LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler coming!

An interesting piece of news that came out this past weekend is the first image of the #75059 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler that is rumored to be released on Star Wars Day (May 4th) of this year. The picture is from the upcoming updated and expanded version of the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary, and shared by flickr user kjavis88. Check it out! ๐Ÿ™‚

#75059 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler

As you may remember there was a previous version of this set released back in 2005; the #10144 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler. That original set came with 1669 pieces, 11 minifigures (including the highly sought-after Jawas) and retailed for $140. The new version of the LEGO Star War Sandcrawler is quite a different design with a plated instead of brick-built hull. The Jawas are of course included, along with Uncle Owen and presumably several droids. The minifig and piece count is not yet confirmed, but the rumored price is $350 – which puts this into the large and expensive LEGO Star Wars sets category, somewhere between the #10236 LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village (1990 pieces – $250) and the #10188 LEGO Star Wars Death Star (3803 pieces – $400). So yeah, it’s big! ๐Ÿ™„

#10144 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler

We only have this one image of the new LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler, but my initial reaction is that it looks great. I like the plated hull which gives is a rugged, weather-beaten and roughly-welded look. It will most likely come with a lot of features all around and inside. I’m a bit unsure about the large eyes of the Jawas, but I do hope they glow in the dark! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Also, this is a good time to remember and pay homage to the motorized LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler project on CUUSOO by mb_bricks, that although received the required 10,000 votes, was ultimately rejected by LEGO due to it’s tremendous size and cost (see videoย of this project below).

As I have mentioned, the picture is from the upcoming new version of the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary. The book is scheduled to be released at the beginning of May as well.ย Below is the official description:

I’m not sure whether I like this or not… the yellow lights are a bit tacky and I would love more trans yellow windshields for my blacktron MOCS…

Still, it seems better than the last… but where are the Jawa capes???

    • ninja of stealth March 6, 2014, 11:44 AM

but the thing is legozebra, the sand crawler isn’t really meant to look good its just made to carry around droids.

and the new set I think is WAY better than the old one, there’s more detail.

      • admin March 6, 2014, 12:17 PM

I also like the new one better. The plates facing out give the set a much more rugged and rusty look.

        • ninja of stealth March 7, 2014, 12:11 PM

yeah, the old one just didn’t cut it in my opinion.

  • CVJ March 6, 2014, 10:23 AM

With the Star Destroyer and AT-AT coming I doubt I would even entertain the idea of getting the new Sandcrawler. The price rumored if true is also way too high for me to want to get one.

the exclusive minifgure is a yellow skinned luke skywalker in his tatoonie clothes! brings back memories of the old sets…

  • ninja of stealth March 6, 2014, 11:46 AM

*sniffle* memories… ๐Ÿ™„ okay, I wasn’t really here when the minifigures where like that.

      same ๐Ÿ˜›

      • lego ff March 6, 2014, 5:27 PM

        Me neither!

  • legostuff71 March 6, 2014, 11:48 AM

I have the first one. It was hard to put together because the bags were not numbered. As you can tell the pieces were mostly brown . What a long few days it was for me to put that together. It’s now on my book shelf and that is where it will stay.

    • ninja of stealth March 7, 2014, 12:13 PM

I remember when the old sets didn’t have numbered bags. (now that, I was around for. ๐Ÿ™„ )

      • admin March 7, 2014, 12:28 PM

Well, you can still empty the bags and mix it all up! But for really large sets I wouldn’t do that. Although some people do enjoy picking through a huge pile of LEGO. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • BLProductions March 6, 2014, 12:22 PM

This set looks cool, but I feel like the set is missing some figures. I think the set would be better if it came with the same minifigs as the old one, just updated. I like the new Owen Lars, but I must say, the older Jawas were better. These new ones have no capes! and huge eyes! Not liking them. ๐Ÿ™
    I also don’t think it’s worth $350, maybe $300, but I’m not always accurate. ๐Ÿ˜•
I also may try to get this new book, looks cool. The Republic Gunship is on the front! Yes! ๐Ÿ˜€
Also, Admin, the Ewok Village is $250, not $200. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • admin March 6, 2014, 12:46 PM

Thanks for catching that. Those numbers with the ..9.99s at the end always confuse me. Got it fixed. ๐Ÿ™„

      • ninja of stealth March 7, 2014, 12:15 PM

yeah what’s with the no capes? you see them wearing capes/cloaks in the movie!

        • admin March 7, 2014, 12:29 PM

Actually in the movie the Jawas didn’t have capes. They had full body robes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • BLProductions March 7, 2014, 1:02 PM

Yes, but in LEGO mini capes look good on Jawas. Gives them a robe-ish feel. ๐Ÿ™‚ It would be nice to get mini capes too.

            • admin March 7, 2014, 1:16 PM

I agree; they do look better with capes.

  • ilariel March 6, 2014, 2:33 PM

Well, im still a bit confused, the number of the pic is #75059, so it doenst belong to 10xxx UCS series, or is just that UCS series will change their numbering?

