LEGO Friends Jungle sets & more!

The LEGO Friends Jungle sets are finally going to be available at the Online LEGO Shop on August 1st. I’m not sure what caused the delay as the sets have been readily available at various retailers for quite some time, but anyhow, better later than never. These new sets explore an exciting sub-story of LEGO Friends, where the girls are headed to the jungle! 🙂

Although I dislike the show, some of these sets are pretty useful in terms of parts. For me, I’m going to get the Bridge Rescue, b/c it comes with 5 AT-TE hinges ( https://brickset.com/parts/6028812 ) and that rubber roof in Light Grey (I need that part).
Also, Series 12 CMF pic: https://brickset.com/article/11891/cmf-series-12-line-up . I MUST get some of these; I still have zero CMFs. 🙁

Whoops, sorry admin. I forgot the 2 links rule. 😉

      • admin July 27, 2014, 11:29 AM

No problem, had it approved. BTW, it is not a rule, it is a safety precaution to make sure badguys don’t leave links to content we don’t want to see here. 😉

  • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 11:17 AM

Admin, when I was on Brickset I saw the Shell Collab Lego Line. At the end Huw mentioned to not talk about “The Greanpeace issue”. Will we get a discussion post for that here? Or is it too sensitive of a topic?

    • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 11:18 AM

Okay so my comment is awaiting moderation, so i guess that means no?

      • admin July 27, 2014, 11:41 AM

I had your comment approved. Moderation is an automatic process to keep our community safe when I’m not around. It is triggered by certain words and other parameters. It is done a program, not me. Basically the program flags a comment and wants me to check on it before it gets approved. I’m quite liberal and will approve all comments, even if I don’t agree with them, or they are silly, or somewhat off-topic. The exception are personal attacks towards other members and foul language. Those don’t belong to our community. LEGO fans are better than that. 😉

      • BLProductions July 27, 2014, 6:31 PM

Maybe it means the Moderation filter doesn’t like Greenpeace. 😉

    • admin July 27, 2014, 11:35 AM

GreenPeace actually contacted me in hope that I will promote their cause. After discussing some with their rep, I politely declined. I believe environmental issues are important, but how they are going about it is just wrong. Bullying someone (in this case LEGO) is never right, not even for a good cause. I might however write an article about using LEGO for political agendas by environmentalists, feminists, and religious fanatics. 😉

      • Håkan July 27, 2014, 11:46 AM

I’d be interested in learning about MOC’s with a political agenda.

(…unless that last bit was mere sarcasm…)

        • admin July 27, 2014, 11:54 AM

LOL! I didn’t mean it that way, but that would be fun too! I meant using The LEGO Group’s popularity and wholesome image for pushing the causes of those groups – usually without LEGO’s consent and approval (like what GreenPeace is doing). But, yeah, political MOCs could be an interesting topic. I’m aware of some very controversial MOCs related to the Bible, Hitler, concentration camps, terrorists, and BDSM. Most of these would not be appropriate for a family-friendly website, although I did talk about the LEGO Bible MOCs and the related book before.

          • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 4:27 PM

Greenpeace people sent you an email from their computer, made of plastic, which is made from oil.

            • admin July 27, 2014, 5:18 PM

Yeah, that’s true. However for fairness’ sake, they are not saying we should not use oil at all. What they are against is drilling in the Arctic and other fragile areas where the harm created by oil companies is far reaching and dangerous for all of life on this planet.

              • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 5:26 PM

Has LEGO actually included the Shell brand logo on any products recently? The Lego set that the Greenpeace people put on their website to show that Lego promotes Shell was from the 80s or 90s.

                • admin July 27, 2014, 6:40 PM

LEGO recently had a collaboration with Ferrari – you know, those little polybags that are only available in Asia at gas stations. I believe there were 6-7 sets in the series. I wrote about them a while back, but I can’t remember all the details. You can use the search-box and type in Ferrari to find the article. I think the little sets may have made it to Europe by now also. Although it is a relationship with Ferrari, some of the little race-cars do have a tiny Shell logo because Ferrari is sponsored by Shell. That’s what those GreenPeace folks are talking about, although they are blowing it way out of proportion and their numbers are way off.

