LEGO Star Wars new sets, updates & more!

If you are a LEGO Star Wars fan you are likely aware of all the buzz happening in the Star Wars universe right now due to the recent Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California. In addition to the general Star Wars celebration, LEGO also had a booth at the event where they revealed several new sets, had an exclusive set available just for participants, and more. Below you can read the details. ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO Star Wars Celebration 2015

First of all, the second official teaser trailer was released for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, creatingย lots of excitementย amongst Star Wars fans, and of course several LEGO fans recreated the trailer in LEGO (I will share one of them with you below, and you can find more on YouTube).

For LEGO Star Wars fans and collectors probably the most interesting is the exclusive LEGO Star Wars Tatooine Mini-Build set that was available for purchase at the event. It includes a micro version of some iconic scenes and characters from Tatooine; the home where Luke Skywalker grew up, a micro-size Sandcrawler, and Landspeeder, and micro versions of C-3PO, R2-D2, Owen Lars, and two Jawas. A regular C-3PO minifigure is also included. The set contains 178 pieces and originally sold for $40 at the event. If you are interested, you can get the set on eBay, but expect to pay about double the price. You can find current listings here: LEGO STAR WARS TATOOINE MINI-BUILD ON EBAY

Some of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars sets were also on display, including the #75094 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle Tydirium, and the #75106 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Assault Carrier. We have seen these already at the toy fairs earlier this year, and you can find them already in the Brickset databaseย under the 2015 LEGO Star Wars sets.

Other sets that LEGO revealed are the LEGO Star Wars constraction figures. We have seen a couple of these before, but now we can take a look at the rest of them: #75107 LEGO Star Wars Jango Fett, #75108 LEGO Star Wars Clone Commander Cody, #75109 LEGO Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi, #75110 LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker, #75111 LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader, and #75112 LEGO Star Wars General Grievous. Opinions on these are quite controversial, leaning towards the negative – they just don’t look LEGO-ish enough, although they do include some useful pieces.

LEGO also revealed that there is going to be a new Disney XD animated show titled LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales later this year (no exact dates are available yet). According to the official press-release, the animated content series consists of five 22-minute episodes that re-tell the Star Wars saga in chronological order from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace up through Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. As its title suggests, LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales is a re-telling of the Star Wars universe through the eyes of C-3PO and R2-D2. Following their victory celebration in the Ewok village on Endor, seen at the close of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, C-3PO and R2-D2 have gathered to regale Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and the other Rebels with the tales of their adventures that led to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. An accidental kidnapping occurs while the droids are reminiscing and suddenly viewers are taken on a new adventure that leads to encounters with familiar faces and places that prompt the re-telling of the entire saga. The series offers all of the playful humor that viewers expect from LEGO Star Wars films.

That’s quite a bit, isn’t it? And except a lot more in the coming months as we get closer to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the end of the year. Also, remember that May the 4th is official Star Wars Day, which LEGO always celebrates with new LEGO Star Wars sets and promotions. We will talk about those in more detail at the beginning of next month. In the meantime you can check out the currently available LEGO Star Wars sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

All good news Admin, but you say no exact date is available for the Droid Tales, but on the poster it says at the bottom, ‘Coming in July!’ =P I suggest you change that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • admin April 23, 2015, 11:42 AM

I don’t see that as contradictory. The first episode is coming in July, but that’s just a month, not an exact date, nor do we know when the other episodes are coming. Is that good? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Excited about STAR WARS am I , waiting I can not mmmm.

    • admin April 23, 2015, 11:50 AM

I was waiting for someone to say something like that. ๐Ÿ™„

  • Strider April 23, 2015, 1:16 PM

Really excited for the movie. Last year I thought it was coming in May 2015. So I’m a bit bummed as well :P. The General Grievous constraction figure works really well.

    • admin April 23, 2015, 3:35 PM

Yeah, a lot of people say that General Grievous is the best looking contraction figure! I can’t wait for the new movie and the new sets! ๐Ÿ˜€

Having watched the new, recent movie trailers, I’m forced to conclude that SW EP. VII is the one I’m looking forward to most. Everything else is becoming… meh. ๐Ÿ˜• I just hope the LEGO sets for SW are good, the rest of this year’s set haven’t been the best so far.
I can’t say the people who say the constraction figures are un-LEGOish are wrong, after all, isn’t the point of constraction to be different than normal LEGO? Yet no one complains about Bionicle or the like. ๐Ÿ˜
Droid Tales sounds interesting, I’ll watch those episodes, if I can, that is.
Also, Mixels! http://brickset.com/article/15107/mixels-series-six-images ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think they’re losing their touch, though there are still a few cool ones.