    • admin March 6, 2014, 2:56 PM

Ilariel, this is not considered a UCS set. It is just a large SW set. That’s all. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • ilariel March 6, 2014, 6:30 PM

$300 and is not an UCS set? I dont know any set over 300$ with other numbering than 10xxx. So, im still confused ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • admin March 6, 2014, 8:24 PM

It should be clear soon enough as the set is going to be release in May. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hรฅkan March 6, 2014, 3:56 PM

I saw the video, and all I could think was:

Sandcrawler going, going, approaching end of table…

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • BLProductions March 6, 2014, 4:22 PM

Lol! I saw that to, it was turning, not gonna make it… ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    • admin March 6, 2014, 8:21 PM

LOL! Yeah, I thought of that too! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  • Narrator Bob March 6, 2014, 7:44 PM

I was saving for metalbeard’s sea cow, but I’m not sure what I’ll get now.

    • admin March 6, 2014, 8:29 PM

I would suggest you get what you like the most and what fits in your LEGO collection the best. There are so many awesome LEGO sets, but it is not like we have to get all of them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For example although I’m a huge SW fan, and really like the LEGO SW sets, I never bought any (besides some of the smallest ones). I just know they don’t fit in my building style, and I don’t have room to display them. It’s something I came to peace with, so I’m happy when other people get them and like to talk about them, but I won’t buy them myself.

It is a good idea to make some plans in terms of LEGO purchases. That is why it can be useful to hear what’s coming in the near future. This year I will be getting the Ghostbusters set, all the Mixels and Benny’s Spaceship. Those are my goals. What about yours?

      • ninja of stealth March 7, 2014, 12:21 PM

yeah, star wars sets just don’t fit on my shelf’s, that’s the kind of “fitting” we are talking about… right? ๐Ÿ™„ I mainly have star wars and ninjago.
my goals are to get, well, the battle for ninjago city, some ultra agents sets, the something, something battle charger from ninjago, some star wars sets that I cant think of at the moment. some LEGO movie sets. and yeah, that’s about it

        • admin March 7, 2014, 12:34 PM

Yes, that’s what I mean. Displaying one decent size SW set would use up a goo chunk of my room! It is not easy to display them nicely and I don’t like clutter. I have one LEGO closet and wall with shelves for displaying stuff, and I’m happy with that. When I win the lottery and get a larger house I will have a whole big LEGO room! Well… now that I think about it that would be difficult because I don’t even play the lottery. ๐Ÿ™„

  • Crazybricks March 6, 2014, 9:46 PM

This set looks okey but I will not be getting this set
The Star Wars Visual Dictionary is cool I have the first one and plan to get the new one

this is off topic but does any one know when the next Ninjago episode comes out

  • Meneldur March 7, 2014, 10:13 AM

Like you, I like the new Sandcrawler better than the older version, Admin. LEGO Star Wars sets seem to be getting better every year. More detail. The minifigs just keep getting better also. I love that new Chewbacca.

    • admin March 7, 2014, 12:27 PM

I agree about the minifigs. The printing on them is getting better and better. Also, there is a lot more variation then in the past. If I would be buying LEGO SW, I would be buildling huge armies! ๐Ÿ˜›

  • ninja of stealth March 7, 2014, 12:23 PM

same on the chewy thing your talking about, Chewbacca is WAY better. and the minifigs are definitely getting better! and the sets! LEGO sets just keep getting cooler and cooler! ๐Ÿ˜€

On 25 sec: “To make a new and more accurate UCS sandcrawler”

So looks it will be considered UCS ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • admin March 8, 2014, 2:41 PM

Ilairel, as apparently there has been quite a bit of confusion about the packaging of this set, this is the official statement from LEGO in regards to the status of this set I have received this morning: “Iโ€™ve seen some confusion regarding the packaging update. I hope the below explanation will resolve some of the questions floating around. The decision has been made to change the packaging for future โ€œLEGOยฎ exclusiveโ€ Star Warsโ„ข sets to include the UCS seal and de-link from the core Star Wars packaging. In addition to the packaging change an update has been made to the building instructions. The building instructions will have additional pages detailing the modelโ€™s connection to the movie and its development process. Much as the Creator Expert badge differentiates the larger models from the core assortment the goal of this change is to better communicate to builders that these sets represent our biggest building challenge in the LEGOยฎ Star Warsโ„ข theme.”

      • ilariel March 8, 2014, 6:29 PM

Thanks for share it with us, as UCS collector I found really interesting any information os this kind.

        • admin March 9, 2014, 10:18 AM

You are welcome. BTW, I’m a LEGO Ambassador, so if members from our community have questions or requests I have direct access to the right persons at LEGO, so don’t be shy to ask. ๐Ÿ˜‰

wow thats so cool have you met any lego creators can you ask lego to make a small lego movie set with benny i really like him and i dont think im ever gonna get $100 ๐Ÿ˜

    • admin March 10, 2014, 1:17 PM

Benny in a smaller set is a great idea that I’m sure a lot of people would be happy about. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • lego trooper 91 March 9, 2014, 10:04 PM

btw TLM is the best movie ever you have to see it if you want to live (not really ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
