September 2015 – new LEGO sets & promotions

September is super exciting because of the new LEGO Star Wars set related to the upcoming film. In addition, a new month means new promotions, so let’s take a look at what LEGO has to offer us this time! 🙂

LEGO Store Calendar September 2015

LEGO CREATOR TOY SHOP & FREE SET: The freebie this month is the #30284 LEGO Creator Tractor, available with any $50 purchase from September 1-20. It is not particularly special, but it’s free, so we can’t complain. Also, LEGO VIP members will have early access to the #10249 LEGO Creator Winter Village Toy Shop starting on September 16th. If you plan to get this set I recommend to buy it as soon as it is available as the LEGO Winter Village sets always sell out early. General release will be on October 1st, but by that time it is likely the set will be on backorder and hard to find. See preview here: LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop Coming! and find it under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#10249 LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop

LEGO STAR WARS FREE POSTER & NEW SETS: September is going to be huge for LEGO Star Wars as the new “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” sets will be unveiled on September 4th, also referred to as “Force Friday”. We will talk about the sets in more detail on that day. In addition, the fifth LEGO Star Wars Collectible Poster will be available from September 21-27 with any LEGO Star Wars purchase. As we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Star Wars Posters Collection for 2015), there are six free collectible posters – one for each episode – but the time you can get them is quite short so you need to pay attention to the dates. Once available, find the new sets at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO NINJAGO VIP POINT & TEMPLE OF AIRJITZU: The #70751 LEGO Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu is now available to the general public not just LEGO VIP members. Please note that this is a LEGO exclusive, so it is only available directly from LEGO, and perhaps some select retailers. It is a gorgeous set that we have reviewed in detail a few days ago (see: LEGO Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu Review). In addition, LEGO VIP members will get Double VIP Points on the #70748 LEGO Ninjago Titanium Dragon, and the #70749 LEGO Ninjago Enter the Serpent sets during the entire month. All the sets are listed at the LEGO Ninjago section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO IDEAS WALL-E: While the release of the #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E set was scheduled for the beginning of this month, it was pushed back towards the end of the month due to some minor quality issues with the neck. It is however available at some retailers, so you could either buy it now, or wait until the improved version gets released. Also, don’t forget about the #21302 LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory that was released last month. You can find it under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

There is the really cute #40122 LEGO Trick or Treat set for Halloween. And also all three of the LEGO Advent Calendars are now available: #75097 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, #60099 LEGO City Advent Calendar and #41102 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar. You can find them all under the Seasonal Items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#40122 LEGO Trick or Treat Halloween Set

This month the big thing is undoubtedly going to be LEGO Star Wars, but don’t forget about the huge wave of new sets that were released last month! If you are planning to get several sets to meet the minimum for free shipping, I would suggest you also check out those to pad your order. You can read the detailed list of new sets from August here: August 2015 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions. Some of the highlights include the new LEGO Ninjago sets, the new LEGO Friends sets, new LEGO Elves sets, new LEGO Scooby-Doo sets, new LEGO Minecraft sets, new LEGO Technic sets and more. Don’t forget there is also the new Lego Seasonal vignette, Trick or Treat! It looks to be a neat little build and comes with a skeleton.

I picked up one of these over the weekend at a local Lego store. It wasn’t showing on the online store until this morning.

I am a bit bummed that I have to wait a few more weeks to get Wall-E, but if it is to improve the model I guess it will be worth it. Meanwhile, I will be trying to find the new minifigures locally.

Thanks for mentioning that. I have added both the Halloween set and the Advent Calendars to the article. Yeah, what happened to WALL-E is really a shame, but I hope LEGO will be able to fix the issues.

The Wall-E issue is turning out to be more major than before (for the US), and it was explained on Brickset: http://brickset.com/article/16465/what-s-wrong-with-21303-wall•e Now there are two problems. 😕
I will withhold my essay on the SW sets until Friday, but for now I will note that there’s not much to be excited about, besides spoilers. That’s all.
I am definitely going to look for Series 14: I must have the Specter! Possibly Plant-man as well. Other than that, I’m focusing on Jun/Aug sets.

Yeah, I read that article this morning. There are actually three problems; two with the neck, and the fact that the treads don’t work on smooth surfaces – although I doubt that will be fixed. The neck is really the major issue. If you watch the review by the BrickShow, you will see how ridiculous it is. As far as Star Wars, the only thing I like is the new X-wing and that little droid thingy. The Falcon also has some nice upgrades. But I agree with you; there are so many new sets to choose from even from the summer releases!

I don’t count the tracks not working on smooth surfaces as a problem; in my experience that’s the case for every set that includes plastic tread pieces. It’s just physics: smooth on smooth = no friction; no friction means the tracks won’t turn. I watched the Brickshow review, and oeí, that neck is flimsy. I think the base of the neck needs a stronger attachment to the body as well.
You say the Falcon has nice upgrades… I’m trying hard to not start noting everything wrong with it. It’s a modified 7965, it’s no good. However, this gives me more time for my Falcon project…. 😉

Yeah, it seems that WALL-E’s neck may need a complete redesign. Although I have heard that they are particularly bad in the US. Like we got a bad batch or something. And the European stock is somewhat better. I don’t know… I’m starting to debate if I want to get it at all. I already have a super cute mini WALL-E and EVE and M-O and I may just stay with them. The only thing that really interest me is the printed tiles. I could use them to design a little stand for the mini characters. As far as the Falcon, I’m not going to debate about it because my interest in it is kind of lukewarm. There are some features I like on the new one, but I’m sure there are just as many negatives. The only one I really like is the X-wing, but probably won’t get that either. There are so many other sets I’m more interested in. 🙂

What happened to the Doctor Who set??? I really want that one!

    • admin September 1, 2015, 2:35 PM

The Doctor Who set is scheduled to come out in December.

My local TRU had Wall-E so I bought him and his head at the neck joint, is definitely loose. I read on the LEGO Ideas blog site, someone had temporarily fixed it with a piece of tape, which I tried and it’s definitely a stop gap. I’m not upset though because I knew that people were already talking about it . But talk about a fun build! The techniques used are pretty awesome. And he looks amazing. I’m sure LEGO will have a fix soon for those of us who bought it and when the delay ends and they release him again, I can only imagine he’ll be better.

So excited for the Halloween minifigures! I’m gonna go look soon at Freddies or Target. And waiting like the rest for Wall-E. Can’t wait to get my hands on him.

    • admin September 5, 2015, 2:14 PM

Yeah, the minifigs are great for Halloween! Great timing from LEGO! If you would like to pick up WALL-E now he is available at several retailers. You may need to request replacement parts though for the week connections. And there is also a guide to make the neck stronger. 😉
