LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures review

One of the most interesting releases in the new LEGO Star Wars line is the LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures. They are based on a similar building style as other LEGO Constraction Figures you mostly find in the LEGO Hero Factory and LEGO BIONICLE lines, but also appear in other themes like LEGO Legends of Chima. LEGO Constraction Figures are assembled very differently than regular LEGO sets, and more resemble traditional action figures. Each character is built on a LEGO Technic-type skeleton, and covered with various plates to form the bulk of the body. The figures are very sturdy with great posability. Although the pieces used are different than what you find in regular LEGO sets, most of them have at least one attachment point to incorporate them into LEGO building system. 🙂

LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures Review

The LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures weren’t received with much enthusiasm when they were first revealed, however that all changed when the six sets were actually released and people had a chance to try them. Although there are some minor issues that we will discuss below, all in all the LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures are very large, very posable, and very fun. Also, the new LEGO Constraction Figure pieces made just for this line are excellent, and the detail of printing on each of the figures is gorgeous. In the video-player below you can watch JANGBRiCKS review each of the characters, and below that I will also share some of my thoughts.

#75107 LEGO STAR WARS JANGO FETT: Jango Fett is one of the coolest characters in the galaxy, and much of that is reflected in this LEGO Star Wars Battle Figure. The colors, the printing, and the upper body in general are wonderful. What I don’t like so much is the skinniness of the transition between the torso and legs, those pathetic little blaster pistols, and even more pathetic jetpack. However you can bulk those up on your own, if you like. Overall a great looking character with so much posability for great action! Here is the official description: Battle the Jedi with Jango Fett as you’ve never seen him before! This amazing buildable LEGO version of the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter is built for intense play and has lots of great details, including fully posable limbs, a jetpack with flick missile shooting function, 2 buildable blaster pistols, holsters and detailed, metal-look armour. It’s time to arm up and go hunt some Jedi! Stands over 9” (24cm) tall. 85 pieces. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures Jango and Cody

#75108 LEGO STAR WARS COMMANDER CODY: Another awesome character from the Star Wars universe. Very similar to the Jango Fett figure as far as construction, however there are some differences worth pointing out. While the helmet looks great, because of the shape, it doesn’t have as much posability as Jango’s helmet – making Cody look like that he has a stiff neck. Another issue is that because most of the body panels are white, the black LEGO Technic skeleton shows prominently when looking at the figure from the back- especially at the legs. The blaster riffle looks much better and more imposing than the puny guns given to Jango. As long as you don’t expose Commander Cody’s backside he looks totally awesome. Here is the official description: Lead the Clone Army into battle with super-tough Clone Commander Cody! This amazing buildable LEGO figure has everything you need to recreate intense battles from the Star Wars saga, including fully posable limbs, custom orange clone armor, and buildable blaster rifle and backpack. So suit up, grab your weapon and prepare for battle! Stands over 9” (23cm) tall. 82 pieces. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

#75109 LEGO STAR WARS OBI-WAN KENOBI: LEGO did a really good job mimicking the Jedi robes on this figure by using some small LEGO Technic panels, which also covers up the skinniness of the torso and legs connection that is so prominent on the other figures. The attachment of the cape is a bit strange, but I understand why it was done that way. The head is the piece that looks most non-LEGO-ish. Realistic looking facial features just don’t blend well with the style of LEGO, and thus in this whole series the helmeted characters look significantly better. Frankly, I find the faces of many real action figures quite creepy too, so I don’t think LEGO is out of line here, and we do need Obi-Wan to fight Grievous. Here is the official description: Command the Clone Army against the Separatists with buildable Obi-Wan Kenobi. With durable, fully posable limbs, special white Clone armour, fabric cape, buildable blue Lightsaber and a holster with extra Lightsaber handle, this LEGO Jedi Master is ready for tough action play! Stands over 9” (25cm) tall. 83 pieces. Price: $24.99 – BUY HERE

LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures Obi-Wan & Luke

#75110 LEGO STAR WARS LUKE SKYWALKER: This is the second LEGO Star Wars Battle Figure with a human head, which makes the figure look a bit strange. However the posability of this character is excellent, and when you pair him up with Darth Vader, you can recreate the epic battle scene between the two! Here is the official description: Defeat the evil Empire with buildable Luke Skywalker! This amazingly detailed LEGO version of one of the galaxy’s most powerful Jedi Knights is armed with tough, fully posable limbs, buildable green Lightsaber and blaster pistol, handcuffs and a holster with extra Lightsaber handle—everything he needs to take on the power of the dark side! Stands over 9” (24cm) tall. 83 pieces. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

#75111 LEGO STAR WARS DARTH VADER: This is the figure that the LEGO Constraction style fits works best for. The size, the shapes, the colors, all come together perfectly. I’m particularly impressed with the shaping of the chest and the back. The other, more skinny figures would have greatly benefited from the detailing used here. Of course this is a more expensive figure with more pieces, so that is something to take into consideration. But overall I think this is the best of the entire line. The Dark Side definitely rules! Here is the official description: Feel the power of the dark side with Darth Vader! This buildable LEGO version of iconic Sith Lord Vader has all the details you’d expect, including fully posable limbs, black armoured suit, fabric cape and a buildable red Lightsaber. Harness the power of the dark side and prepare for intense action play! Stands over 11” (28cm) tall. 160 pieces. Price: $29.99 – BUY HERE

LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures Vader & Grievous

#75112 LEGO STAR WARS GENERAL GRIEVOUS: This is the largest and most menacing looking of all the LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures, and also the most expensive one. This is another character where the LEGO Constraction style works really well, even with very little outer paneling. The arms that can separate are a clever touch. Overall a really imposing character, great for both play and display. Here is the official description: Lead the Separatist Droid Army with super-tough General Grievous as you’ve never seen him before! This amazing buildable LEGO version of the feared Supreme Commander features fully posable limbs, 2-into-4 separating arms and 4 buildable Lightsabers. This ultra-fast General is ready for intense battle! Stands over 11” (30cm) tall. 186 pieces. Price: $34.99 – BUY HERE

LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures Fight Scene

All in all the LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures turned out to be surprisingly good looking and enjoyable. They all have a sturdy and durable design for intense action play, and they also look excellent on display. The posability is really fun to experiment with and works very well. I would say that the best looking of the bunch are Darth Vader and General Grievous. Followed by Commander Cody and Jango Fett, although both of these would have benefited from some extra paneling. My least favorite ones are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, however they do look excellent in a battle-scene paired with their foes. The above mentioned six sets are currently available, and six more are coming early next year. You can find them under the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

I do not like these… Not even a little. I think Luke looks scary, Obi-Wan looks okay as everyone else. General Grievous looks very good, I might end up buying just Grievous because it looks well constructed. I have bought a figure like this (Buzz Lightyear) that size and your right it is actually pretty fun! But in my opinion, Luke looks very creepy, his face looks like a Barbie doll. I know my rant sounds crazy but I think everything else is pretty cool.

I agree that Luke looks the weirdest. It is just the combination of a realistic head with a more LEGO-ish body. But as I said; I find most action figures creepy. General Grievous looks so awesome because he looks the least human. 🙄
