LEGO Collectible Disney Minifigs review

The LEGO Collectible Disney Minifigures we talked about recently (see: LEGO Collectible Disney Minifigures Coming!) are going to be officially released on May 1st, but are already available at many local retailers. If you are fan of the various Disney characters and would like to collect them all, or if you just want to pick up a few for your special projects, or just for the accessories, this series provides a great variety. Please note that there are eighteen characters in this collection rather than the usual sixteen. 🙂

LEGO Collectible Disney Minifigures Details

We have analyzed the characters in our previous discussion, so I won’t repeat that information here, but I wanted to share with you the following review video by JANGBRiCKS, where he shows you each of the minifigures and their accessories in great detail. For your reference, the minifigures included in this series are: Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, Alice and the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Captain Hook from Peter Pan, the evil witch Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Ariel and Ursula from The Little Mermaid, the Genie and Aladdin from Aladdin, Stitch from Lilo & Stitch, Mr. Incredible and Syndrome from The Incredibles, and Buzz Lightyear and an Alien from Toy Story.

The LEGO Collectible Disney Minifigures have been spotted and Target, Wal-Mart, and Toys’R’Us stores, and will also be available on May 1st at LEGO stores and the LEGO Minifigures section of the Online LEGO Shop.

My response to anything Disney is always “ugh” but these don’t even look Lego.

    • admin April 29, 2016, 11:16 AM

Yeah, Disney is not everyone’s favorite. I don’t like all of the characters, but some of them are very-very cute. My favorite is Stich. I have him right here on my desk, and he is absolutely adorable. There are some other characters I really like too, like Peter Pan, Alice, and Aladdin. Also, I thought I won’t like this version of Buzz Lightyear, but I actually do! This may be one of those series you may not want to collect, but just pick and choose some of the minifigs you find useful for your own creations. For example Aladdin and Alice are generic enough that they would work great in any village setting, and Peter Pan in a fantasy setting. Their accessories are very nice. 🙂

I’m sticking with Maleficent and possibly Alice and Ursula only….

    • admin April 29, 2016, 12:00 PM

Malificent is gorgeous. I really like her headgear. Alice is really sweet and could easily be used as a village girl in LEGO Castle and other settings. I don’t like her face that much, but it could be swapped out. Her accessories are also some of the most useful: a printed bottle in a unique color, and a printed cookie. I don’t like Ursula very much. Her face is ugly, her hairpiece is ugly because it is so flat at the back, but that bottom piece is very interesting and could be used in unusual ways.

Isn’t Ursula meant to be ugly?… At least unpleasant…

The success of these characters seems to be depending on the source material… The Genie and Ursula have a flowing animation that might be harder to pull off correctly…

Then, personally, I think the biggest fails are for Mickey and Minnie, as well as Donald and Daisy… They don’t look like characters as much as Disneyland actors…

        • admin April 29, 2016, 4:54 PM

Yes, of course Ursula is supposed to be ugly, but what I meant is that LEGO usually manages to make even scary characters and ugly badguys/gals kind of cute. Cute ugly. Does that make sense? I don’t like Ursula’s face and her hairpiece is really flat on the back. They could have used Syndrome’s hair in white. That hairpiece is amazing – one of my favorite pieces from this series.

I actually do like Mickey, Minnie, and the ducks. I would say that the girls look better than the boys, but all four of them are quite adorable. I agree though that they look more like costumes than the original characters.

My least favorites are Captain Hook, the Genie, and Ursula. I don’t like their faces. And while Captain Hook’s hat is a very elaborate piece, the dark-red color is not as nice as in regular LEGO sets. Kind of dull and even a bit translucent. On smaller pieces this is not a problem, but on such a large piece it is quite apparent that it is not up to LEGO’s usual standards.

Of course this is just my opinion. Others will likely have other favorites and least favorites. 🙂

Agree completely with your comments on both Alice and Ursula. Given I mainly build castle, Maleficent and Alice will be very much for that purpose. Ursula is absolutely for the bottom piece only…

I only want a few of them and the ones I want should be easy to feel for when I do the annual “feeling” packages for the ones we need or want much easier.

    • admin April 29, 2016, 11:55 AM

I’m sure William will write a feel guide for this series, but I just went through a whole box and had some observations. While there are a lot of very unique large pieces in this series, because they are so unfamiliar it is hard to feel for them. I actually found these minifigs the hardest to feel for from all of the series. Also, there is a significant lack of small accessories, which are usually much more reliable to identify. One of the most confusing pieces I found was the pirate hat. It is really big and has a very strange shape. Also Ariel’s hair felt really weird. All in all I spent much more time going through a box of these minifigs with any of the previous series. Of course results may vary, but that was my experience

I know that I’m the only one who feels this way, (sarcasm) but Malificents head piece and outfit is amazing. Even her head could be reused for some vampiress, ghost or what not. Mickey Mouse reminds me of the old, old, days, (even though I wasn’t alive then) but he also looks like a bizarre killer from a horror movie.

    • admin April 29, 2016, 9:48 PM

You are not the only one who likes Malificent. So far all the reviews I have read mentioned how amazing her headgear is, also that beautiful black and purple cape, her face, and other details. Bizarre Killer Mouse… now I’m getting scared of mine! 😈

IMO, the worst one in this line is Syndrome. I haven’t seen many people talking about him.

I like most things about him, but that face looks just plain ugly and they should have used shorter legs to show the height difference between him and Mr. Incredible.

    • admin May 2, 2016, 4:57 PM

Yes, I agree that Syndrome’s legs should have been short. He actually does have some very nice details on his sleeves and boots, so he is not all bad. Also the hair piece is phenomenal. The face is ugly though – like you said. I’m only keeping him because of the hair.

How have those that have gotten their figures felt for Donald, Cheshire Cat and Maleficent? Can’t find these and really want them.

    • admin May 3, 2016, 9:13 PM

Jen, Donald and Daisy has pretty big round heads, so they are easy to feel for right away. Once I got the big head with the duck-bill, I felt for the hat. This differentiates Donald from Daisy. The Cheshire Cat was weird. The head is big and round as several of the other characters, but the tail feels so odd, it is hard to miss. It is made of a softer plastic, and it has this square piece where the tail slides over the torso. It is hard to describe without feeling it. If this is too difficult of an explanation, once you find the big round head, feel for the short legs. They don’t bend, so it is easy to identify them. For Malificent, the easiest piece to feel for is the sloped skirt. It is large, and cannot be mistaken for anything else.

These minifigures are like sasquatch. I’ve seen pictures, have heard people talk about them, but I have yet to see them in the wild. These things are incredibly hard to find!

    • admin May 10, 2016, 11:51 AM

Justin, you may want to try again as officially they were only released a few days ago. At least in my area I found Toys’R’Us the most reliable in carrying them. Target and Wal-Mart are hit or miss. They still have some of the older series though.

Granted I’m not a long time Lego fan simply a collector of select mini figures, I have to disagree with a lot of your comments: I love Disney and think these mini figures are terrific! They are so cute & will make a great addition to the framed collection my son & I are working on. The colors are vibrant & the shapes are unique. I like that they made the mice & ducks larger than the Toy Story figures. Thanks also to the “admin” for their tips and trying to find Maleficent. My son wants this one really badly.

Very good review. Thank you very much. Disney is one of my favourite series so far 🙂

The Disney characters in Lego toy looks interesting. Maybe I will buy it to gift for my younger brother in his birthday.
