The LEGO MOC Challenge – Part 1

(Written by Chi-bacca)

As you probably know, in LEGO-language MOC stands for “My-Own-Creation”, meaning; LEGO models that you design on your own. The other day I decided to give myself a challenge; building some custom LEGO characters out of LEGO Hero Factory parts and a few LEGO Bionicle elements from sets I didn’t mind to take apart. I had an hour and some music, and eventually came up with some figures I thought to share with you. I think they turned out pretty well – if I might say so. ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO Hero Factory

First, we have this LEGO Hero Factory Stringer-inspired character that I named Shadow. He is a mysterious person who is neither good nor bad. He wields a flame-sword and a blaster, and has a mystical blade mounted on his back as a possible third weapon.

Second, we got a hero I call White Knight. He is a veteran hero that not a lot of people remember. At one point he worked with the LEGO Hero Factory character Stormer, and they became good friends. He wields an extremely strong sword made out of an advanced material that has no name. He also carries a shield.

Next, we have a figure I have not yet named. You can let me know in the comment section below what he should be called. He is taller than most heroes and had to make do with the odd colored parts due to his size. Despite the clashing colors his armor has proved its worth during his lifetime. He carries a short-sword and a heavily armored blaster.

Penultimately (you may have to look that up in the dictionary), we have a LEGO Hero Factory Surge-inspired character that I named Bolt. He is highly ranked, and is respected among his friends. His blue armor is almost always sparkling, and he makes sure he is always prepared. He wields an electric-blade, and a blaster that shoots lightning. The shoulder pieces of his armor are heavily plated.

Finally, we haveย the beast. Its name is simply the Beast. It does not speak but reeks havoc wherever it goes. Whether it be from its swiping tail, humongous paws, or its razor-sharp blades protruding from its sides, destruction will follow it. You may be surprised to discover this is actually a hero. Despite its bulkiness and tough exterior it has a soft spot; its belly. ๐Ÿ˜€

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the outcome of these characters. It did take me an hour to make them, due to taking pictures and trying to perfect the models. If you would like to build your own custom LEGO Hero Factory characters you can check out the Online LEGO Shop for currently available Hero Factory sets.

So what do you think? How do you like the LEGO challenge idea and my custom hero figures? Would you like to try the challenge yourself? What would you build? Let me know in the comment section below! Also, I’m a TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO) and this is my second article here. (You can read my first post here: LEGO Legends of Chima Gorzan’s Gorilla Striker Review.) Thanks for reading, and look out for Partย 2 coming soon! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Legoman640 August 30, 2013, 10:55 AM

Yea,Shadow’s my favorite along with Bolt. Maybe Chi-Bacca can name the colorful one Flasher or Striker.

      • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 12:33 PM

Hmmm good names there i prefer flasher ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 12:35 PM

Thanks but I think two ball joint pieces are probably more accurate ๐Ÿ˜€

  • legodude19 August 30, 2013, 12:21 PM

Nice models! I’m sorry to say though that the pics are eally fuzzy… I kinda started getting a headache lol!

Nonetheless tho, I REALLY like all of them except the sandy blue one :).

    • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 12:32 PM

The fuzziness is probably due to the size enhancements as on my camera it looks fine or it may be due to the fact I used the macro option that will capture even the shake of an operation board game expert ๐Ÿ˜€
Sandy blue one being the tall one?

  • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 12:37 PM

Admin, do you want me to retake the pictures so you can update the post? It can easily be done but it will be later as I’m about to eat tea and then go down to the quay for an Italian stallions car night and a drink with my parents and my sister with her boyfriend

    • admin August 30, 2013, 2:43 PM

You British with your tea! Something I will never understand! ๐Ÿ˜›

As far as the pictures, I also thought they were unusually fuzzy, but I don’t think they are that bad that we need to change them. Something must have gone wrong with your camera setting. I don’t remember the pictures being fuzzy in your first post. And for your upcoming posts (part 2) the pictures are sharp again, so it was probably just a glitch. It happens to my camera too at times. ๐Ÿ˜•

      • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 3:58 PM

LOL yes tea is very important here ๐Ÿ˜€
I have no idea what happened but my macro setting does show even the slightest little movement so I have to take like 15 shots ๐Ÿ˜•
I’ve sorta got a part three but it has nothing to do with HF and I’ll write/email it to you when part 2 is up. Am I right in thinking when I get to three posts I become a contributor?

        • admin August 30, 2013, 4:37 PM

Yes, once you have 3 published posts you can become an official contributor. Since with the next post you will have three, you can start thinking about writing your contributor’s page. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Chi-bacca August 31, 2013, 4:28 AM

Nice! I think I’ll enjoy writing about me ๐Ÿ˜€ there’s some stuff you guys definitely don’t know ๐Ÿ˜‰

            • Hรฅkan August 31, 2013, 5:45 AM

              Tea lover, myself.

I’ll have some old Bionicle now – (I’ve found a combined set cheaply at a thrift store, and I have some more at home) – but just a few random pieces of Hero Factory, so I probably have to pass on this.

      • benny August 31, 2013, 7:58 AM

lol admin its the way british people say it, but then the queen wont lol. GO BRITISH PEOPLE ๐Ÿ˜›

        • Hรฅkan August 31, 2013, 8:15 AM

Oh yeah, “eat tea”. Since afternoon tea should include a certain amount of sandwiches (some with cucumber, if I remember correctly) it sorta makes sense…

        • Chi-bacca August 31, 2013, 8:41 AM

Yup, i meant it like dinner but I thought writing tea would be funny to see reactions ๐Ÿ˜€

          • benny August 31, 2013, 9:38 AM

I know just I was saying its how british people say it, also I am british

          • admin August 31, 2013, 9:41 AM

Crafty! I have to watch out with you British guys! ๐Ÿ˜›

  • ninja of stealth August 30, 2013, 12:56 PM

cool! I liked the bolt one! that was cool! but instead of “bolt” you should call it “the bolt” it makes it sound cooler!

    • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 1:10 PM

      That’s his nickname ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Budder Ninja FTW ( NRG PYTHOR) August 30, 2013, 2:29 PM

    Goodjob!
I used to love Bionicle and herofactory, now I like Ninjago.

    • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 4:00 PM

      Well ninjago is awesome ๐Ÿ˜€
Ninjago constraction figures would be awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

    • ninja of stealth August 31, 2013, 1:25 PM

      virtual high five budder ninja!

  • benny August 30, 2013, 2:42 PM

nice one chi-bacca. i might start an at-te review tomorry as u have done 2. i think u shall call un named one bulk as u said his armour has saved him many times in his life

    • Chi-bacca August 30, 2013, 4:02 PM

Nice that set looks awesome and bulk is already a Hero Factory character ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Ike August 31, 2013, 2:10 PM

Well, there good but they are too small for my taste. I recently built a foot tall character called white flame. He had a Brobdingnagian gun/sword. (you can look that one up ๐Ÿ˜‰ )I love building with bionicle and hero factory pieces. they are so easy to use!

    • Ike August 31, 2013, 2:12 PM

Penultimately means second to last ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Chi-bacca August 31, 2013, 4:55 PM

I made small ones otherwise the colours clash and I have loads of torso pieces left which I can’t really think of what other uses they have but I may take these apart and make a large one as part 3. What do you guys think?

      • Ike September 5, 2013, 6:05 PM

Good idea, as for the body pieces, combine them on the shoulder spot that is normally used for shields, good creations!