    • admin April 23, 2015, 5:00 PM

I have thought about this, and I think the issue with the SW constraction figures is the ones that are humans. Their faces are too creepy and just doesn’t fit LEGO. The ones that look like droids, or have a helmet on are not so bad. And I do agree that Grievous is pretty awesome. I’m also really looking forward to the new film and the sets that will come with it. Rehashes of old sets are just getting uninteresting…

We will talk about the new Mixels next week. I still like them. Also, I have been just contacted by The Fold and they would like to do an interview for us. Do you guys have any questions for them? ๐Ÿ™‚

      • BLProductions April 23, 2015, 8:36 PM

I wouldn’t say creepy… just too realistic for a LEGO model. But I agree, droids generally look better (although Greivous used to be human- does he count as droid or man?). But I think Greivous looks okay; in fact, the only ones I actually dislike are Obi-Wan and Luke, because, as you said, their faces stand out.
The 2015 sets weren’t totally uninteresting, just lacking in size and accuracy. They leaned too much towards playability and minifigs. I suspect most SW sets will be that way from now on, new or no. ๐Ÿ˜•
The Fold… don’t they make the music for Ninjago? If they are interviewing LEGO, my question is: when will you make more accurate models in themed sets? It’s not just Star Wars, but Ninjago, Speed Champions, (sometimes) Super Heroes, etc. ๐Ÿ˜

        • Brad April 24, 2015, 2:53 AM

Grievous was never human, he’s Kaleesh. See here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kaleesh

She (I think the admin is a she) didn’t say anything about them interviewing LEGO. I think she meant that they’re interested in being interviewed by her for the blog.

          • admin April 24, 2015, 9:22 AM

            Brad, yes, that’s correct. ๐Ÿ™‚

            • Brad April 24, 2015, 12:35 PM

Did you not specify which part you meant because you meant the whole thing? Also, did you get my email?

              • admin April 24, 2015, 12:41 PM

Brad, yes, I meant everything you said. I did receive your email also, but I only looked at it briefly. My Fridays are always extremely busy; I get up, work some, write an article for the next day, then volunteer at the local vegetarian food program from 2-5 PM, then go over to the dojo for training, and I don’t get home until after 8 PM. I will look over your email in more detail on the weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin April 24, 2015, 9:22 AM

Yes, I think it’s pretty clear that Star Wars is going to go towards playability from now on even for the UCS sets. Fans demanded it and LEGO responded. As far as The Fold, yes, they do the Ninjago theme songs. They asked me if I want to do an interview with them. In otherwords we are the ones interviewing them. So we can ask them whatever we want. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • LegoGeekOffical April 24, 2015, 11:12 AM

Ask them to explain the Morrow Dragon!
            p.s. I am making a new website!
            http://www.legogeek.net

          • BLProductions April 24, 2015, 6:16 PM

But going towards playability means losing accuracy and detail, which I find important. But all I need is some time to work my designs, and I’ll have some of the most accurate SW sets to date, and still with play functions! Beat that, LEGO.
Oh, sorry, I guess I missed your meaning for the interview. I don’t have any questions I can think of right now, except that are they keeping the old Ninjago theme song in future episodes? I didn’t like the new version so much.

            • admin April 25, 2015, 8:46 AM

That is true about sacrificing accuracy and detail, but it seems like the majority of people rather have minifigs and play-features. And yes, just like you did, this can be taken as a challenge and build something even more awesome than official LEGO sets. And that’s a good thing! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • David Tennant Lover April 24, 2015, 6:50 AM

    So much Star Wars! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • admin April 24, 2015, 9:23 AM

Yeah, and more to come! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anything behind rumours of a new UCS Death Star or Millenium Falcon??

    • admin May 3, 2015, 10:38 PM

The rumors on a new Death Star are getting stronger, and they do make sense. The set is one of the most popular LEGO sets ever released, but the minifigs are kind of outdated. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this rumor turns into reality. I haven’t heard anything about the Millennium Falcon, however if it will be in the new movies, we could expect an updated set.

  • Bob Bufalini May 4, 2015, 11:48 AM

Now that I have the new TIE Fighter and the X-Wing in the Ultimate Collector Series size!!!! it sure would be nice if Lego came out with a new Ultimate Collector Series size Millennium Falcon to go with them… Thinking for Christmas or with the release of the new Star Wars VII movie would be Great timing for them and use!!! What do you think??

    • admin May 4, 2015, 5:15 PM

If the Falcon is in the new films, it is very likely LEGO will release another UCS Falcon set. So cross your fingers. ๐Ÿ˜‰
