New LEGO elements in 2016 – Part 3

(Written by BLProductions)

It is now March, with a whole new wave of LEGO sets just released, which means we can continue our discussion on new LEGO elements for 2016 (you can read the previous sessions here: Part 1 and Part 2). For some reason LEGO hasn’t been adding all the new parts to their set inventories, so it is a bit difficult to hunt down pictures and details, however I was able to find 74 new elements for this year just by looking at pictures of the newly released and upcoming sets.

#31047 LEGO Creator

Please note that this doesn’t even include all of the specialized LEGO Nexo Knights and LEGO Bionicle parts – so yeah, there are a lot of new parts for this year, and I’m sure more will come. I will divide today’s article into two sections: the first will contain new elements that appear in currently released sets, and the second will have elements that come in sets being released later this year. So let’s take a look. 🙂

#31049 LEGO Creator

New LEGO Technic Elements: There is only one element I will cover here, Beam 1M W/Cross Axle (Design ID: 22961), which I mentioned in a previous part to this series, but now I have more accurate information. It’s color is only medium-stone-grey, and it currently appears in twelve sets that you can view here. This element will also appear in the #31049 LEGO Creator Dual Rotor Helicopter being released this summer (see above), and we can also expect it in at least one summer LEGO Technic set.

2016 LEGO Elements Beam With Cross Axle

New LEGO Functional Elements: I also showed these two parts in a previous article, but now we have better images. They are the Mini Shooter W/3.2 Shaft (Design ID 22487 – comes in silver-metallic) and 3.2 Shaft W/5.9 Ball (Design ID 22484 – comes in translucent-fluorescent-red-orange and translucent-bright-green). The latter of these is a mini spring-shooter arrow, and it’s quite versatile – given that one end is a normal shaft and the other is a ball that fits with the LEGO Mixels joints. Both parts appear together in these four sets, and in the #70320 LEGO Nexo Knights Aaron Fox’s Aero-Striker V2 that will be released this summer.

New LEGO Elements 7

New LEGO Plates and Bricks: The first of the three elements I will mention in this category is the Flat Tile 1X1 ½ Circle (Design ID 24246), which comes in white in three Series 7 LEGO Mixels: #41555 Busto, #41559 Paladum and #41562 Trumpsy, and two Series 8 LEGO Mixels: #41563 Splasho and #41571 Tuth. LEGO has not added this part to their inventories as of yet, but there is an excellent article on Brickset about this piece, which shows various neat applications.

New LEGO Elements 8

Another part LEGO has failed to add to their set inventories is what I call Brick 1X2X1 2/3 W. 4 Knobs. So far it appears in medium-stone-grey in the #10251 LEGO Creator Brick Bank and the #31047 LEGO Creator Propeller Plane, bright-purple in the #41141 LEGO Disney Princess Pumpkin’s Royal Carriage, and bright-red in the #60110 LEGO City Fire Station. It also comes in grey in the #40223 LEGO Seasonal Christmas Ornament, which is a promotional set for the winter of 2016.

New LEGO Elements 9

Now let’s move into the un-released elements, starting with Left Plate 2X2 W/Angle and Right Plate 2X2 W/Angle. These are shorter versions of normal angle plates and appear together in all the sets in which they exist so far. These sets, listed with their respective colors, are as follows: medium-azure in the #75148 LEGO Star Wars Encounter on Jakku, medium-stone-grey in the #75149 LEGO Star Wars Resistance X-Wing Fighter and the #76051 LEGO Super Heroes Super Hero Airport Battle, white in the #75828 LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & Ecto-2, bright-yellow in the #75870 LEGO Speed Champions Chevrolet Corvette Z06, bright-red in the #75874 LEGO Speed Champions Chevrolet Camaro Drag Race, and black in the #75873 LEGO Speed Champions Audi R8 LMS Ultra. They are easily seen on the sides of the creature from the #75148 LEGO Star Wars set, pictured below.

#75148 LEGO Star Wars

NEW LEGO Assorted Elements: The first part from this category I want to mention is what I call Ø3.2 Shaft W/ Cored Knob, which is a transparent-colored element first seen in the recently revealed #75828 LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & Ecto-2. It also comes in three LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man sets being released this summer: the #76057 Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle, the #76058 Ghost Rider Team-Up, and the #76059 Doc Ock’s Tentacle Trap. I think this part will be very useful, and not just for minifig-accessories, so hopefully LEGO designers will have more uses for it in future sets.

New LEGO Elements 10

Perhaps equally useful will be a part I have named Bar Ø3.2 W/Tube Ø3.2 Hole, which is pretty much this part with a bar instead of a clip. I’ve so far found it in black in the #60121 LEGO City Volcano Exploration Truck, the #60122 LEGO City Volcano Crawler, and the #60124 LEGO City Volcano Exploration Base. My guess is it will be as useful as the above-linked part 6015891, which has been used quite often in LEGO sets since its first apperance in 2013. Also, note the new fence piece used in black on the front of the #60122 LEGO City Volcano set below.

