LEGO Mixels available now!

The first wave of the LEGO Mixels characters are now available at the Online LEGO Shop, and should also be available at official LEGO stores and LEGO retailers. Also the LEGO Mixels website is now fully functional, so you can get further info on these wacky characters. 🙂

LEGO Mixels Available Now

LEGO Mixels is tied in with a TV show on Cartoon Network. From what I have seen so far they are aimed at very young kids, for everyone else it seems like watching the show is a good way to seriously damage some brain-cells. Which is surprising as the sets are made up of very small parts that are normally not recommended for young children, so I’m not sure who the target audience is for the TV show. 😕

Fortunately the LEGO Mixels sets themselves are very fun. They are made up of lots of very useful small parts in interesting colors. The characters are also highly collectable with pocket-money. Also, they are great little sets to keep on your desk and doodle with when you have a few minutes – a great way to improve your building skills! LEGO Mixels includes a good number of the new small ball-joints that LEGO fans area already very excited about.

LEGO Mixels Box

LEGO Mixels are funny, creative creatures made up of the basic building blocks of LEGO matter: Fire, Rock, Electricity and more. The Mixels live in tribes spread across a vast world and love to mix and combine. By using the special cubits they will be able to mix into new characters with hilarious and surprising results. Nixels are swarming, colorless creatures of deconstruction. Nixels tear apart everything in their path – including the mixed up Mixels. In the first wave of LEGO Mixels we get three tribes, and we will get more later in the year. Below is a bit more info about them, and you can read more at the LEGO Mixels website.

LEGO Mixels Characters

LEGO MIXELS – INFERNITES: The Infernites have their home in the magma wastelands near the center of the earth, a place full of molten lava, rivers of fire, and lots of lovely smoke. So far, nobody else has dared to travel into this molten homeland. In fact, just thinking about it might cause third degree burns! Characters are: FLAIN, VULK and ZORCH.

LEGO Mixels Infernites

LEGO MIXELS – CRAGSTERS: The industrious Cragsters are a tribe of miners who live in the many tunnels and caverns they have dug under the surface of the world. They smash, they dig, they are great to have around. Unless, of course, you have lots of fine china! Characters are: CRADER, SEISMO and SHUFF.

LEGO Mixels Cragsters

LEGO MIXELS – ELECTROIDS: The Electroids live in towers high up in the mountains to stay as close as possible to the lightning storms that energize them (and make them kind of crazy at the same time). Characters are: TESLO, ZAPTOR and VOLECTRO.

LEGO Mixels Electroids

➡ LEGO MIXELS – NIXELS: Nixels are annoying and destructive little creatures who are spread all over the land of the Mixels. They live to tear down and break apart the world around them, including any cool combinations that the Mixels create. In fact, there is nothing the Nixels hate more than when two or three Mixels combine together and get super powers. So the Nixels have made it their mission in life to put and end to such crazy creativity all together. And the only way to do this is to hide and destroy the cubits which enable the Mixels to combine in the first place. One Nixel can do little harm. But when they swarm together they can break apart a Mixel in seconds. So now you’re warned! My understanding is that a Nixel is included in every Mixels set. Maybe someone who has them already can confirm this?

I don’t really like Mixels, but I suppose it could be fun to build some Mixels size Nixels! 😛

  • ~EliteBrick~ February 18, 2014, 10:16 AM

I saw a whole box of these at Toys “R” Us yesterday!

    • admin February 18, 2014, 11:18 AM

Oh, really? I should check mine. Although we have a tiny TRU and they are late on everything. 😕

  • Alex February 18, 2014, 10:22 AM

I can’t wait to get all the Electroids, and all the blue ones once they become available!

  • BLProductions February 18, 2014, 10:29 AM

These are so…weird. I want to get Zaptor and Volectro because they come with some pieces I want for MOCs. But I must say that I like collectable Minifigs way better, but I still have zero collectable figs.

As for Nixels being included in each set, I don’t think there are, because I was just at Lego Shop and I counted the pieces on Zaptor and got 60 out of 61. So I’m doubting the Nixels, though it’d be great to get some.

  • Håkan February 18, 2014, 10:42 AM

Checking out the building manuals, it appears that one nixel is included in one set per three of each tribe. They’re not included randomly, and which mixel containing the nixel could be found by checking out the manuals.

    • Håkan February 18, 2014, 10:54 AM

I’m checking out my manuals here.

Nixels are included for Vulk, Krader and Teslo, specifically .

      • admin February 18, 2014, 11:15 AM

Hakan, thanks for checking! That’s very helpful! 🙂

      • BLProductions February 18, 2014, 12:42 PM

Cool! I was gonna say Teslo, b/c I couldn’t count enough pieces on him to be all the set. I got 42 out of 54, so I’m gonna say the nixels are around 10 pieces.

        • Håkan February 18, 2014, 3:34 PM

In the sets, the nixels are 8, 10 and 11 pieces, although there might be extra parts included.

