LEGO Customizer BrickForge Mega Update

(Written by ninja5)

One of our most favorite LEGO customizers is BrickForge.com, and since we haven’t done an update on them for a while, it is time to take a look at their new items and current specials. A lot has been going on over at the Forge, so let’s take a look at what’s new.

Custom LEGO by BrickForge Rigged Wave 3

Custom LEGO RiGGED Accessories – Wave 3: The final wave of the WWII RiGGED products was released a while ago, but since they have not been mentioned here as of yet, I thought it was a good idea to have them covered. RiGGED is a modular system of custom LEGO accessories by BrickForge that can be mixed and matched in many different ways (see links at the end of this post for more info). This latest wave has the bonus/accessory trooper type stuff (Sergeant, Medic, and Soldier with Flamethrower). A lot of the new accessories are actually re-colored pieces from previous releases, but there are a few new ones also. In addition, there was a huge restock of all the pieces in grays and blacks in late November. The new colors match other themes better, so that you can use the modular RiGGED system for your modern combat and sci-fi minifigures.

As you can see on the picture above, in this wave the Gas Mask, Equipment Belt, Holster, Canister, Fuel Tank, Flamethrower, Grease Gun (with peg-hole), Medical Supplies, Round Clip, Axe Head, and Shovel (with peg-hole) are all brand-new items. My personal favorites are the medic supplies, because you need someone to help your wounded soldiers.

Custom LEGO Minifigures by BrickForge

Custom LEGO Accessories – 30 Under $.30: Can you believe that BrickForge is already on their 18th round of specials? In case you don’t remember from our previous discussion, 30 under $.30 is a sale where 30 random items that have passed their optimal shelf-life are put on sale for under 30 cents. Custom LEGO accessories are often expensive as they are made in small batches by LEGO fans, but BrickForge always had fair prices. And these clearance deals give you even better offers, and allows you to grab bulk minifigure accessories for your LEGO armies and other minifigures. Some pretty neat ones this time are the Wizard Sword in bronze, the Kunai in silver, and the Turban in sand-green.

Custom LEGO Accessories Sale by BrickForge

Custom LEGO Accessories – December Promotions: On orders of over $15, you can get a free Gemstone Pack, and extra packs are on sale for only $3, instead of $6. Previously they had the Splat Pack, and the Bottles Pack – all very popular and useful items. This is a great way to get some really nice accessories in bulk. I hope BrickForge will continue with these specials in the future as well.

Custom LEGO by BrickForge December Special

Another promotion this month is the Win Your Wish-List Contest. Here is the official announcement: “Thousands of fanatics receive their favorite BrickForge accessories in the post each year, but do you ever wonder what happens to those well-intentioned wish lists that sit long-forgotten? About this time each year BrickForge staff members send all idle customer Wish-Lists to the North Pole in hopes that Santa Claus (or other festive philanthropist) will grant at least one BrickForge fan their Wish-List. These lists are sorted by Fizzlewick, the official Wish-List Assessor, who helps determine which of the ‘nice’ boys & girls should be granted one last gift this year.” You can read more about how to receive up to $100.00 of BrickForge items PLUS a free custom minifig here. Please note that the deadline for this promotion is tomorrow, so you better start adding things to your wish-list now for a chance to win! 🙄

Custom LEGO Special by BrickForge

Custom LEGO Accessories – Easter Egg Items: There are some new printed items that I call “Easter Eggs”, because they are not advertised, and can be hard to find. There are two new Round Pauldron prints, one with a cross and the other a crown. A handful of Swords and Spears now also have printed variants, where the hilt/shaft is one color and the blade/point is another. These items are a little more expensive than standard ones, but are way cooler. I will let you find them yourself, because that’s part of the fun.

Custom LEGO Accessories – Cheats & Other: Yes, I know that’s a weird title, but there are actually cheat-codes that you can use to get small discounts, like 10-15% off! The first one I will give to you, but the others take a little work on your part. To get 10% off, use the coupon-code “bwshow2014”. This code actually expired on November 30th, but there are still other ways to get discounts – and here’s one that takes a little more work: you should be able to get 10% off every year, by entering “bwshow” and then the year. However the drawback is that this only works once a year, and only after July 1st. Another little cheat is to complete the survey on the side tab that asks, “What is your favorite RiGGED accessory?” (or something along those lines). You will get a slightly larger discount coupon for that. Also, the BrickForge guys will listen to requests and petitions. I asked to have several items brought back, and they actually did bring back most of them. I just posted my petition at the BrickForge forum, and it seemed to work. If you are reading this, thanks BrickForge team!

They are clearly doing some great work. Love the detail on their items.

Yes, their products are really nicely done. I particularly like that they are not just making guns like other customizers, but also everyday items.

I’ve ordered several of their products and I”m very happy with them. I have mostly ordered their scooters. And then also some instruments and other items.

    • admin December 24, 2014, 1:53 PM

I forgot to tell you, I got a few more printed scooters with my last order, so now I have 8 it total – one of each color they carry. 🙂

      • Kim December 24, 2014, 1:54 PM

Cool!!!! Now you can have a scooter gang too!!!!

        • admin December 24, 2014, 1:58 PM

Naw, you can’t be a badguy on such cute scooters. It just doesn’t work. But only scooters, bicycles and skateboards are allowed in my modular street, so now all the minifigs have something to use. 🙂

A good gang? One that does community service XD

If only I had a camera… I would have sold all my LEGO.

    Too bad cameras aren’t cheap

This might be the wrong place to make this comment, but I am very confused as to why military themed MOC’s and customization is so popular. Personally, part of the appeal of LEGO is it presents a perfect, unrealistic fantasy world free from the harshness of real life, so why mess it up by introducing such a gritty, depressing thing such as war? Perhaps it’s just my personal perception of war, as I know some people see it as valiant and glorious. I’m not saying that soldiers aren’t heroic, but in no way is a soldier’s life glamorous. When I look at my minifigs, I like to imagine each as a superstar, every one of them is a child at heart, because really minifigs are nothing more than a vehicle on which children to project their own personalities and ambitions. This is why it is so disturbing to me to see the polar opposite of this in military themes.

Anthony, I can’t speak for everyone, but I know numerous people who collect minuature soldiers, or make soldier minifigs. In fact, I’m one of them, and I would add to this that I’m a girl. I’m scared of war and conflict, and would never hurt anyone intentionally (I’m also a vegetarian), nor would I wish anything bad on anyone, but there is something really inspiring about heroes and warriors.

Ever since I was little I was drawing greek warriors, American Indian chiefs, and Mongolian archers on their horses. I also loved drawing and making weapons and mapping out battle-scenes. I also played out battles with my brothers and sisters, either with toy weapons, or with our LEGO and Playmobil minifigs. We moc-died after a valiant battle and then of course came to life again to fight another war.

My friends who are into military themed MOCs are very similar. None of them are violent people who would want war or would want to hurt anyone. Most of them are artists, dreamers who still believe in good over evil. I’m not sure where this trait of being fastinated with warriors and weapons comes from. Maybe there is a psychologist somewhere who figured it out.

But I assure you that most children and people who make military minifigures are not about liking war. It is something different. We dream about heroes who save innocent people from bad, evil stuff. In one sense you couldn’t be more childlike. There is a really sweet chapter in the book The Art of the Brick by Nathan Sawaya I reviewed the other day, where he talks about his childhood pastime of building LEGO armies and attacking his sister’s Barbies. The guy is an artist, he couldn’t be any further away from wanting to hurt anyone. It is just something kids and kids-at-heart do. Believing in heroes is our way of escaping the sometimes depressing realities of real life. 🙂
