I’m pretty certain this will be a must have. While I am not much of a Lego Simpsons collector (I only have Itchy and Scratchy), I do see the Kwik-E Mart as being a great universal fit for those that are Creator, City, or Simpsons only collectors.

My current Creator building only city is currently lacking a grocery store. This would fill that void perfectly, and I love all the printed items and the imbedded humor throughout the set.

As for the minifigures, I think I need to grab a Professor Frink and Groundskeeper Willie.

    • admin March 12, 2015, 12:05 PM

Yes, this set is perfect as it is for a LEGO City layout. Just replace the minifigs and it’s ready to go! 😀

It’s pretty amazing that newer sets like this, are running that fine line of being a playset and/or an MOC, with the level of detail in them. Makes me wonder if they realized they need to step up their game, what with the amazing creations posted on Ideas as well as the myriad # of fansites out there.

    • admin March 12, 2015, 12:06 PM

I think they have realized that there is a market for large detailed sets like this. As long as we buy them, they are happy to make them. A win-win. 😛

Very true:-) Thita, I just wanted to let you know that I have really enjoyed your site. Came across it a few months ago when I “rediscovered” my love of LEGO and was searching for LEGO on google. Your informative pieces from LEGO themselves to AFOLs and so on, make me check your site daily, especially when I’m at work, helps the day go by quicker;-). Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for sharing that. I’m glad we can help you fuel your LEGO addiction. If you ever have any requests, ideas, questions, feel free to post them. I very much appreciate our community. 🙂

Thanks admin. I also came out of my dark ages and your site is VERY helpful, even for a TFOL (Teen Fan Of Lego) like me. My only regret is that my wallet is not as extensive as it looks like other’s are. Thanks for all the great work.

Yeah, supporting the hobby requires some tweaking. I do it by selling minifigs and some other pieces I don’t need from sets I buy, as I’m mostly a builder, not a collector. I have a strict rule that I only spend money I make from sales. I know several teens and adults who have been supporting their hobby this way. You might want to give it a try. This way you don’t have to be rich. 😉

      • VirtualMirage March 12, 2015, 1:57 PM

The wife just took a look at this set and isn’t as enthusiastic about it as I am. She’s concerned the colors of the building are too bold and doesn’t appear to match the era that the Creator Expert buildings appear to be set in.

I don’t have so much of a problem with the color and I am willing to look past that (or just swap out the yellow bricks for a different color), but she does have a bit of a point in regards to it not fitting the era. The Creator Expert buildings seem to fit around the early to mid 1900s time line (my guess late ’20s to mid ’50s) whereas the Kwik E Mart looks to be about 30 years after that (’80s and up). Also, the Creator Expert buildings seem to be more worldly in design and appearance while the Kwik E Mart seems be heavily American in both of those departments, causing it to stand out more.

I guess I could argue that Lego resides in a timeless universe where it isn’t uncommon for old world to mesh with new world. And…..look at all those printed pieces!!!

        • EggbertOne March 12, 2015, 4:14 PM

This would actually look beautiful in a Lego city layout, where it’s “just around the corner”. How many urban areas had just this happen to them, where one of the original buildings burned to ground and was a vacant lot until “7-11” snapped it up to build something to reduce the blight? IN a story telling way, it would make sense, especially if you modded it just enough to have the colors of a 7-11 or other corner quickmart.

        • admin March 12, 2015, 4:24 PM

The Creator Expert modular buildings are although older looking in style, their setting is actually quite modern. The Town Hall for example has a computer in the lobby. I don’t know about other countries, but at least here in the USA to see older buildings from the early to mid 1900s with a Kwik-E-Mart type store next to them is extremely common. I’m from Chicago, and there was a street close to where I lived that looked exactly like a row of the Creator Expert buildings, with a little corner store just like the Kwik-E-Mart. So yeah, at least here it is a very realistic combination. And as you said, you can also change up some of the colors if you feel like it would be more believable for the neighborhoods in your country. Or you could use the pieces to completely re-build the set into a corner store that is more realistic for you. 🙂

          • VirtualMirage March 12, 2015, 8:34 PM

You are right about the Town Hall, I forgot about that. It’s one of the sets I don’t have. All the others I own don’t appear to have much, if any, modern tech (Pet Shop, Parisian Restaurant, Detective’s Office, Grand Emporium).

Yeah, I’m in the USA as well and I do see a mixed range of buildings that span different decades, NYC and DC are good examples. Again, I don’t have much of an issue, but the wife seems pretty set to have our town looking consistent. 😉 Her utopia, so to speak.

At the moment, she’s trying to convince me to just build my own grocery store that better fits the look she is after. I guess that will be my next project once I finish up my current project of an Irish pub and coffee shop.

            • admin March 12, 2015, 9:21 PM

Maybe she can have the pretty part of town, and you can build the bad part of town?