  • ninja of stealth February 18, 2014, 11:31 AM

I’m sorry, but is it just me that they are a little on the freaky side? when I was at the movie theater for the LEGO movie I had too sit through it for five minuets. I thought it would never end! 😮 its not that I don’t like them in LEGO, its just that the cartoon network thing is, freaky. If I didn’t see them in the movie theater, and they weren’t freaky; plus I have lots of other stuff I want. then I would get some. they just aren’t my thing. plus they follow me wherever I go. (I’m serious. 😮 )

    • admin February 18, 2014, 1:58 PM

Yeah, as I mentioned in the article, watching the Mixels on Cartoon Network could probably cause some serious brain damage. 🙄

      • ninja of stealth February 19, 2014, 12:24 PM

yes they will/do damage brain cells! but like you said, who is the targeted audience? there one of the most freaky things on this planet. (right behind MLP, and adventure time! 😮 )

        • admin February 19, 2014, 1:52 PM

Yeah, LOL! I’m afraid for the generation that is growing up now! If they watch these kind of shows they will be zombies by the time they reach adulthood! 😯

  • legodude19 February 18, 2014, 1:14 PM

I’m actually kinda liking these… very cheaply priced and cute! 😀

    • admin February 18, 2014, 2:00 PM

Yeah, I like them too and planning to get at least some of them. They are very cute. I especially like the red and yellow ones. 😛

  • Ray February 18, 2014, 2:51 PM

I saw some Mixels shorts on CN during some other shows. I’m not sure if the real thing is going to involve longer episodes or if shorts like that are the entirety of it. A lot of kids toys like this, regardless of how cool the designs are, live and die on entertaining tie-in fiction.

You also wouldn’t know from watching the cartoon that these are Lego critters. The animation character models are highly abstracted from the toy sets.

    • admin February 18, 2014, 4:01 PM

Ray, great observation! Yeah, if a kid is watching the show they would never think it is LEGO! I have also seen the trailer for the show before The LEGO Movie, and there was no mention that LEGO sets were available with the characters. At least I don’t remember. But as far as I know this is a LEGO-CN collaboration so it is not like other brands will also release some Mixels.

      • ninja of stealth February 19, 2014, 12:30 PM

you saw the trailer two? that was labor-intensive just watching it. 🙄 it was like sitting through a MLP episode. (hopefully that doesn’t get turned into LEGO. 😮 ) and yes legolander, that is so true. I was haunted by that the rest of that week, oh wait, I still am! 😯

        • admin February 19, 2014, 1:45 PM

Yeah, I was just walking into the theatre when it was playing. I thought, “Oh, Mixels! Cool!” But then I saw how crazy it was and wasn’t sure about the coolness any more. I still like the LEGO Mixel sets though! 🙄

          • Håkan February 20, 2014, 6:18 AM

I get the idea, but I actually think the conception would work better without dialogue.

This short was a bit cute.

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxEVWAoiQ1w

I remember there were some MLP proposals on Cuusoo, but they were cancelled due to Hasbro owning the license.

            • admin February 20, 2014, 9:10 AM

Yeah, that is a cute video. 😛

          • ninja of stealth February 20, 2014, 12:09 PM

yeah, when I saw it my mouth was hanging open and I was startled and in bewilderment and I was trying not to scream! 🙄

is it just me or do I keep using longer words? oh well, who cares!! 😀

  • Legolander February 18, 2014, 6:17 PM

Holy cow… I think I killed a percentage of my sanity watching that clip.

    • admin February 18, 2014, 8:56 PM

LOL! Yeah, that that my conclusion too!

    • cccuuuullllater August 29, 2014, 5:54 PM

mixels r 2 cool 2 b alive! even though the movie is bad get the lego models, they r so ”ruley”!

  • BLProductions February 18, 2014, 8:11 PM

Can someone tell me how to make links? I have no idea how to do it right, and I found a video that shows Mixels series 2 and 3. They’re pretty weird.

Admin, do you have any upcoming articles about the summer SW sets? Because I have been researching them, and I could do an article on them in a few weeks if I could figure it out and have enough time to write one. Currently I’m not doing the science reports I should be doing, and it will catch up to me. 😐

    • BLProductions February 18, 2014, 8:13 PM

Aha! I knew it! If I use a smiley, it goes under moderation. No smileys, like the rest of my comments today, and no moderation.

      • admin February 18, 2014, 9:01 PM

That is bizarre. I will have to look into this. I know the plugin I use for moderating comments was just updated a couple of days ago, so this may have something to do with that.

        • admin February 18, 2014, 9:33 PM

Okay, I will monitor this for another day and see if what you are saying is correct. If it is I will contact the owner of the plugin and report what we found. Good notice by the way! I couldn’t figure out what it could be!

