LEGO Mixels – more info, fun & games!

(Written by Alex)

Many LEGO fans are excited about the newly released LEGO Mixels theme. It features small creatures, divided into elemental tribes, with wacky personalities and interesting LEGO parts. In the previous post on LEGO Mixels we talked about the first series of tribes that were just released (see: LEGO Mixels Available Now!), as well as the LEGO Mixels website where you can find more information about the characters, play games, etc.

LEGO Mixels Website

As you probably know, Mixels is a collaboration between LEGO and Cartoon Network, so there is another website dedicated to the Mixels cartoon characters from the TV show, and that’s what I would like to introduce to you today; the official mixels.com website. 🙂

Mixels Website

When you first enter the LEGO Mixels website a small cartoon plays as an intro to the characters and story. After that you are presented with a “homeland” for the Mixels, where you can learn more about the Electroids, Infernites and Cragsters (the three tribes featured so far from Series 1), watch videos, and play games.

LEGO Mixels Mixed Up

As seen in the shorts, another key element to the Mixels is using a small “color-wheel” type object, that can be used to combine the Mixels into unpredictable forms – as you can see below where two characters, Sesmo and Zorch, got combined.

LEGO Mixels Sesmo & Zorch

There are three types of combinations for the Mixels characters. MIX: Combine two Mixels and get twice the power. The one Mixel will be the dominant character, while the other Mixel will give it extra powers to solve a particular problem or get you out of trouble. MAX: Combine all three characters of each tribe and they become a MAX – a giant mega-Mixel who has all their powers combined! MURP: Combine two, three or even four Mixels in whichever way you like, but sometimes it goes a little bit wrong and it becomes a MURP – a weird mixed-up Mixel with totally unique personality that cannot be controlled.

LEGO Mixels Characters

And of course besides seeing the crazy combinations on Cartoon Network, you can use the elements in your LEGO Mixels sets to create all kinds of combinations; an excellent way to enhance your LEGO building skills and experiment with some new techniques! 😀

LEGO Mixels Series 2 & 3

The Mixels website also has a picture of the LEGO Mixels characters in Series 2 and Series 3. In Series 2 there is a blue water tribe, brown mud tribe, and an orange tribe I’m not sure what it represents, and in Series 3 a green plant tribe, a tan tribe I’m again not sure about, and a purple tribe that seems to have magic/psychic/hypnotic abilities. We shall see soon enough…

So visit the Mixels website and let me know what you think! Also, did you pick up any of the LEGO Mixels sets yet? How do you like them? Feel free to share in the comment section below! As you see, I’m a new contributor here at TBB. My name is Alex and I’m just transitioning from a KFOL (Kid-Fan-of-LEGO) to a TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO) this year. I hope you like my first post – feedback is welcome and thanks for reading! 😉

I think the orange team represents crustaceans – crabs and similar shellfish.

    • Alex February 26, 2014, 12:13 PM

Yeah, but what element? And there’s a squid too… maybe like a poison element? I think the ten ones will be sand- or desert- type guys.

      • Alex February 26, 2014, 1:18 PM

        *tan, not ten

      • CrazyBricks February 26, 2014, 5:45 PM

I love those names! Thanks for sharing that! 😛

          • Alex February 27, 2014, 7:38 AM

Frosticons Frosticons Frosticons… sorry I’m just so excited for the Frosticons!

            • admin February 27, 2014, 8:59 AM

Yeah, that one was my favorite too! FROSTICONS! 🙄

  • BLProductions February 26, 2014, 11:37 AM

These things continue to get weirder and weirder. I have no Mixels, but I plan to get Zaptor (and maybe Seismo) from series 1, Lunk and/or Tentro from Series 2, and Glomp, Footi, or Magnifo from Series 3. Or I might get none. 😀

    • ninja of stealth February 27, 2014, 12:30 PM

they do keep getting weirder and weirder, I even had a dream about them yesterday night… freaky.

      • ninja of stealth February 27, 2014, 12:32 PM

opps. that was an accident. (and it had to be purple! Dude. purple just isn’t my style ya know?)

      • admin February 27, 2014, 1:49 PM

You did? That sounds like an interesting dream…

  • Alex February 26, 2014, 12:05 PM

Thanks for posting this, admin! I can’t wait to see what comments I’ll get… also, I couldn’t get the Hero Factory article done because my laptop was broken and I just got it back. At least I could still read and comment on the Brickblogger from another computer 🙂 I’ll finish it as soon as I can.

    • admin February 26, 2014, 1:09 PM

Alex, you are welcome. No rush on HF. You just write whenever you like and have the time. I picked up all the Mixels for myself this past weekend. 🙂

      • Alex February 26, 2014, 1:17 PM

        Awesome, thanks!

