LEGO The Hobbit – more funny videos

There are a couple of very funny LEGO The Hobbit stop-motion videos that were released by the BrotherhoodWorkshop within the past month that I haven’t posted yet, so I will include them here in one playlist, along with a behind-the-scenes look at how the videos were made. 🙂

LEGO The Hobbit Stop-Motion Video by the Brotherhood Workshop

First let’s look at the videos themselves. They are all in one play-list, so you can watch them one after another. The first one is titled LEGO The Hobbit: Azog’s Battle Plan. This is actually my favorite of the three videos as the conversation between the orcs is really cute. The second video is titled LEGO The Hobbit: Why Saruman Went Bad. The filming of this video is particularly nice, and the techniques used will be explained in the tutorial below. The third video is titled LEGO The Hobbit: Conversation with Smaug. So much gold! This video is short and witty, and will also be used as an example in the tutorial.

And now take a look at the behind-the-scenes tutorial. If you are familiar with the work of the BrotherhoodWorkshop (we have featured many of their videos and tutorials here before – see links at the end of this post), you know that they are very open about sharing their techniques to help other LEGO stop-motion animators who would like to improve their skills. Here Kevin talks about his tricks on how to improve images using after effects.

So what do you think? How did you like the LEGO The Hobbit stop-motion videos? And what you do think of the tutorial? Did you find it helpful? Do you do LEGO animation yourself? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! And you can also browse the current selection of LEGO The Hobbit sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

After Effects CS6 is great software. My friend owns a package and has created several professional-style shorts.
Color grading and correcting is a very important part of editing. I’ve watched several tutorials on how to use after effects.
They used After Effects in the Iron Man films.

Hey Admin, I have been reading your blog for a long time now and want to know about becoming a contributor. Also I would like to start a blog but don’t know how. Do you have any tips you could give me?

    • admin January 14, 2015, 3:04 PM

Benjamin, you can become an official contributors after three submitted posts that gets approved and published. You choose the topic, write the article, include pictures/video, edit, proof-read etc. – I will do the formatting and publishing. Articles should be around 500-1000 words long. As long as the topic is about LEGO and well written on a subject that is interesting for our community, I’m happy to publish it for you.

As far as blogging, if you plan to be just a casual blogger, you can start a free blog on several platforms; wordpress, blogger, and many others are available just for this purpose. If you are going to be very casual, instead of setting up a blog you might consider running a Facebook page or Google+ page. It is easier, and you get a lot more exposure than just having a lonely little blog in the big universe. If you want to set up serious blog or run a website as a business, wordpress.org is your best bet (this is different than the free wordpress.com platform mentioned above). You will have to do and pay for your own hosting, design and management though. Hope this helps. 😉

Thanks! I will hopefully soon have an article sent to you!

Saw these a few days ago. Hilarious! My favorite is Azog’s Battle Plan, the common sense orcs have compared to their leaders is incredible. 🙂 And I wondered how Saruman put up with the telepathy going on during the council meetings. 😀
I note that Smaug never actually knew about the Ring, and generally saying “precioussssss” doesn’t trigger the Eye of Sauron, as (and I’m sure Kevin knows) there was no Eye during the time of the Hobbit. So that video isn’t strictly correct, though still rather funny. 🙂
Also, here’s another funny one you haven’t posted here, admin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c63nvjzMqII Admittedly it is short and was published a while ago, though. 😉

Yeah, that’s my favorite one too with the Orcs. I didn’t post that short one because I like to post the ones that are a bit longer and that have a behind-the-scenes video. Kevin just sent me a new one that he haven’t made public yet. That will probably be the next one I post. I enjoy the tutorials just as much as the videos. 🙂

Hey, Admin. I won’t be able to write that Avengers article this week. Things came up and my schedule doesn’t leave me much freetime. If you don’t mind it being delayed 5 days then I’m still up for writing it. If you want it sooner, that’s fine if you do it or someone else does. Just wanted to let you know.

    • admin January 15, 2015, 11:06 AM

      That’s fine. No rush. 😉

Seems like a lot of work to me. But its very awesome how they do that! Unfortunately I’m not an expert with computers. Great work to the guy(s) behind this! Keep up the good work!

if they where here, of course. I wonder how long it takes them to make these.