    • admin February 18, 2014, 9:00 PM

I have another article this weekend about the upcoming 2014 sets, this time from the New York Toy Fair. There are pictures and videos of the Star Wars sets, but I’m not going into much details. So if you later want to write an article focusing on SW, go ahead. Otherwise we can just wait until closer to the release date to talk about them. I imagine they will be available at the beginning of May, which is the traditional time when the summer SW sets get released.

      • BLProductions February 18, 2014, 9:28 PM

I think the SW are getting released in August, with the Technic. But I have enough videos and pics to do a loooong article on the sets, especially the B-wing (cause it’s my favorite). But I’ll wait a month, it will take a while to write it, and I have like 10 questions since I need to know every detail to do anything :).
And for links, do you mean the bar at the top that shows where you are? Anyways, I’ll try it tomorrow.

        • admin February 18, 2014, 9:40 PM

That sounds good (about the SW sets). As far as links, yep, the bar at the top. Just highlight it, copy it and paste it. The whole thing. And it will magically appear as a clickable link here. 😉

    • admin February 18, 2014, 9:08 PM

Oh, and far as the links, just copy and paste them. It is easy! 😉

  • Fikko3107 February 18, 2014, 8:43 PM

I wonder whether this show is considered as toys based on a show or a show based on toys…I guess we’ll see in a while after seeing whether in air in the UK or not!

    • admin February 18, 2014, 9:02 PM

Oh, because they have some rules, right? That they can’t show movies based on a toy? Or is that the other way around? What’s up with that anyway? It is so weird! 😐

      • Håkan February 19, 2014, 3:30 AM

I think shows based on toys are considered as advertisements, and advertisements aimed at children are regulated. At least that’s the case in Sweden, but I think the laws in UK are more lax than in Sweden. I know children’s channels in Sweden are often transmitted from the UK, because the legislation there would allow commercial breaks within the programming.

        • admin February 19, 2014, 8:50 AM

Oh, I see! That’ makes sense! Well, American kids get bombarded with advertisements from the time they are in diapers! They all grow up as seasoned and hardened advertisement junkies!

          • Håkan February 19, 2014, 9:02 AM

Yeah, I think this has started to change somewhat since the 80’s, but until the 80’s, the only place commercial shorts could be shown was before the cinema, never on television.

There’s only one advertisement-funded terrestrial channel in Sweden, TV4, and I think they aren’t allowed any commercial spots aimed at children, although it’s been a while since I watched their children’s programming.

  • Darkon February 18, 2014, 11:29 PM

I really want to see what the combiner models for the summer Mixels look like! I have no idea what a bat, a wizard, and a spider would combine into, or for that matter what a lobster, crab, and a squid would! Also, I believe that the Nixels come with the smallest Mixels, or at least that seems to be the current case.

    • Håkan February 19, 2014, 3:32 AM

It makes sense that the nixels should make the packs roughly equal in size.

  • Bohrok Tru February 19, 2014, 10:33 AM

    OMGOODNESS THEIR SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting soo many Cragsters!!! THEN I WILL MAKE A MINIFIG-SIZED EXO-SUIT WORTHY OF THE EXO-FORCE DAYS!!!
    k. I’m done with my girlish squealing now =P

  • ninja of stealth February 20, 2014, 12:13 PM

honestly, I think only adults think this is “adorable.” in my opinion.

  • Xi ninja February 20, 2014, 4:42 PM

That video….. 😕 Don’t know how to respond to it……..

    • admin February 20, 2014, 4:44 PM

      Yeah… I know what you mean… 😯

  • krono111 February 26, 2014, 1:23 PM

I’m not really excited about it. Nothing for my buildings.
    And you admin?

    • admin February 26, 2014, 1:43 PM

I have all of them and I love them! Very creative building techniques and the part-selection is excellent; great colors, small unique parts, and those new ball-joints are a LEGO fan’s dream come true! 😛

      • krono111 February 26, 2014, 2:19 PM

Well, I really don’t know for what I could use it… So for what do you use it?

        • admin February 26, 2014, 4:05 PM

You mean the new ball-joints? Mecs, spaceships, vehicles, tanks, brick-built creatures and people, battle-machines… there are so many uses! 😛

          • krono111 February 27, 2014, 11:09 AM

            Spaceship! Spaceship! Spaceship! 😀

          • krono111 March 2, 2014, 7:56 AM

Thank you for the ideas. I think I have to buy now some of them 😀

            • admin March 2, 2014, 8:56 AM

Just start with a couple you really like so you get an idea. They are cheap and the parts are very good, so even if they end up in your loose-parts bin there is no harm done. But I think you will like them. 🙂

  • allie May 21, 2014, 5:08 PM

My daughter lost my son’s Zorch’s eye and I was wondering if anyone knew if you can order just the eye?

    • admin May 21, 2014, 10:08 PM

Allie, call LEGO’s customer service. They can replace it for you. 🙂