  • ninja of stealth February 26, 2014, 12:33 PM

*sigh* I still can’t figure out what the targeted audience is so here’s what I think, for the cartoon TV show, well, to say the least, its freaky and the targeted audience seems like its for kids maybe, seven and under. As for the LEGO version, if they are a hard to build then I’d say I have no idea what the targeted age range is. but if its an easier build then I would say that its probably targeted for kids that are moving on from DUPLO and starting to build more challenging things, so the age range is about maybe, six or seven. so that’s my guess. but for the LEGO version I also think that the LEGO bricks are good for adults because they are unique and good for MOCs. so yeah.

    • admin February 26, 2014, 1:12 PM

Yep, that’s the issue. There is no way I would ever watch those cartoons as they are totally crazy. However the sets are very nice. I got all of them this past weekend and they are great to doodle with. I’m pretty sure that older, more skilled builders would enjoy these more than 6-7 year-olds. They are made of tons of tiny parts that little kids often have trouble with. Also, the real genious of these sets is the building techniques and the interesting parts – I doubt little kids would fully comprehend either…

      • BLProductions February 26, 2014, 1:36 PM

Yep, I agree. Although those little 1 minute Mixel videos on Lego.com don’t count as the cartoons, right? B/c I find a few of them very funny. As for the sets, I believe that in trying to make them small, cheap, and cute in the sets, Lego actually made them rather confusing for little kids. My brother has Shuff and he’s made of a lot of SNOT (Studs Not On Top) pieces and hinges. Also, I thought that little kids couldn’t play with sets that come with small balls, but does that include those small ball joints that come with these? Hm… Only Lego can answer this.

        • admin February 26, 2014, 1:42 PM

According to the packaging Mixels are rated as 6+

          • BLProductions February 26, 2014, 5:18 PM

I guess that means that kids can watch the show, they just can’t have the sets.

            • admin February 26, 2014, 5:23 PM

LOL! Yeah! That’s funny! Those are just suggested age recommendations though. But you are right; it still comes across as contradictory.

          • ninja of stealth February 27, 2014, 12:34 PM

I knew it! anyway, they should have made these DUPLO, not fun for us but would make WAY more sense.

  • Darkon February 26, 2014, 1:09 PM

The official types of the tribes are: Yellow/electric, Black and Grey/rock, Red/fire, Blue/ice, Brown/monster, Orange/water, Green/slime, Tan/desert, and Purple/magic. It’s very confusing, but that’s what the information at the NewYork Toy Fair said. 🙂

    • admin February 26, 2014, 1:24 PM

Oh, thanks for sharing that! Great info! As you said, it is quite confusing though. I could see the names of Series 1 pretty much fitting their characters just right, But I would have never guessed the blue ones being ice creatures, the green ones being slime, or the orange being water… oh, well, they are all cute…

My favorite tribe (so far) is the red ones. All three of them are very-very cute. I like the brown ones most from series 2 and the tan ones from series 3. But I will get them all! 😛

      • Alex February 26, 2014, 3:05 PM

I’m going to get all the Electroids within a week, but I especially like Teslo. I’m also looking forward to the icy guys- my favorite there is Flurr, but Lunk looks funny.

        • Alex February 26, 2014, 3:11 PM

Also, I realized that the eyes for Slumbo, Balk and Mesmo are just white minifig heads with black pupil printings.

          • admin February 26, 2014, 4:06 PM

I was wondering about those! 😀

            • ninja of stealth February 27, 2014, 12:36 PM

really? that’s so cool! I’m going to have to look at that.

              • ninja of stealth February 28, 2014, 12:40 PM

well, I looked at it yesterday and now i want one! but I can’t! but its so cool! nooooo! why does it have to be so cool!!!!!!!

                • ninja of stealth February 28, 2014, 12:41 PM

and what I mean by want one, is the eye minifigs head thing. its so cool! 🙁

                  • Alex February 28, 2014, 1:31 PM

I know, right? It’s clever how they used baseball caps as eyelids!

      • ~EliteBrick~ February 27, 2014, 9:30 AM

You have Series 1 already! Wow I really want them all but it would take me six months of doing all my chores every single day to save up for series 1-3 so maybe not because of Star Wars. My favorite tribes are Grey (series 1) orange (series 2) purple (series 3)

        • admin February 27, 2014, 9:40 AM

The advangate of being a grown-up is to have more money for LEGO… it is not always fun though. Like right now I have to work on filing that mind-boggingly stupid yearly tax-return, something I didn’t have to do when I was a kid… 😕

          • ~EliteBrick~ February 27, 2014, 10:06 AM

            Tax Return bleck!

            • admin February 27, 2014, 11:37 AM

Yeah, tell me about it. 👿

    • gid617 February 26, 2014, 3:36 PM

Most of those make sense except … orange is water? 😕
I guess I can see it in the octopus like shapes, but I would have thought the orange color would have been lava or something!

      • Håkan February 26, 2014, 6:07 PM

It’s the color of crabs and related animals.

