One interesting LEGO theme coming out this summer is LEGO Ultra Agents, which supposed to be a continuation of the previous LEGO Agents theme from 2008/9. We have talked about the sets before when they were first revealed at the toy fairs earlier this year, however now that official set pictures have been posted by Amazon, it is worth discussing them again. 🙂

#70165 LEGO Ultra Agents

I personally really liked the first wave of the LEGO Agents sets. It had a really sweet color-scheme of dark-blue and yellow for the good guys and orange and black for the bad guys. The vehicles were excellent and there was a lot of play-value in each of the sets. The new LEGO Ultra Agents seem a bit confusing to me. The black and trans-blue vehicles are nice, but some of the other sets don’t seem to belong to the theme at all and more look like something out of LEGO Legends of Chima

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Ultra Agents sets? Do you have a favorite? Is this a theme you are looking forward to, or are you planning to pass? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

No female figs unless you buy the big sets? I call BS on that.

    • admin April 10, 2014, 10:58 AM

These sets are really not geared at girls. They are definitely boys’ toys. Not that girls can’t like them, and I’m sure there are some who do, but from all LEGO themes I think this is going to be one of the least interesting to girls. So I would say it makes sense that most of the characters are guys in this line.

Little boys don’t care for girl characters. I just experienced that. My brother was here with his three boys (he also has a girl) and they dove right into my LEGO. They picked their characters, built their armies, and there was not a single female minifig they were interested in. Their age group (4-8 year old boys) are just not interested in females. This is natural development. They will have plenty of interest in girls later. Maybe even a bit too much.

However if you are looking forward to this theme and would like to get some of the sets, you can very easily include your own female heroes by simply changing the hair and head pieces. That’s the beauty of LEGO; you can do whatever you want with it. 😉

      • RustyPatti April 10, 2014, 11:18 AM

As an elementary school educator who includes LEGO play as a weekly activity for all my students I can tell you that the girls and boys in my 2nd grade class would love these sets and the first question the girls would ask is “where are the girl figures?”

The problem is branding these as “boy” sets. Excluding girls from the packaging is an explicit message that girls should go play with something else. LEGO is a great way to get kids into STEM (that’s one reason I include it) and it’s more important than ever that girls NOT be told – “you’re not welcome, here.”

        • admin April 10, 2014, 11:34 AM

RustyPatty, I understand that gender and race are sensitive subject, however with LEGO you can easily get LEGO hair and head pieces in bulk and make minifigs whatever gender or race kids in your class would like to play with. It is really not that hard.

LEGO has plenty of gender-neutral and educational sets to choose from. In addition to those there are also sets that are more geared towards boys and sets more geared towards girls. As Strider has pointed out; LEGO Friends sets have very few boys, because they are designed for girls.

There is time to be sensitive to gender equality, and there is also time when we just have to let our girls to be girls and allow them to play with girly toys, and boys to be boys and allow them to have their very own boy toys. Otherwise we will end up with a homogeneous population who is completely confused about their gender (already happening).

We should celebrate and respect our equality, but so should we also celebrate and respect our differences.Sometimes boys need to be on their own and be allowed to close the door to their mancave and say “girls are not welcome here”. And girls also need girl-time with no boys around. This is natural.

For a classroom setting probably the most appropriate sets are from the LEGO Creator and LEGO City themes. They are educational, creative, and they have minifigs of both genders pretty much equally distributed. I wouldn’t really bring LEGO Agents to a classroom. It is all about blowing up the badguys – something little boys like to do in their free time, but it is not a particularly educational material. 😀

          • RustyPatti April 10, 2014, 4:29 PM

There is never a time or a place for sexism. I doubt we’ll ever agree on this. Moving on.

            • Strider April 11, 2014, 12:25 PM

Lego isn’t setting boundaries. It is reacting to reactions, those of boys and girls. Boys like this stuff more, not because they are boys and we say so, but they have shown us firsthand ;). Lego is not sexist because they do not take extreme care to include an equal amount of boys and girls in a theme that boys like more. Sure, your class has a problem, but it shouldn’t be fixed with Lego putting extra girl minifigures in when the majority would rather have a guy. Lego is not sexist, you are the one who are setting boundaries. I mean, girls should make their own choice, not be forced to avoid girl toys that are, “sexist.” And look around a bit, there are many franchises with tough girl characters. I mean to me, the world is flooded with them.

