New LEGO elements in 2015 – Part 2

(Written by BLProductions)

Today we are going to continue out previous discussion about new LEGO elements coming in 2015. In Part 1 of this series (see: New LEGO Elements in 2015 – Part 1) we covered nine new pieces. At the time of writing that article I knew of only about 18 new elements, but since then I have learned that there are at least 31 (4 of which are minifig parts)! This time I will attempt to cover more of these new pieces – particularly the interesting ones – and since there are quite a few, instead of listing them all separately, I will put them into categories. Hence the parts’ names are now in italics. Also, if a part has a Design ID listed with it, you can find in the Brickset.com database by searching the ID. So, let’s get to it! 🙂

#31030 LEGO Technic

LEGO Technic Parts: There are six more new LEGO Technic pieces, in addition to the two we discussed in Part 1. The first of these new parts is Cross Axle 2M W. Snap W. Fric (Design ID 18651), which comes in black and is basically the opposite of this year’s Con. Bush 2M Fr. + Cross Axle. It appears in the #31030 LEGO Creator Red Go-kart, #42031 LEGO Technic Cherry Picker, and #42038 LEGO Technic Arctic Truck. The next three are Gear Wheel Z16, Double-sided (in red); Driving Ring 3M (in dark-stone-grey); and Cross Axle, Extension, 3M, 3 Ribs (in white). All three of these pieces appear together in the #42038 LEGO Technic Arctic Truck and the #42039 LEGO Technic 24 Hours Race Car. The #42039 LEGO Technic 24 Hours Race Car also sports new Curved Panel 3X13 W. Holes in bright-green. The below video shows most of these parts, and also the Peg Bush we talked about in the previous article.

LEGO Assorted Elements: These parts don’t really have a collective category, so I’ll list them together. First off, the most useful piece in this category, Plate 1X2 W. 2 Shafts Ø 3.2 (Design ID 18649). This is an official part, and comes in black in three sets: #31028 LEGO Creator Sea Plane, #41531 LEGO Mixels Flamzer, and #41534 LEGO Mixels Vampos. Next is Bearing Element 2X4 Mini Snap (Design ID 18892), another official part, which appears in black in the #60075 LEGO City Excavator and Truck and #60082 LEGO City Dune Buggy Trailer.

#31028 LEGO Creator

Another official part is End Piece for Truck Body (Design ID 30022), which comes in orange and bright-yellow in the #60083 LEGO City Snowplow Truck and #60075LEGO City Excavator and Truck, respectively. This part happens to be the second part that I have found on LEGO Digital Designer before the piece has been released (the first was the Techno-blade piece).

#60075 LEGO City

The last three of the assorted LEGO elements I will discuss here are all from the new LEGO Elves line, to be released in March 2015. The first is Stalk with 6 Stems. It is similar to the regular flower stalk with 3 stems, but this time it comes with 6 stems, and in dark-green. I’ve found it in #41075 LEGO Elves Treetop Hideaway and #41076 LEGO Elves Fairan and the Crystal Hollow. The second part is (or what I call it) Fancy Handle, which looks like a shovel handle and appears to be special in the LEGO Elves story. It comes in aqua (for water), orange (for fire?), and bright-yellowish-green (for leaves); one color to each of these sets: #41073 LEGO Elves Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship, #41074 LEGO Elves Azari and the Magical Bakery, and #41076 LEGO Elves Fairan and the Crystal Hollow. Finally, there are some new leafy fence pieces that appear in #41074 LEGO Elves Azari and the Magical Bakery in gold, and #41075 LEGO Elves Treetop Hideaway in sand-green.

#41075 LEGO Elves

LEGO Animal Parts: Excluding LEGO Friends, Disney Princess, and Elves mini-animals, there is really only one new animal this year, but it is a good one. It’s a new alligator design found in the new LEGO City subtheme Swamp Police. It is made up of three parts: a body, an upper jaw, and a tail; all of them are in earth-green. These alligators appear in #60066 LEGO City Starter Set, #60067 LEGO City Helicopter Pursuit, #60068 LEGO City Robber Swamp Hideout, and #60069 LEGO City Swamp Police Station.

#60067 LEGO City

So these are 12 more of the new parts for 2015 sets. It looks like there will be plenty of new elements to get next year, and plenty of sets to get them from. As we have discussed earlier, some of the 2015 LEGO sets are already available, and you can check them out at the Online LEGO Shop.

Loving the new Alligator. He will make a great pet.

    • admin December 22, 2014, 11:58 AM

Yeah, I really like the alligator too. I’m not sure if I want to keep him as a pet though. We have alligators all around us here in Florida, and they are definitely not for petting. 🙄

The new fence panels scream Victorian railings/ironwork to me like an old greenhouse. Similar to how Diagon Alley does as well (now theres a set I’m desparate for still)

    • Tom December 23, 2014, 5:05 PM

Ok having said that I just picked up Diagon Alley fot less than retail 🙂

Hey Admin, I’m trying to decide whether or not I actually want Palace Cinema. I know it was one that you didn’t like, what were your particular objections to it? It has some elements that I like such as the snack bar and the ticket windows, but the rest of the interior feels a little plain and the movie viewing area seems kind of small. What are your thoughts?