        • ninja of stealth February 27, 2014, 12:39 PM

wait, are you sure? because that still doesn’t make sense. they should have made the blue one water and then the ones that are blue white.

  • Håkan February 26, 2014, 4:00 PM

I’m still not sure if they will be released in Sweden. They’re not listed on any of the specialized web shops here…

    • admin February 26, 2014, 4:06 PM

I hope they do, but it could very well be that they won’t allow them because of the CN connection. 🙁

      • Håkan February 26, 2014, 4:12 PM

Or maybe that the show isn’t allowed to air on any major channel, and thus, TLG has deemed the market bad for sales.

        • admin February 26, 2014, 4:52 PM

          That’s possible as well…

          • Håkan February 26, 2014, 6:07 PM

Yeah. I don’t think there are many regulations for toys here, except safety and such. There are harder regulations for advertisement.

  • CaptainChespin February 26, 2014, 6:28 PM

I’ll definitely be getting some of these! 😀 If not because I think they’re cool, definitely because they have some interesting parts! 🙂 Did you see the green (possibly transparent) starfish on one of the plant guys?

    • admin February 26, 2014, 8:22 PM

Yeah, saw that starfish! In fact I originally thought those were some ocean critters because of it! 😀

      • CaptainChespin February 26, 2014, 11:49 PM

That would be a good assumption, save that they are all green. 🙂 I still can’t get over all those neat pieces, though, like all those squiggly seaweed pieces, and the purple wings from LoC. They’re very cool in general, says I! 😛

  • BLProductions February 26, 2014, 7:06 PM

OK, this is off-topic, but does anyone know why all the new sets released on February 17 are sold out on Lego.com/shop? It’s starting to bug me; the Mixels aren’t even there anymore! This may just be in the US….

    • Brick addict February 26, 2014, 7:46 PM

I KNOW! i really want some of them like the new chima spiders! but they have been sold out for a week! i am in the US also…..hope they restock soon! :/

      • admin February 26, 2014, 8:25 PM

Check at your local stores like TRU, Wal-Mart and Target. They do have them. I got mine at WM this past weekend.

    • admin February 26, 2014, 8:24 PM

Hm… that’s strange! I see shat you mean! The Mixels are completely gone! I even had them in my shopping-cart (I was originally thinking of buying them from LEGO’s website) and they are gone from there too! Probably they are having some technical difficulties. I don’t think they are all sold out. 😕

      • BLProductions February 27, 2014, 2:38 PM

Yeah, I doubt the SW are that popular. I mean, if they could get sold out, then ALL The Lego Movie sets would be double sold out!!

        • admin February 27, 2014, 2:56 PM

It seems to be a glitch. I checked this morning and it was still like that. I’m thinking about calling them later today when I have a bit more time.

      • kai February 28, 2014, 3:19 PM

Hey admin, do you know if they (the chima legend beasts) are selling at most LEGO stores? Or are they not there either?

        • admin February 28, 2014, 4:57 PM

I’m not sure. The closest LEGO store to me is two hours away. I have read that they have them at TRU. Maybe call yours to make sure they do?

          • kai February 28, 2014, 6:15 PM

Thanks! But I went to Walmart and got it there. The reason I wanted to know was because at a LEGO store they’d give you a promo for any Chima set and since I’m going to a LEGO store soon, but won’t go to Walmart for a while I wanted to know if it was safe to take chances. But I decided to take none 😀 !

            • admin February 28, 2014, 9:10 PM

I see… yeah, I wouldn’t take any chances either. So far they seem to be very popular so I would also grab them at the first opportunity. 😀

  • Fikko3107 February 26, 2014, 11:11 PM

Please, let me have a LEGO budget of $186 ($151 if Exo-Suit is delayed.)+polybags+some more on the side…

    • admin February 27, 2014, 8:56 AM

Are you praying to the LEGO gods? 🙄

      • Fikko3107 March 3, 2014, 4:58 AM

        Actually…Yes, yes I was.

  • Bohrok Tru February 27, 2014, 2:04 AM

Mixels avalible at my local Fred Meyers!! W00T!!!! is anyone else making a realistic exo-suit for minifigs? I have already made one, now I am making an Exo-suit for a Rock-Monster from the Power-miners series!! I AM SO PUMPED!!!!

    • admin February 27, 2014, 8:57 AM

Oh! What a great idea! I’m going to try that! 😀

      • Vani February 27, 2014, 9:24 AM

I really like that too! Will have to try it myself! 😀

  • nininniinininix February 27, 2014, 5:58 AM

Mixels airing this week 🙂 going to see what its like

  • Alex February 27, 2014, 3:52 PM

There’s a new Mixels mini-episode on the website, and it shows more Nixels and “how they work”.

  • ninja5 April 1, 2014, 4:57 PM

I didn’t read all comments, so I don’t know if someone said this already. Blue is ice, Brown is fangs, orange is rubber, green is swamp, tan is fun lovers, and purple is magicians.