              • admin April 11, 2014, 1:18 PM

Studying children is actually so interesting. As I have mentioned my brother has four kids; 3 boys (8, 6, and 4-year old) and a 2-year-old girl. That little girl is so adorable. She was girly from the time she was born, even with three brothers around her. Her brothers are looking at her with complete awe and curiosity as she cuddles teddy bears (the boys never paid attention to stuffed animals), and likes to play dress-up with her brothers’ action figures. She hasn’t been going to kindergarten yet and doesn’t get much outside influence so her girly nature is all her own. Such a little princess! 😛

                • Strider April 11, 2014, 4:27 PM

Your telling me :P. Just this morning I had to wake up early and hold my one year old brother because he was crying. They can drive you crazy, but they are funny.

                  • admin April 11, 2014, 5:15 PM

Just wait until he is four. That’s when the real fun begins! They are growing out of the baby-stuff and starting to be little people with fun ideas and great questions. 😀

                    • Strider April 12, 2014, 10:11 AM

                      Yeah :).

        • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:35 AM

OK. That does make sense, if you have a group of girls who want minifigures. I was looking at it from the perspective of you alone. But again…durh these things are so hard to keep from getting to insult level :P.

        • xj550 April 10, 2014, 3:20 PM

I agree with you RustyPatti about there needed to be girls in sets, but I think this theme is a bit more appealing to boys. The city theme sets have been pretty good about including more girl minifigs.

      • Lady Bricks April 10, 2014, 3:16 PM

Look closer- Toxikita is definitely female.

    • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:16 AM

Well, if you like, you can always use some creativity and add in your own girl minifigures. Or you can stop taking stuff like this as an insult, their aren’t many boys in LEGO Friends.

      • Håkan April 10, 2014, 11:25 AM

Two wrongs don’t make one right.

The under-representation is a problem, either way.

A female battle-pack would be interesting to see, but I fear that it isn’t commercially viable. Whenever I visit a Pick-A-Brick, I tend to pick up almost exclusively female minifigs, aiming for a large variety in expressions.

For the sets itself, I find the color schemes generally too dark, the only set I find interesting part-wise is Toxikita’s Toxic City Meltdown. A mashup with Friends parts and colors might be interesting. Alas, most of those sets are over my budget.

        • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:40 AM

I wasn’t saying it was bad that boys are not included in Lego friends, (THEY’RE FRICKIN’ CREEPY !!) though I did not make that clear. Yes, if you are coming from RP’s side, the problem stands. Too dark? I love dark tones with red or blue or white, to get that dark futuristic sci fi sort of feel.

          • admin April 10, 2014, 11:50 AM

Blacktron was one of the most popular LEGO themes ever. All black with some yellow. It was beautiful…

            • Håkan April 10, 2014, 11:53 AM

              Ah, valid point!

I just personally find black overused, black isn’t the new black anymore… 😉

              • admin April 10, 2014, 12:13 PM

Black LEGO is really awesome. It is so shiny! I don’t think any of the other colors shine as much as black. 😛

            • Strider April 10, 2014, 12:11 PM

Yeah…(sigh…) And to me black is still the new black :). But maybe after black is not the new black black will be the new black like it was before it was not the new black.

            • Chris April 12, 2014, 5:56 PM

I love blacktron and lego space so much. Old is gold.
Lego was better back then. You know what? Today I’ll send lego a letter about what happend to there space things. I’ll tell you guys what they said to me. 🙂

      • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:26 AM

Sorry Admin I commented before I read your last paragraph. And yeah, even though I like girl Lego people for making versions of characters from shows and movies, and having a realistic variety, generally boys don’t really enjoy girl Lego people. And it is not Lego’s fault that they don’t include much girls, as much different industries fault. (But I don’t think there is a problem.) I mean if James Bond was a girl, this might be different. If agent shows revolved around girls shooting people as much as men, these Lego sets might be different. And if girls showed just as much of a natural liking to this stuff as boys do, it would probably be different. But you can’t blame Lego for siding with plain facts that have stood for decades. And they include a girl for the portion of females who do want it. I understand your predicament, at least where you are coming from, but it just makes more sense to me to do it the way Lego is doing it now. And maybe that will change one day. (I’m not going to delve into my personal opinion much because I don’t feel the need to argue…again :P.) No hard feeligs, just my thinking on the subject.

