LEGO Mixels combined characters

We have talked about the recently released LEGO Mixels several times (see links at the end of this post). They are those cute little monsters you can build and mix-and-match in pretty much unlimited ways. Each of the LEGO Mixels packets include one LEGO Mixel character, and if you get all three Mixels within a tribe, you can also build a combined Max character using the downloadable instructions at the LEGO Mixels website. ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO Mixels Max Models

Recently LEGO added more downloadable instructions for other fun mix-and-match combinations – this time between characters from different tribes, and they are referred to as Murps. The official description for these combined models is as follows: “Combine two Mixels and get twice the power. The one Mixel will be the dominant character, while the other Mixel will give it extra powers to solve a particular problem.”

LEGO Mixels Combiner Models

For example you can mix Zorch from the fiery Infernites tribe with Volectro from the Electroids tribe, to come up with the following funny little character with both fire and zapping powers! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

LEGO Mixels Mixed Up

There are many more combinations that you can download the instructions for in a PDF format and save them on your computer or even print them out to follow along. Other combinations only have pictures, so you can take up the challenge of figuring out how they are built. You can find all of the combined models here: LEGO Mixels Combined Models

These alternate models should give you hours of fun creating your own LEGO Mixels characters, and also teach you valuable lessons on interesting building techniques. And if you don’t have any LEGO Mixels yet, you can get them at LEGO retailers or at the Online LEGO Shop.

I have no Mixels, and they’re all out of stock on Lego Shop. But these are hilarious, I hope to get Zaptor and maybe Seismo from Series 1, and I’ll mix those. ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve already mixed Shuff with the collectible minifigs series 11 Yeti, worked out ok, I guess. ๐Ÿ˜
Say, has anyone tried mixing a Mixel with a Legend Beast? That should be funny ๐Ÿ˜€ .

    • admin March 13, 2014, 10:58 AM

Hm… good idea about mixing Mixels with Legend Beasts! Will have to try that out!

      • ninja of stealth March 13, 2014, 12:10 PM

yeah! you should try to mix a legend beast with a mixel admin! that would be VERY interesting indeed. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
also I would get at least one of the mixels if it hadn’t been for that freaky five minuet long video! (or three, it felt like five though ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ) it gave me nightmares! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

        • admin March 13, 2014, 12:28 PM

The real Mixels (not the cartoon characters) are very cute. I promise. I have three of them right here on my desk and they are adorable! ๐Ÿ˜›

    • admin March 13, 2014, 11:01 AM

Also, forgot to mention that the Mixels characters are readily available at the Online LEGO Shop (link is in the article above). You can even buy the entire collection at once, or by tribe. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • BLProductions March 13, 2014, 2:00 PM

Yes I see that now. But yesterday (the last time I checked before my comment) they were all “out of stock, will ship in 30 days.” Probably another hack. ๐Ÿ˜• I’m glad they’re back, now for Zaptor! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Ray March 13, 2014, 11:45 AM

Considering the combining is pretty much the entire gimmick of Mixels, it makes sense that Lego would be putting out these instructions sets. Although the whole thing is a little broken, it’s obvious that the difference between a mix and a murp is entirely arbitrary. At least they have been thorough about it, with 37 combinations that every possible pairing once with one pairing done two different ways.

Personally I’m wondering how much appeal Mixels really have to kids, the 30 second shorts on Cartoon Network are only good for a quick laugh, and that’s being generous towards the extremely simplistic slapstick humor. Oh, members of the target age are probably more amused, but even they should find it hard to get engaged in the theme due to the lack of characterizations. Mixels certainly aren’t Pokemon.

I predict that if Mixels are a success at all, it will be due to the REAL target audience for toys: mothers. Moms will see the cute monsters and the low price and assume that it’s something her kids will like. No telling if it will last beyond the originally designed 27 sets.

    • admin March 13, 2014, 12:27 PM

Ray, yeah, that has been my question too; who are the Mixels really for? The small parts, sophisticated building techniques and abstract characters seems to appeal to adults. While the TV show is definitely for little kids. The show is horrible, but I don’t think it is any worse then most shows on Cartoon Network these days. The LEGO sets are excellent, but I’m looking at it from the persepective of an AFOL. You make an interesting point about moms. I would be really curious to see the sales statistics for this line. ๐Ÿ˜€

Admin, u make little mechs yet?

        • admin March 13, 2014, 2:25 PM

You mean from the Mixels? I did make one last week. This week I have been really busy, but yeah, I love building mechs! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now you guys are just teasing me…

ooohhh ahhhhh Fikko, look at my MECHZ!!
tiny ball-socket joints make for such pretty MECHZ!!

yes, now I personally am teasing you =)

              • Hรฅkan March 14, 2014, 7:36 AM

Are the mixels available in Indonesia? They don’t seem to be available in Sweden and Scandinavia (although they’re available in the larger European countries).