#60122 LEGO City

New LEGO Minifigure Accessories: Of all the new minifigure accessories (and there are lots – thanks to LEGO Nexo Knights), I will mention only one: the Mini Hot Dog Bun. This brick-yellow element became instantly popular amongst LEGO fans, as the previously released sausage element fits right into it! It comes in four sets: the #41129 LEGO Friends Amusement Park Hot Dog Van, the #41130 LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster, the #60134 LEGO City Fun at the Park, and the #75824 LEGO Angry Birds Pig City Teardown.

#41129 LEGO Friends

Although today we only covered 10 of the 74 pieces I have found so far in 2016 LEGO sets, I will stop here. As I mentioned, LEGO’s failure to add new pieces to their inventories has made it difficult to accurately document them all. So it is quite possible that some newly available sets contain elements that we missed. If you have a 2016 LEGO set that comes with a piece I mentioned in this series of articles, but I haven’t listed the set, please mention it in the comments. You can view all the newly released 2016 LEGO sets under the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop.

So what do you think? How do you like the new LEGO elements mentioned here? Do you find any of them to be exceptionally useful? Are there any other elements you found that we haven’t discussed yet? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

Interesting how many new elements we got this year. One more I would like to add to your list is the new vehicle base from the Mighty Micros sets. So far it only appears on those sets, as far as I know.

Good call! That is indeed a new piece! 😀

    • BLProductions March 5, 2016, 1:55 PM

Actually there are two new Mighty Micros parts, the wheel base and the 4X4 Mudguard. The Mudguard is actually 1 of the 3 pieces LEGO added to their inventories on March 1, albeit only in two colors: http://brickset.com/parts/6143741 Both pieces are currently exclusive to the Mighty Micros, as you said. 🙂

Yeah, that new small wheelbase is sweet! And I just found another new part! The Giant Ant Man’s face is a new 2x4x2 half cylinder that is unique to the set. I really hope that LEGO will make this piece available in other colors as well, as I would love to build more giant figures! 😀

Uh… ok, it looks new. Do you have the set, and the actual part? Do you know how it is attached on Ant-Man (studs-up or SNOT)? It looks like a useful part, and rather similar to this Duplo piece: https://brickset.com/parts/4620663
I’ll document it, along with the new windshield on 76047 that I should have added weeks ago.

          • admin March 5, 2016, 5:50 PM

It is not like a DUPLO piece, but a regular half cylinder. But this is the first time a half-cylinder comes in this size. Here is a picture of the piece: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=24593pb01&idColor=86#T=C&C=86

Thanks for the link; I’ve documented the part. With that and the cockpit from 76047 I’ve now got 76 total new parts, and I probably can find more if I tried. But now I need to find some good pictures of all those parts…. 😐

The tiny little crowns that come with the Palace Pets also look new to me as does the goggle in Treasure’s Day at the Pool that are on Treasures head. However, the goggles might have been in an earlier Friends set.

I also found it interesting that the small bow slopes in Pumpkins Carriage Ride from the Palace Pets series were printed rather that stickered.

    • admin March 5, 2016, 2:02 PM

There are some of those printed bow pieces in other LEGO Disney sets as well. Like in #41053 Cinderella’s Dream Carriage. I collect unique printed pieces, so I keep an eye out for them in new sets. 😉

      • Will March 5, 2016, 7:12 PM

That’s weird, I though we had to sticker the slopes on Cinderella’s carriage…This is making my head hurt.

But those tiny crowns are new, right?

        • admin March 5, 2016, 9:01 PM

#41053 has no stickers, which is always nice. Yeah, I believe that very tiny crown is a new piece.

        • BLProductions March 5, 2016, 9:51 PM

The crowns are new, and we can tell because they’re not in LEGO’s set inventories. 😉

The springshooter arrow looks like the Fabuland drumstick… That shows my age…

    • Will March 5, 2016, 7:11 PM

I missed out on that set.

I think the only Fabuland set I had involved a fire truck, I think?

I recall a yellow ladder on a red base and a red rounded top brick with what looked to be a yellow design for a vehicle. I want to say it had a pig person.

I think I would have prefered a set that featured a drum stick.

      • Håkan March 5, 2016, 7:46 PM

Rare part, easily lost, hence quite expensive. I think I only have one left…

        • BLProductions March 5, 2016, 10:25 PM

Cool pieces. Those are definitely similar to the new mini arrows. Maybe one stud longer? Perhaps it’s possible to fire the drumstick out of the new shooter element, instead of the new arrow. That would be neat.
@Will I think something’s wrong in your description of your Fabuland set, as I didn’t find any sets that matched it in a search of that theme’s sets. There were a large number of fire trucks though…. 😕

    • admin March 5, 2016, 8:57 PM

Wow! I have never seen that piece before! Always learning something! 😀
