Where to find Comic-Con LEGO sets & minifigs

The recent San Diego Comic-Con turned out to be just as exciting as anyone could have hoped for, including many interesting presentations and discussions relevant to LEGO fans. Several of the upcoming new sets were also on display, and some of them could even be purchased. LEGO Dimensions was one of the big hits as people had a chance to try out the game. And as traditional, LEGO also released a limited quantity of exclusive LEGO sets and minifigures just for this event – which are of course highly coveted by collectors. You can read more about SDCC here: 2015 San Diego Comic-Con LEGO Specials, and today we will talk more about where to get the exclusive sets now that SDCC is over. 🙂

2015 San Diego Comic Con - LEGO Events

Attendants of SDCC have to go through quite a few hoops and loops to acquire to exclusive LEGO sets and minifigures, so many people don’t even bother and rather just have fun at the event. However hardcore collectors take the time to get their raffle tickets, stand in line – or whatever is needed – to increase their chances. And while some of these people are collectors who want to get these rarities for themselves, others know how coveted these items are and plan to sell them on the secondary market to recoup some of their expenses. Thus pretty much as soon as SDCC is over, you will find these LEGO exclusives offered up for sale on eBay, BrickLink, and social-media sites and forums. As you might expect, you will be paying a premium for such rare items, so it is a good idea to time your purchase and comparison shop.

âž¡ 2015 SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON EXCLUSIVE LEGO SETS: Three special sets were available for attendees of the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con; LEGO Star Wars Dagobah Mini-Build with 177 pieces and an R2-D2 minifigure, LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Action Comics #1 Superman with 145 pieces and a Superman minifigure, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Throne of Ultron with 203 pieces and four minifigures (Ultron and three Ultron Sentries). The sets required to be selected in a raffle before being able to purchase them at the event for $39.99 each.

Prices on these sets are currently around $100-$130 on eBay, which is actually quite reasonable. To give you a comparison, the 2013 and 2014 SDCC sets that are still available are in the $150-$300 range. Which brings us to the next point; it is better to buy these sets now when a lot of people try to sell them and thus keeping the prices relatively low, rather than wait until later. The longer you wait the harder it will become to find sellers who still offer these sets – which also means they can ask for even higher prices. And there is another danger in waiting; Chinese LEGO cloners will be catching up and offering fakes. Don’t fall for those as they are bad quality and have no value! âž¡ 2015 SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON EXCLUSIVE LEGO MINIFIGS: There were also a couple of exclusive minifigures that were given away in a drawing at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, with a limited number of 1500 each. The two minifigures are LEGO Arsenal (Red Arrow) and LEGO All New Captain America (Sam Wilson).

The SDCC exclusive minifigures are even rarer and more coveted than the sets. Prices on eBay are currently around the $130-$150 range on each of the two minifig. Keep in mind that appreciation on SDCC minifigs tends to be much greater than on the sets. To give you an idea, the 2013 and 2014 SDCC minifigures are in the $250-$500 range, or even more – if you are lucky enough to find them. âž¡ SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON LEGO BIONICLE MASK: There was also a special trans-green LEGO BIONICLE Skull Scorpio Mask available at this year’s Comic Con. This one currently sells on eBay for around $25-$40, so this is the least expensive of the exclusives. You can find the current listings here: 2015 SDCC LEGO BIONICLE MASK ON EBAY

If you got any of these sets or minifigures at the convention as a giveaway or for the original price, feel free to enjoy them, or offer them up for sale to buy something else you want more – it’s up to you. If you are paying a premium price however to ad them to your collection. I suggest that you try to get them as pristine condition as possible to retain value. Always insist on getting pictures of the actual item listed on the sale page (rather than a stock-photo), and get the item in its original packaging. Even if the seller offers free shipping (common on these listings), you might want to ask them to also add tracking and insurance – for a couple of dollars more you would have peace of mind that your package will arrive, or that you will get your money back.

What do you think? Do you have any of the San-Diego Comic Con LEGO exclusives? Do you collect them, or just have some of them? Which one is your favorite from this year? Are you planning to get it, or do you have it already? Would you have any other shopping tips for those who are looking for these super special items?