                  • Håkan July 28, 2014, 4:16 AM

I recall something about Lego making a deal with Shell so customers got a promotional set for buying a certain amount of liters or gallons or something. Some marketing trick to increase sales…

                    • admin July 28, 2014, 10:03 AM

Yes, that could have been it, although I really don’t know the details of the promotion.

              • BLProductions July 27, 2014, 6:29 PM

Please do not remind me of the debate on Brickset Forum over this. But I will say this: I do think it is a bad idea to drill in the Arctic, but I am against drilling anywhere. It’s not entirely necessary. If we could come up with a different way to run cars, they wouldn’t have to drill so much. Of course, my ideas seem to require highly-explosive ion fuel, which is rather hard to come by. 😆

                • admin July 27, 2014, 6:41 PM

I always wanted to put a solar-panel on top of my car. It is so sunny here in Florida it should work. Plus I ride my bike all the time and only drive when I have to go long distance. It is more healthy and more interesting. 😀

                  • BLProductions July 27, 2014, 8:32 PM

Yes, riding bikes is better. 🙂
The only problem with solar panels is that just one doesn’t absorb enough energy to power a car. Now, if you made a charger, and the panel charged a battery, then a car would have some power. 😉

                    • admin July 27, 2014, 8:40 PM

We did exactly that when we lived up in the mountains of New Mexico in a travel-trailer; put a couple of solar-panels on top, installed some batteries and we were set to go or stay anywhere. The batteries powered heating, light, the AC, the water-pump, and the fridge. And we had gas for cooking. Loved that travel-trailer! It had the best oven I ever used for baking! 🙂

      • Kim July 27, 2014, 8:09 PM

Yeah. I ended up not being in support of the cause because they’re ending up giving LEGO all the heat instead of Shell. Also because I went to one of their German sites and translated it and they had a picture of a supposedly legit “Shell” set (though it actually looked kind of wonky and nothing of the level of quality that Lego puts out) and I looked up the set number on Brickset and it belonged to a completely different set. When I saw that obvious dishonestly, I became uninterested in their message.

        • admin July 27, 2014, 8:37 PM

Yeah, that was my impression as well. It is a shame that they had to resort to such tactics as the concern for Arctic drilling is an important issue. I did ask the person who contacted me from their organization why don’t they just reach out to LEGO and discuss the issue instead of attacking them. LEGO does care for the environment. They have demonstrated that many times. She never responsed to that question. Really sad…

          • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 8:48 PM

I guess you can count the Cars 2 oil rig set and if I remember correctly City had an oil tanker, or something that could easily be converted into one.

Question: If oil comes from dinosaurs, and plastic comes from oil, and toy dinosaurs come from plastic, are toy dinosaurs made from real dinosaurs?

            • admin July 27, 2014, 8:51 PM

That’s a reasonable train of thought. From now on I’m going to say that my LEGO is made of dinosaurs, and so is pretty much everything else around me. I always knew that dinosaurs weren’t extinct!

              • Superweapon July 27, 2014, 10:17 PM

Well, I guess I got that discussion post I wanted.

                • Håkan July 28, 2014, 11:00 AM

On a related note, the smaller dinosaurs evolved into birds.

                  • admin July 28, 2014, 11:01 AM

Oh, so hummingbirds were very-very-very small dinos? Cute! I wan’t one!

                    • Håkan July 29, 2014, 5:43 AM

                      More or less…

            • BLProductions July 28, 2014, 2:41 PM

              Wait, oil comes from dinosaurs?
I think I should know that, since dinosaurs were all I cared for until about 2010 (when I started caring more about my LEGO 🙂 ). 😕

  • Andy at www.smallplasticbricks.com July 28, 2014, 12:02 PM

I would get these for the animals for my zoo if they didn’t all have holes in the tops of their heads for accessories. 🙁

    • admin July 28, 2014, 1:38 PM

I know. Those wholes are a bit annoying. I actually don’t know any pet owners who put cute bows on all of their pets. But eventually I learned to ignore them, just like the whole on the friends hair pieces, holes on LEGO turbants and caps, etc.
