they should make a $25.00 Watcher in the Water set, a $20.00 balrog set, maybe a $60.00 Meduseld set, a $40.00 Grond set (complete with mountain troll and Gothmog minifigure), and maybe a massive ultimate collector’s Minas Tirith set for $300.00 at the least.

  • ike May 1, 2013, 11:34 AM

I’m going to have to forgo these for the tower of orthanac, but I love the mouth of saron minifigure!

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 2, 2013, 7:31 PM

Lego should also come out with an Amon Hen set with Lurtz, Aragorn, an Uruk-hai warrior, Boromir, and Frodo. They should also make a custom Anduril sword for Aragorn and a Sting that glows blue in the dark.

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 5, 2013, 5:56 PM

Orthanc is my most favorite LOTR set yet. Pirate Ship Ambush, Wizard Battle, Council of Elrond, and Battle at the Black Gate are awesome but personally I like the first wave of Lord of the Rings sets better although Pirate Ship Ambush is spectacular. Lego got the detailing perfect and the sails are amazing. I do think the Army of the Dead minifgs should have glowed in the dark like my Sting idea (see my Sting idea in the comment above). Also they should have been translucent. Still I am happy that Lego continues the Lord of the Rings theme, it being my all-time favorite line of sets. The detailing on the elven chairs in the Council of Elrond is exceptionally well-done and Elrond’s hair is very nice! I’ll have to get this set because of Elrond and Arwen along with those beautiful new arches. However the one thing I did dislike was that the set was wicked small and I think it might have been better if it had been a bit larger. And the flinging function is stupid! Gimli doesn’t go flying that far in the movie. If he did, he wouldn’t have even been on the Fellowship because he would have been dead! I did find the Black Gate was a love-hate set. Certain pieces and elements I loved however it was a little too small for my liking though you can easily do some tweeking and make it a lot bigger. I’ll probably get at least two of this set and combine them. The Great Eagle (I wonder if it’s Gwaihir?) is marvelous and its wings are awesome! I can always have more than one of these. Mouth of Sauron is nicely done and I like that the set came with orcs though a few more would have been nice and a BIGGER Black Gate (now when I say BIGGER I’m talking HUGE…well not really HUGE, but big) would have been even nicer. Still it is a must-have in my mind, the Black Gate being so iconic in the films. And lastly I have to comment on the Wizard Battle. It actually is pretty good for a tiny set and smaller Lord of the Rings sets are hard to do, but I find it rather sad. Saruman is beautiful, just like in the video game, and Gandalf is…well Gandalf. (Note: I am sick of him being in so many sets.) When Lord of the Rings sets first came out I was sad that Gandalf came in only one set. But when the Hobbit and second wave of Lord of the Rings came out I was tired of him being in so many though Gandalf the White is amazing! The Palantir is nothing compared to the one in Orthanc but the Eye of Sauron element is exclusive to this set so far. I think Lego did that on purpose so you’d get it!

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 5, 2013, 5:57 PM

Strider, I’ve seen some of your LONG comments and thought I’d do some of my own.

  • brick addict June 1, 2013, 12:09 PM
