LEGO Friends mini-dolls to minifigs conversion

As you probably know already LEGO Friends has become a huge hit, and it looks like the line is here to stay for the long-term for the pleasure of little girls and adult LEGO fans alike. The LEGO Friends sets are very sweet and offer a great range of interesting colors, cute animals and lots of new minifigure accessories, even for those who are not into LEGO Friends. I personally really like the mini-dolls too and collect them, however I also understand the complaint of those who would have preferred to have regular LEGO minifigures to fit into the rest of the LEGO system.

Although LEGO Friends mini-dolls are just a tad taller than regular LEGO minifigures and their hair-pieces, other head-gear and accessories are interchangeable with regular LEGO minifigs, their proportions are totally different and their body-parts cannot be mixed and matched with regular LEGO minifigs.

Would it be possible to keep the girly cuteness of the LEGO Friends mini-dolls and mix it with the just as cute – but in a different way – regular LEGO minifigs? Well, the only way to find out is to try! And this is exactly what LEGO fan Dorayakiameri from Taiwan has done. Check out this cartoon introducing the transformed LEGO Friends characters.

Dorayakiameri took the time to minifigure-ize all of the LEGO Friends main characters using decals: Stephanie, Emma, Andrea, Mia and Olivia, and even Ms. Stevens. Aren’t they adorable? 🙄

    uh… okay…

  • Strider April 5, 2014, 11:14 AM

Wow, these are just as girly and I think it would almost have been better if Lego had kept to the original minifigure shape.

    • ninja of stealth April 7, 2014, 12:25 PM

same here, mini-dolls (or as I like to call them, slender figures.) are, well, creepy. (another creepy thing is that there is three of them in the house, in my sisters room, which is technically mine two because we have to share a room, and I could go on how creepy they are, but I’m not… 😮 )

  • Lorca Strand April 5, 2014, 1:04 PM

Ms Stevens looks nice! But the other minifigure-ized Friends are just…creepy.

    • admin April 5, 2014, 1:48 PM

Hm… I find them really cute. But I guess we just have different tastes, which is perfectly fine. I also like the mini-dolls, so for me either way is fine. 😛

In my opinion the one with light brown hair and the black hair are just look devious. Ms. Stevens I don’t know what here minidoll version looks like but that one just looks great if that were printing I would want the shirt

I have absolutely no problem with he whole friends range and my daughter is a big fan of it (and of the ‘normal’ Lego too). I have to admit though that I really like these and think that my daughter would like these as much ass he likes the real friends. Seeing these I would have preferred these over the actual minifigs.

  • Majestic Kai Fan April 5, 2014, 4:22 PM

I’m pretty sure Kai would not date anyone from outside Ninjago 🙁

    • Dorayaki May 28, 2014, 3:39 AM

Well many fanarts would like to have their OCs date him, so this crossover is at least acceptable for LEGO purists :p.

  • BLProductions April 5, 2014, 8:34 PM

Uhh… Ok, (and not to be offensive) I personally disliked the friends figures from the start, but also thought that any minifig friends people would be a disgrace to my Lego population. I think he did a good job putting them into minifigure form, though, but I think Lego should stick w/ the dolls. 😐
However, there are actually 3 Friends sets I am considering getting, for pieces only. I really like the different shades 😀

    • admin April 6, 2014, 10:25 AM

Yeah, the colors in the Friends sets are very nice. Also, there are many printed parts, animals, and minifig accessories that are great for regular minifigs too.

  • Kim April 6, 2014, 1:23 AM

Interesting….I have only wanted friends for parts myself as well though I don’t have any particular negative feeling toward the series. Question though. Are the hair pieces they used still the friend hair pieces, as in, those pieces can work on normal minifigures or did they make custom hair similar to friends but sized to fit on a regular minifig? I’m hoping the former because I would love to get some different female hairstyles.

    • Håkan April 6, 2014, 10:01 AM

Yes, Friends hairpieces and headgear are compatible with regular minifigs (as well as Friends tools and utensils, naturally). Otherwise, compatibility is fairly minimal…

    • admin April 6, 2014, 10:28 AM

Kim, those are actual LEGO Friends hairpieces. They are fully compatible with regular LEGO minifigs, and also LEGO Friends minifigs can wear pretty much any regular LEGO hair/helmet. In otherwords the hair/helmet pieces are fully compatible between regular minifigs and LEGO Friends minifigs.