  • BLProductions March 12, 2015, 12:02 PM

And just yesterday we were talking about another supermarket… which I believe just got blown out of the competition. However, I’m not a Simpsons fan, and I don’t plan to get either the store or the CMFs, though I’m sure they will please a lot of people. Lots of great parts in the Kwik-E Mart, it would definitely come in handy for a LEGO City. I note a lot of stickers to be present as well. I see some new printing ideas… especially all-around printed legs, and printed short-sleeved arms. Overall, very cool! 🙂

    • admin March 12, 2015, 12:10 PM

Yes, there are some stickers as well, but all of the smaller parts are printed, and those are the parts I’m looking forward to the most. I don’t think the Juniors Supermarket has been blown out. It is still a very sweet set and a great value for what you get. Plus $20 vs. $200 does make a difference. 🙄

      • Håkan March 13, 2015, 6:52 AM

Yeah. I wondered about the prints vs. sticker ratio. That old man in the freezer (I forgot his name at the moment) does seem to be a sticker, but it actually feels rather apt, with a badly placed sticker giving the part an eerily wavy vibe…

        • admin March 13, 2015, 10:19 AM

It is a bit hard to tell from the pictures, but it seems like the larger designs are stickers, and the small ones are all prints. I’m fairly sure that the freezer guy is a sticker, like you said.

          • BLProductions March 13, 2015, 4:28 PM

I think that makes sense. It looks like all the “comic books” are printed, as well as the milk-jugs, as they have appeared previously. The license plate also looks printed. But it looks like the EZ Money stand, the food-section labels, and the Kwik-E Mart sign are all stickers. Not sure about Jasper (the frozen guy), but I can see difficulties applying a sticker there if the part it goes on is curved.

            • admin March 13, 2015, 4:53 PM

I was wondering about that Kwik-E-Mart sign. The E is brick-built, and my guess would be that the rest is stickers. but I don’t seem to see the edge of the sticker, so it made me hope that it may be printed.

              • BLProductions March 13, 2015, 9:47 PM

Oh, the Kwik-E sign I was talking about was on one of the shelves inside the store. That one is a sticker. However, I built the big sign on the front on LDD, and it seems like the parts there are printed. I don’t see any sticker-edges either.

                • admin March 14, 2015, 9:33 AM

Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, that one inside definitely looks like a sticker. I would be very-very happy if the outside sign is printed! 😛

        • Håkan March 14, 2015, 7:31 AM

Jasper, apparently. Just read through the article more closely.

  • Kim March 12, 2015, 1:12 PM

I need this!!!! I”m also interested in the series 2 minifigs. Interesting torsos and accessories to use with regular figs.

    • admin March 12, 2015, 1:48 PM

I definitely need this set too! And I was also considering just the torsos from the minifigs, as I don’t really care for The Simpsons themselves. And I must have that sling-shot! 🙄

      • Kim March 12, 2015, 2:28 PM

i saw the price on this thing. It’s $199.99. My heart fell a little but I”ll probably still get it.

        • admin March 12, 2015, 4:27 PM

Yeah, the price is steep, but if you look at the price per piece, it is actually an excellent deal. But yes, $200 bucks is a lot.

          • Kim March 12, 2015, 5:47 PM

Yeah it does have all those cool little pieces. I can’t wait for bricklink to explode with chocolate milks

            • admin March 12, 2015, 9:20 PM

Yeah, me too! My minifigs are looking at the pictures and licking their lips. 😛

  • Strider March 12, 2015, 2:14 PM

Wow. I’m blown away by all the cool accessories in the super market, I want this one even more than the Simpsons house. Marges purse in her sunday best minifigure form is really nice as well.

  • Rob Andrews March 12, 2015, 3:05 PM

Enjoy your Site! Excited for this set- looks awesome. Makes me wonder (as you eluded to) whether the first set is on the way out. Would make sense I guess to have yearly releases- kind of like the Winter Village sets. Went to Shop @ Home and also found it interesting that you can only purchase one Simpson House at a time. hmmm.

    • admin March 12, 2015, 4:34 PM

Rob, my guess is that now that a second Simpsons set has been confirmed, and it is an incredibly good set, people will scramble to get the first one to match. So while I can’t say for sure when The Simpsons House will be retired, I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be significant shortages. It happens every time when a new modular building gets released. New people fall in love with the new set, and now they want to complete their collection by buying the previous sets. And because a lot of people think the same way, all of a sudden all the sets disappear from the shelves.

So yes, if someone is considering having both of The Simpsons sets, I would suggest getting The Simpsons House before the Kwik-E-Mart gets released and everybody scrambles to get both. Double VIP Points period is coming up this weekend, so it is a perfect time to get a larger set like The Simpsons House. 😉

      • Rob Andrews March 12, 2015, 5:04 PM

        Thanks for the advice!

  • Carbo March 12, 2015, 3:58 PM

I really want this set for my LEGO City. It’s super cool and detailed! The minifigure series isn’t as great. I only want the comic book guy for that drink.

  • Clumsybumsy March 15, 2015, 2:09 PM

I really hope all the magazine’s and food parts are printed. If those were sticker’s it would take ages to apply them and be a bad thing for a great set(from what i can see).

    • admin March 15, 2015, 2:11 PM

Those are definitely printed, so nothing to worry about. 😉

  • isn’t it “El Barto”? not Bartman

    • Narrator_Bob March 16, 2015, 6:56 PM

It could be either, he wears the same cape and hood for both.

  • Narrator_Bob March 16, 2015, 6:57 PM

I love the snowball II (the black cat) that comes with Lisa.

    • Kimono Jay-Mouth Of Lightning March 18, 2015, 7:06 PM

and santa’s little helper with Maggie!

  • From the last series I got:

    Mr Burns
    Homer
    Bart
    Chief Wiggums
    Apu
    Ned
    Itchy
    Krusty

I hope to get from this series:

    Willie
    Comic Book Guy
    Lisa
    Maggie
    Millhouse
