LEGO Star Wars UCS Echo Base – is this it?

As you may remember from the 2015 LEGO Store Exclusives & Promotions discussion from back in January, we suppose to get a LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Hoth Echo Base in October of this year. According to early rumors, the set is going to be massive. After the release of the #76042 LEGO Ultimate Collector Series SHIELD Helicarrier some people even speculated that the set may be using micro-figures instead of regular minifigs to make the base realistically to scale. You might also remember that the short LEGO Star Wars films you can find on the official LEGO Star Wars website are often indicators of what’s coming (see: LEGO Star Wars Videos Hints on the Future). 🙂

LEGO Star Wars Echo Base Mini-Movie

In the recently released LEGO Star Wars Mini-Movies: Episode 11 – Battle of Hoth, the entire scene is played out at Echo Base, and while some of the models look familiar like the Snowspeeder, AT-AT and Wampa Cave, other sections like the big entrance doors, the command center, the shield-generator, and the ion-cannon are entirely new. All of this made LEGO Star Wars fans speculate that this might be the setup what we are going to get in the new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Hoth Echo Base. Below is the full episode, so you can see it for yourself:

There was actually an earlier version of this scene in the #7879 LEGO Star Wars Hoth Echo Base set (see below). It was a 773 piece, $90 set released in 2011 – a very nice setup including many of the scenes from the movie. For the new LEGO Star Wars Echo Base to receive Ultimate Collector Series status, it must be at least twice as big in both piece-count and price.

LEGO Star Wars Echo Base #7879

I’m not entirely convinced that what we see in this mini-movie is enough to indicate a Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set. It seems too small and chopped up – more like a regular large LEGO Star Wars set. At least in my mind an LEGO Ultimate Collector Echo Base would include a complete building, not just a doorway and some big guns here and there. It is possible that this is just a teaser that something Echo Base-related is coming, or it may have no relation to the upcoming set at all. And we may not even get an Echo Base – remember that the 2015 LEGO Store Exclusives & Promotions discussion from January was only a list of rumors – although I might add that so far all of them came true…

What do you think? Do you believe that the mini-movie is featuring the new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Hoth Echo Base? Are there any other indicators you notice in the movie that might confirm that this is the set we are getting? Or do you think that this movie has nothing to do with the upcoming set? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

From what my people assessed from this it looks more like a large PLAY set, like the Temple of Airjitzu. One reason is that there are way to many spring shooters and the snow covered disk thing would be a lot bigger.

Yes, that’s a good point. Although I would add that in general LEGO has been adding more play-features to UCS sets to make them more appealing to different people and age-groups.

Plus the way it is all open is very suspicious, but on the flip side there are twelve new printed torsos and minifigures, so it could be a devilishly evil teaser. 👿

Good point about the minifigs. I guess we will find out soon. The beginning and end of the year is always so exciting for LEGO fans! 😀

I… I hope this is NOT it. I would be so disappointed. But as I know Lego that is very much possible. I’m bitter…

Don’t give up hope yet. This may be just a teaser. We really don’t know. Personally I don’t think this is it. Maybe just a part of it. It just doesn’t fee like an UCS style set.

There is nothing to be sorry about. I consider Brickset our big brother. Many of us visit Brickset regularly, including myself. It is a great resource and a great way to manage your LEGO collection. In addition, bigger news items often overlap between LEGO fan sites, which is normal. Still, we have our own communities and friend. 🙂