                • Hรฅkan March 14, 2014, 12:22 PM

I found them at BR now. Might be imported directly from Denmark. They don’t seem to be widely available.

              • admin March 14, 2014, 9:25 AM

                Ah… don’t be mean. Poor Fikko… ๐Ÿ™

Yeah, I agree. My mom thinks they’re absolutely adorable and she will get me some to review on my lego youtube channel.

                  • A lego lover April 27, 2014, 10:27 AM

I’ll also need them for some big figures to make an anime – related brickfilm. The big ball joint legs are awesome!

      • kathy June 9, 2014, 12:12 PM

I’m a mom, and yes I think they are adorable! I also like that they are small sets that can be completed quickly unlike regular large sets that my kids have to have, but if they build them they get broken quickly or they just never get built and we have, seriously, we have over 30 gallons of lego pieces. To get to the point of your post, I don’t think they’re too sophisticated to build for children. My 6 year old son built 4 yesterday in about an hour with no help. I love them.

        • admin June 9, 2014, 12:41 PM

Kathy, thanks for sharing that! I’m glad that your son enjoys them. As an adult I love these little characters, but I wasn’t sure how well received they are by kids. Hearing from you and others indicate that they are quite popular with children as well. Nice to hear! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey admin, I haven’t missed a post on this website for like the last 2 years! ๐Ÿ˜› Whenever I see it’s 10:00 or more I get on TBB to see the new post! ๐Ÿ™‚ And guess what?!?! At the end of the month it will have been a year since I made my account.

OOPS! I ment 2 years since I made my account.

    • admin March 14, 2014, 9:28 AM

Yes, you have been here for a long time. I always enjoy your comments, and it is nice to have you around. If it weren’t for you, long-time LEGO fans, I would be just talking to myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • BLProductions March 14, 2014, 2:57 PM

Do I count as a long-time LEGO fan? I’ve had Lego sets since 2005. BTW, I only knew about this site b/c of the 2013 Lego summer SW and 2014 Ninjago posts I found, then I started commenting in January this year. Haven’t missed a post since ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, there is a new Mixels short on Lego.com called “Nixels.”
Wait I thought it was the newest, there’s two more now! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ http://www.lego.com/en-us/mixels/videos/murp

        • admin March 14, 2014, 5:21 PM

You are a longer LEGO fan than I am! I was a LEGO fan as a kid of course, but didn’t get back to the hobby until the end of 2006. I just checked out that Mixels short… super lamez… as one of them Nixels said at the end.

am I one of the users that have been coming on the longest and still is active?

    • admin March 14, 2014, 9:30 AM

It would be difficult for me to tell as there are so many people coming on every day. But you are definitely one of the longest standing, and you are also very regular. Sometimes people come and go, which is I think more common. Also, most readers never comment, so it would be hard to tell their habits. But yeah, your dedication is appreciated. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • StrayCarnivore March 17, 2014, 12:20 PM

Have all 9, bought over two days….ahem….safe to say, the parts included and the actual kits are actually pretty cool. Used a lot of the Red and Grey parts to build myself a Mech, which I really like from a design standpoint ๐Ÿ™‚

    • admin March 17, 2014, 12:21 PM

A red and gray mech with these pieces must be really sweet. Any pictures?

      • StrayCarnivore March 17, 2014, 12:27 PM

Its a ‘fun’ mech, and I added a minifig pilot, but here’s a link to my MOCpage

        http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/383798

Like I say, nothing incredible, but I like the mobility in the legs and the clearly overpowered arms ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin March 17, 2014, 12:34 PM

Nice! Reminds me of the Ninjago Mech. Pretty impressive that you can build such a big mech with just the Mixels parts! I will have to try something like that. ๐Ÿ˜›

          • StrayCarnivore March 17, 2014, 12:37 PM

Indeed, I was surprised at the scale I managed. Next up, dismantle all the Yellow Mixels and see if I can combinethem into the current Mech…..

  • G-Builder May 2, 2014, 9:01 PM

I haven’t got any Mixels yet, but I hope to order them from lego.com ASAP. I’ve seen the series shorts and they are actually kinda funny. When I get them I will build an awesome combo using every single one of them.(wonder how it will turn out?) I will try to post a picture when I do do it.

    • admin May 3, 2014, 11:16 AM

That sounds like a fun project! Looking forward to your picture! ๐Ÿ˜›
