BrickWorld Chicago coming this weekend!

Just a quick reminder that BrickWorld Chicago is this weekend, so if you live or visit in the area make sure you attend! BrickWorld Chicago is one of the largest LEGO fan events in the county with LEGO fans coming from around the world. The LEGO displays are amazing, and there are plenty of activities to participate in for all age-groups. Below are the details. 🙂

There are plenty of activities both on the AFOL days and on the public days; presentations, games, building events, contests, etc. You can see the entire schedule here. Also, if you have never attended a BrickWorld event before, watch the video below to get an idea on what to expect.

Also, Joshua Hanlon and Matthew Kay from Beyond the Brick will be on site to film all the action; including builder interviews and a walkthrough of the entire display. If you’d like to get a copy of the DVD go support their Kickstarter project. $20 is all it takes to secure your copy of the DVD, and larger pledges will also get you some sweet extra rewards.

LEGO’s own representatives will be at the event, along with practically every famous LEGO builder who’s creations you have likely only seen online. This is a great occasion not just to see some of the best LEGO creations, but also to make friends with other LEGO fans and get inspired! You may even come up with ideas for future co-created displays!

Will the same stuff be at both Chicago and Fort Wayne? Also, first comment!

That’s a good question. I would say yes and no. Some LEGO fans travel to several shows to display their creations, but most of them are going to be from the local area. So each show is going to be different. As far as activities, they are likely to be the same or similar. Also, many of the vendors try to go to all of the shows, but some of them can’t. Chicago is one of the oldest and most established LEGO shows, so both displayers and vendors prepare for it for a long time and make sure they have the best stuff. This event is BIG! 😛

There will be news about all the LEGO universe (new sets or new episodes ……) or it´s just a building event with guests in it…

It’s a huge LEGO convention with everything; presentations, discussions, games, vendors, rumors, displays and more – everything that is naturally part of such a large event. LEGO’s own representatives are also there, and yes, sometimes they do reveal new sets.

wow, that first photo was really cool! I wish I could build like that, or at least have that many pieces. 🙄

I would love to go. So much cool stuff there. Crazy bricks will be there. So will Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson games. SJ games makes Munckin card game. Crazy Bricks has a kickstarter for pieces for the game.

I wish they’d have one of these near where I live, like New Jersey. 😕

Off-topic, but I just watched the Desolation of Smaug (finally!), and I am … disappointed. I mean, sure it follows the storyline in the basics, but the extras (i.e. Azog, Legolas, Kili’s wound) are annoying. And my dad has to disagree with me on everything! 😡 I don’t care how boring it would be, it could be more accurate! 😕

Yeah, it could be a closer interpretation, but for people who aren’t hardcore fans who have read the book, they might need some extra intrigue for such a long film. For the main part, I think things were added to the film, not taken away. And Azog is mentioned in some part of middle earth history so he is real even if he wasn’t around in the original. Legolas also could have been there, but maybe Tolkien hadn’t thought up the character. Peter Jackson probably wanted ties to the original Trilogy, again to keep the majority of views interested.

The movie wouldn’t be so long if he hadn’t added so much extra stuff. Azog was a real goblin, he killed Thror in Moria, but he was dead before The Hobbit took place. In the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, Thrain or Thorin (I can’t recall which) killed Azog. This took place about 91 years before Bilbo was born.
I am glad they put Bolg (son of Azog) in the movie, but at the wrong time. He only appeared in the Battle of Five Armies.
Legolas is actually mentioned in the Hobbit, as Son of Thranduil, but does not make an appearance. Also, the elves capture Thorin first, inquire him politely, then jail him, treating him with kindness. The Elvenking is not a mean person, though he does like gems.
And Peter Jackson’s ties to LotR are confusing people who are ignorant to the book, and I think the 3 movies is another tie.
Excuse my ranting, but this movie falls short in my opinion. 😉

I really think that The Hobbit should have been one movie and not drawn out to three. I absolutely love the LOTR movies, and watched them many times. I think they are some of the best movies of all times. The Hobbit movies on the other hand don’t carry the same effect. They are way too long, and no matter how much I want to like them, I find them boring, drawn out and the characters hollow. It is sad, but I will not watch either of The Hobbit movies again. It would have made another epic film as one episode, but over-extended like this it lost the magic…

      • BLProductions June 12, 2014, 9:39 AM

I agree. I used to think the LotR movies were bad, but the Hobbit movies change that view. And from a movie-only perspective, they were great movies, and not boring, like the book.
My dad argues that it is impossible to make it one movie, but if PJ followed only the Hobbit, it would be short enough.
I can’t say the movies were boring, more like disgusting, but it has lost the magic in three. Two would have been fine. 😕