        • Håkan April 10, 2014, 11:51 AM

But female agents are awesome! =D

Modesty Blaise, Emma Peel, Black Widow, Mata Hari, Veronica Mars, Lisbeth Salander, Joanna Dark, Agent 99…

(although some of these may qualify better than others…)

          • Strider April 10, 2014, 12:14 PM

Yeah, (Wyldstyle tops them all,) but they are not really my thing. No offense to any female agents around here…..

          • admin April 10, 2014, 12:14 PM

Adult guys like female superheroes. Especially in black PVC outfits. 😛

            • Håkan April 10, 2014, 12:39 PM

              I’m 33…

              • Bohrok Tru April 10, 2014, 2:21 PM

Hey, I’m still a youngster, and I like girls in black PVC suits ;P

  • LK901 April 10, 2014, 11:19 AM

I might get something if my wallet isn’t empty by the time I’m finished with TLM and Ninjago, oh and there’s Pirates for 2015, so maybe not 😛

Are you going to post something about that, @Admin?

    • admin April 10, 2014, 11:40 AM

Post about the upcoming pirates? Yes, I have it on my to-do list. 😛

  • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:28 AM

These minifigures = awesome! Ecspecially the ones in suits! It’s like sci-fi James Bond sort of stuff! I am planning to get a lot of these…that flame badguy would make a totally wicked Lego fantasy monster, in stopmotion or a Lego RPG or whatever.

  • Strider April 10, 2014, 11:31 AM

WHAT!!! Solomon Blaze looks a lot like Peter Capaldi! If I get his hair and suit I could make the twelth doctor pretty good…

    • TheChosenMinifigure April 12, 2014, 2:35 AM

      Finally, someone voices my thoughts.
I knew someone would say that!

      • Strider April 12, 2014, 11:04 AM

We arethe only ones who care about what matters…;P. Nice to meet another Doctor Who fan. Now if only they had one that looked like Clara…one for the Whovians and one for the anti sexism people on here. No offense, but it would make a lot of people happy…

        • Strider April 12, 2014, 11:05 AM

I might as well say that I was actually really surprised to see your comment :D.

  • shrunkin April 10, 2014, 11:41 AM

Ultra Agents looks really cool. villains look more super powered than the first Agents sets

  • Shade Snake April 10, 2014, 11:42 AM

    Love the lightcycle!

  • legostuff71 April 10, 2014, 11:55 AM

Why does LEGO do this to me? I mean, I ‘m going to be over run by LEGO and then I’ll be homeless. That’s It ” Hi, I ‘m legostuff71 and I am addicted to LEGO”.

    • admin April 10, 2014, 12:12 PM

You can build a house for yourself from LEGO. If you are having problems with LEGO addiction I can help you out and will take all your LEGO off your hands. Will take good care of it too. 🙄

  • HP April 10, 2014, 12:07 PM

It’s worthy to note that Professor Christina Hydron looks a lot like Simmons from Agents of Shield somehow.

  • Lorca Strand April 10, 2014, 12:13 PM

Wasn’t Solomon Blaze part of Galaxy Squad?

    • Strider April 10, 2014, 12:16 PM

I believe so. I was thinking the same thing, I wonder whats up? Oh well, there’s nothing wrong with having to make an awesome backstory that explains everything :D.

    • BLProductions April 10, 2014, 3:58 PM

Yes, he was one of the blue guys, with the robot and Max Solarflare. I thought the same thing when I saw that, guess he likes high-tech stuff. 😉 I still want some Galaxy Squad, but can’t afford it. 🙁

  • NinjagoNerd36 April 10, 2014, 12:21 PM

These are amazing! I am completely blown away by how cool some of these sets look. I wish they included Agent Chase though. I highly doubt I will have any money left in my wallet when these come out!

  • legostuff71 April 10, 2014, 12:46 PM

NO , NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! At least this addiction won’t kill me. I always thought LEGO is a lot like jello there is always room for it.

    • admin April 10, 2014, 2:34 PM

LOL! But just in case, I’m here to help you out, totally selflessly. 😉

  • CaptainChespin April 10, 2014, 1:16 PM

Those sets look AWESOME! I will definitely be getting some! 😀

  • Brick addict April 10, 2014, 1:58 PM

im for sure getting a few of these especially the car!