    • admin December 22, 2014, 4:33 PM

Kim, the reason I didn’t get the Palace Cinema is more of a personal choice. I just don’t like that type of arthicteture; not in real life, not in LEGO. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the set itself, and in its own right it is quite lovely. I know some people complain about the interior being too plain, but I think it looks nice. And I like the fact that the Modulars leave enough room inside so we can add our own decorations.

I was actually just thinking the other day, after adding the Detective’s Office to my layout (yes, I have it already – review will come soon), that when you have several Modulars next to each other it is better if at least some of them are more plain, otherwise the whole layout start to look/feel too busy and confusing. I have four Modulars right now, and I’m glad that some of them have a more plain interior.

So, yeah, I have nothing against the Palace Cinema besides I don’t like that type of architecture. I think the sign is beautifully done and the posters are really sweet. All of the Modulars are the best of what LEGO has to offer. I don’t think you would be disappointed with any of them. It just comes down to personal taste as far as which one you like the best. So if you are considering the Palace Cinema, go ahead and get it. 😉

My favorites (in order) are Parisian Restaurant, Detective’s Office, Pet Shop, and Town Hall. I have all four and have been spending months tinkering with them and decorating the interiors. I don’t care for the rest of the sets, and I don’t have a burning desire to collect them all. But that doesn’t mean the others are not awesome. I just get the ones I like the most. 🙂

Ahh ok. Thanks for the info. Yeah I’m still not sure. LOL Guess I’ll take the rest of December to think about it as I plan to buy a modular in mid January, either Detective’s Office, Parisian Restaurant, or Palace Cinema. I have to be honest, I love Detective’s Office and Parisian, but I only “like” Palace Cinema. Being that they are such high ticket items and there are so many other sets I know I want to get, I may go without Palace Cinema and build my own movie theater. That’s another tricky balance. Trying to decide what I want a “set” of and what I want to build on my own but thank you for the feedback. =)

    • admin December 22, 2014, 6:22 PM

Yes, that’s a good option too; just build your own. I often do this when there is a set I’m not planning to buy, but there are certain aspects of it that I like. I just download the building instruction from LEGO’s website to learn how to build a specific section, then I incorporate it into my own design. 🙂

So, just a suggestion for these series, can you give a picture of the piece itself? I’m sure that many of us are not really able to find the piece on the sets, and I don’t want to look up the name. Thanks.

    • admin December 22, 2014, 6:20 PM

Yes, I agree that would be better, however the issue is that since these are new sets, we don’t have pictures of the new parts yet.

      • BLProductions December 22, 2014, 9:43 PM

Well, some of these parts do have official pictures; they’re on the Brickset database. The problem is that these parts total at 7, out of the 34 I’ve currently found (yes I’ve found more since this article). Plus, if you watch the video in the article, Sariel shows the individual new pieces, and describes them in subtitles. He’s very good at listing them.
Also, admin, sorry about the lateness, I spent the majority of today taking a Calculus test that I somehow managed to get 99% on, even though I did pretty bad. 😐 But no complaints there. Anyways, I won’t be able to get Part 3 until after Christmas, unless I get lots of time tomorrow. Will you still be able to fit it in before New Year’s?

        • Håkan December 23, 2014, 7:17 AM

If you’d have better pictures in January, I wouldn’t mind waiting until then.

        • admin December 23, 2014, 10:09 AM

Congratulations about your test! As far as posting your article between Christmas and the end of the year, I’m not sure. That basically means four days and two of those are already taken. So we shall see… but I don’t think there is harm waiting until January either. It is not like everybody will be rushing out getting all the new sets on January 1st. 😉

          • BLProductions December 23, 2014, 10:51 AM

There are 6 days between Christmas day and New Year’s Day, but I understand if you have other things planned for those days. It depends, I can finish the article today and send it to you, it only needs a little more editing, and it can go in one of those two remaining days you mentioned. If you did it after the New Year (as in 2015; wow, already, it’s almost frightening 😕 ), you would have to do it on the 2nd or 3rd, as LEGO usually updates their replacement parts pages 2-3 days after set releases. The problem with that is part inventories tend to throw my information off, meaning that the article will become obsolete. But I suppose I’m over thinking this (as always); admin, you can post it whenever you like, I’ll send it soon. 😉

            • admin December 23, 2014, 11:09 AM

I know it’s six days, but in one of those days I can’t post because I won’t be around, and one of them is about the after Christmas sales, which is a must as readers are always looking forward to it. Which leaves four days. One of those four has to be a review on Birds, and the other a review on the Detective’s Office as LEGO requested me to post those. That leaves two days. There is a possibility I could post it on one of those days but I can’t garantee it. Don’t worry we will fit it in somewhere. Most of our readers are not fanatics like us and it is not like they want up to the minute information on everything. 😉

              • BLProductions December 23, 2014, 11:38 AM

True enough. I was just getting myself all riled up. 🙂
I’ll be looking forward to both of those reviews, I know Huw just did one on the Detective’s Office yesterday and I’ve learned quite a bit, I need to get going with it on LDD. 😕 😉