      • Kim April 6, 2014, 1:20 PM

Awesome! I’m gonna have to get some of these!

  • krono111 April 6, 2014, 3:21 AM

I don’t like the mini Dolls but there hairpieces are amazing.

    • Strider April 6, 2014, 9:17 PM

      Same here.

  • Ray April 7, 2014, 11:06 AM

Honestly I like the proportions of the minidolls and I would not complain at all if they spread to one of the boys-oriented lines in the future.

    • Diamond655 January 12, 2015, 5:32 PM

I think they made this “mini-dolls” because it would help girls who have been playing with dollhouses for most of their life adapt to LEGO, but boys, they wouldn’t like the theme and just go mind their own business at other themes, even if they liked the general idea.

  • ninja of stealth April 7, 2014, 12:20 PM

AHHH! KAI SAVE YOURSELF AND RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • mollygunn June 27, 2014, 1:35 PM

hey ninja of stealth got a song for you here go,s kai and emma sitting in a tree K.I.S.S.I.N.G.HE HE HE!:p

  • Beardless Dwarf April 8, 2014, 11:47 AM

Cool idea! My problem with the Minidolls is that the features are actually molded pieces (nose, shoes etc) so it’s kind of difficult to customize. That and I prefer traditional minifigures =P

  • ninjagofan April 8, 2014, 10:48 PM

ok,so emma dating kai ?!?!?!? so not cool.even the idea of the regular minifuigure emma creeps me out ..(seriously even my brother tought it was weird) but…. if in the video emma was with jay, at least my brother would be happy ( at home me and him use lego friends and ninjago to play and emma and jay are together) so (changing subject here) when is lego ninjago season 4 episode 29 is coming ? me and my bro says maybe next week … somehow I know because on youtube me and him found lego ninjago season 4 episode 29 but in japenese . hope im right …. : )

    • Dorayaki May 26, 2014, 4:20 AM

The main reason I did so was that Emma had interests in martial arts. However she also has some admiration for her martial teacher, so it may be a different canon. 😛

  • mollygunn July 9, 2014, 10:31 PM

i ginda dont mind them there OK i guess.but im a SUPER big fan of them so im gonna try to get most of the sets for my birthdays.

  • jjava November 22, 2014, 5:48 AM

The minifigs are so much better. I don’t like the minidolls at all. That’s how I landed on this page. Now I can transform them and put the minidolls body parts away!

    • admin November 22, 2014, 4:32 PM

I’m glad you found it helpful! You can always trade the minidoll parts or sell them on the secondary market. There are lots of LEGO fans who really like them, so it is a win-win for everyone. 😉

  • Brick Flicks December 17, 2014, 12:28 PM

I am NOT a fan of the minifigure idea… I LOVE the minidolls!! though it’s a cute idea, I like the minidolls WAY better

    • Dorayaki February 2, 2015, 11:48 PM

It’s okay. I think minidolls have been improving after LEGO add new themes Disney and Elves with diversible characters to this line, and they indeed work very well, or even better than minifigures. Still, the project was meant to leave a choice for the mainstream FOLs who usually prefer to play with standard figures, and to give LEGO a sign that Friends could have a spot in the minifigure world.

  • Jody January 13, 2015, 1:39 AM

I love the girly mini figures. I wish Lego would offer these. I refuse to buy Lego Friends because I don’t like the policy of separating the “girl’s line” from Lego mainstream. I also think that the Friends line does not use enough building, it has too many large pre-made pieces. I prefer the old Paradisa line, which had girl-friendly colors and themes but with plenty of building and standard mini-figures. I would definitely buy products aimed at girls with standard mini-figures.

    • Dorayaki February 2, 2015, 11:53 PM

Generally, even without the figures, I believe that the eartlake buildings do somewhat appeal old Paradisa FOLs. I think the change of figures doesn’t deprive the charm of the theme. Even if you’re not able to make Friends minifigures, you may simply change them with the regular minifigures from other themes you like.

So nice to have you over here! Love your conversion! Super cute! 😛