  • Kim April 10, 2014, 2:17 PM

These are actually pretty cool. I usually don’t stray much outside of traditional themes, but I might actually get some of these. Not sure I’ll keep the crazy vehicles but I could see using some of the stuff to create an interesting agents part of my own set up and story line. And with more females…..=P

    • Kim April 10, 2014, 2:18 PM

One could easily make them S.H.I.E.L.D agents ad use them with the Marvel sets as well.

  • Bohrok Tru April 10, 2014, 2:24 PM

ok, that Inferno-ish-looking badguy is awesome…. like.. I spend just 5 minutes drooling on my keyboard at his getup with the jet-board. Then an additional 5 minutes staring at the vehicle that the agent is driving…. that thing has so many EPIC possibilities….. like… my fingers are tingling at the thoutgh of building it (then dissasembling it and making a better version of it =))

    • admin April 10, 2014, 2:33 PM

      Yeah, exciting, isn’t it? 😀

  • SuperSpyX April 10, 2014, 3:25 PM

I see a lot of Tron and Blade Runner influence here. The sets are pretty awesome, I’m planning to get most of them. Hurricane Mech=lots of yummy olive green! A lot of nice minifigure and trans parts too.

  • BLProductions April 10, 2014, 3:53 PM

These sets are awesome!! 😀 I wasn’t around in the Lego community for the first Agents, so I can’t say which is better.
Moment I saw it I wanted the Hurricane Heist! The olive green, the technic parts, the Agent’s bike (which kinda transforms along the lines of Eglor’s Twin Bike from Chima). 🙂 Also might get the riverside raid for the agent. But some of these figures need double-sided heads. 😕
I wish I could call more, but my brothers want some, and the Gunship is still calling me. 😉

  • Majestic Kai Fan April 10, 2014, 4:16 PM

Inferno interception looks a lot like the cars from TRON: Legacy

    • CaptainChespin April 10, 2014, 6:13 PM

I was thinking that too! XD 😛 😀

  • ninja of stealth April 11, 2014, 12:05 PM

that’s how my sister knew… (long story.) I’m definitely getting the inferno interception! SO SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey. I have a question that somebody probably already asked but when are these coming out? summer?
and another thing, Ninjago! five more days left!!!!!!!!!!!

  • samuel April 11, 2014, 1:45 PM

the car in the inferno set looks like something out of tron.

    • ninja of stealth April 13, 2014, 2:17 AM

yeah it does, but its so AWESOME!

  • Carbo April 11, 2014, 3:56 PM

These sets look amazing!! My favorite is the Tremor Track Infiltration, because it comes with my favorite agent and villain. Tremor is just awesome! My second favorite set is Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown. I’m mostly interested in the villains. My brother and I would split it- I would get the villains and their helicopter and my brother gets the rest. Toxikita is my second favorite Agents villain. She looks like she could kick some agent butt!! 😀

    • admin April 11, 2014, 5:13 PM

I like the Toxic Meltdown thingy too. Great colors, nice design, awesome badguys! 😈

  • ninja of stealth April 13, 2014, 2:19 AM

too bad there are none of the old minifigures in ultra agent like agent chase. but the cool thing is Solomon Blaze is in it and that minifigure is from the galaxy squad! (and that theme is AWESOME!)

  • JayVendetta April 15, 2014, 11:36 AM

Know what stinks? Prices. Suddenly, they just seemed to go up. It’s weird how this stuff works. Lego has always been quite expensive, though.

ANYWAY! My moc is not really going as planned and I may need to make a better base. The VIP thing seems cool, as well as this new Ultra Agents. It’s nice to have a good community of Lego fans. Anyone going to Brickcon? I am most likely not ( wish I could), but will anyone tell me how it goes after?

Excited for summer( I’m on a late Easter break still

    • admin April 15, 2014, 3:13 PM

I don’t think prices are up. The 10 cents per piece rule has been applying to LEGO for quite some time now and it haven’t changed, except on the licensed sets. I will probably write an update about BrickCon with some video-footage. 🙂

  • Parker grassle April 16, 2014, 12:12 AM

I would like the LEGO Agents Infearno Interception and the mission HQ. Or any of them but it depends on how much money I can make before the sets I already want get discontinued.
