LEGO Star Wars new heroes & villains

In the September-October issue of the LEGO Club Magazine there is a 10-page insert focusing on the new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets and characters. We have already discussed the new LEGO Star Wars sets (see: LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Reviews), but since the film won’t be released until December, we don’t fully know how the sets and characters fit into the plot. However the LEGO Club Magazine gives us some clues, especially about the new heroes and villains. So let’s take a look. 🙂

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens - LEGO Club Magazine

The LEGO Club Magazine insert starts out with summarizing the saga so far: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… for thousands of years, the peaceful Galactic Republic governed the galaxy. Made up of countless worlds and star systems, it was protected by the Jedi Knights, an order of guardians and warriors who wielded the mystical power of the Force. But the Jedi were betrayed and the Republic fell. In its place rose a cruel Galactic Empire, ruled by a mighty Sith Lord, who had mastered the dark side of the Force – and his apprentice, the dreaded Darth Vader. An alliance of brave rebel heroes gathered to oppose the Empire’s tyranny. In a series of daring battles, they defeated the Emperor’s evil plans and ended the threat of the dark side forever. This December a new adventure will begin. Once, the Republic struggled against the Separatists. Then the Rebel Alliance fought the Empire. Now the galaxy has erupted in a new conflict, as the Resistance faces the furious onslaught of the First Order!”

Then, right in the middle of the insert, there is a two-page spread with all the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters. Each of them have a little bio so you can see what roles they play in this epic saga. Some of them are old friends, others are brand new characters:

Definitely helps identify some of the characters in the sets. Although I still can’t see around where the First Order came from… obviously the Empire in origin, but… why? 😕 And why is there a “resistance” when the Rebellion defeated the Empire? These questions the movie better answer well.
Also admin, some typos: Captain Plasma? I think it’s Phasma, and she comes in the #75103 First Order Transporter, not the Falcon. And it says the Stormtrooper wears sleek armor, not “sleep” armor. 😉

    • admin September 29, 2015, 11:15 AM

Those were my questions as well. Who exactly is the First Order is not clear – besides that they are the badguys. Maybe they are like neo-Empire fans or something. It was LEGO itself that listed Phasma in the #75105 set. I just double checked. I guess you have to double check even official information from LEGO. LOL! Fixed the other typos – thanks for pointing them out. BTW, sleep armor is a special type of armor that puts your enemies to sleep. 😈

More “ethnic” faces on the minifig heads… Could be useful…

  • legostuff71 September 29, 2015, 12:54 PM

I wonder if that is why this wave (star wars) is a lot more expensive, because of the newer molds ?

    • admin September 29, 2015, 4:31 PM

That is the excuse LEGO fans try to give LEGO to justify the ever increasing prices. Whether that is true or not is another matter…

      • Diamond655 November 8, 2015, 9:05 AM

Actually, Admin, it seems likely that BB-8 and the blade on Kylo Ren’s lightsaber are new parts. Doesn’t justify the prices(A whopping 2-3 new molds. The smallest should cost $100. /s) but…

We’re still missing a good sized chunk of information here. I can see how the far scattered remains of the Empire could reform into the First Order, (which sounds totally wicked btw,) but how did the Rebel Alliance go from victory to the Reisitance? Was the Rebels reign only momentary, meaning they were quickly overpowered once more? If not, how did a war erupt, more importantly, what was the war like? Did the Rebels fall swiftly, or was it like the great Clone Wars all over again with the, “good guys,” bearing more of an upper hand? At any rate I really do like the look of these sets. An orange and black X-Wing? I don’t remember sending any emails to Lego or Disney…

Yeah, it sounds like after all that struggle and sacrifice, peace didn’t last long. Kind of discouraging, but then we wouldn’t have a good movie with lightsabers and starships and all. 😐

  • Legostuff71 September 29, 2015, 7:08 PM

So, what do you think the reason is?

    • admin September 29, 2015, 8:44 PM

If people are willing to pay more, why not raise the prices? 🙄

  • Legostuff71 September 29, 2015, 10:51 PM

That’s a high risk business wise and if not careful it can lead business problems in the future .

    • admin September 29, 2015, 10:57 PM

Exactly. LEGO already has the reputation of being a very expensive toy. Not to speak of having it as a full-blown hobby. However as far as I know LEGO is doing just fine as far as sales right now, so there is no reason for them to lower prices. There is a fine balance between increasing profits and also keeping customers happy. One thing that is going really well for LEGO is that it also have the reputation of being a premium, high-quality toy, so people are willing to pay for it. However if major quality issues start to show up, that reputation can change very quickly.

  • Legostuff71 September 30, 2015, 12:12 AM

Thanks for the input . I know I ask these deep questions and don’t want Be a pain about it .I know LEGO knows what they are doing . They have been in business for a long time. I just wish they would tell us so people like me won’t get mixed feed back from other people.

    • Håkan September 30, 2015, 8:45 AM

Well, pricing is a business decision, and they would be very secretive about the reasoning to avoid giving out advantages to their competition.

      • admin September 30, 2015, 9:28 AM

Yes, that is a good point as well.

    • admin September 30, 2015, 9:34 AM

These are very good questions and not something that has an easy answer. But in general all markets have these pushing and pulling forces of sellers wanting to get as much as they can for their product, while buyers wanting to pay as little as they can. Which is complicated by human emotions like if something is too cheap, people stop appreciating it. And of course the price of raw materials, transportation, labor, taxes and the competition also has to be taken into consideration. Economics is actually a pretty fascinating subject, so if you ever have a chance to study it a bit, I would suggest you look into it. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 September 30, 2015, 11:04 AM

I under stand economics, and to some degree I am starting to under stand LEGO .one: LEGO does not make garbage and they stand by there product ( LEGO is going to out live me). Two: because of that LEGO can change the prices up or down. You are getting their best of their best.

    • admin September 30, 2015, 11:57 AM

Yes, I think you summarized it perfectly. 🙂

  • COZ September 30, 2015, 1:06 PM

Again, who is missing? You guessed it, Luke!

  • Michael November 2, 2015, 4:24 PM

Any chance of the winter The Force Awakens sets being available before Christmas?

    • admin November 2, 2015, 6:50 PM

Michael, it is possible, but I wouldn’t count on it. Sometimes the January sets appear just before or just after Christmas, but it is not guaranteed. They are scheduled for January.

      • Michael November 3, 2015, 1:39 PM

Thanks for the reply. I won’t count on it but I will keep an eye out for them just before Christmas.
