As you can see, the LEGO Disney Castle is enormous in size, and includes a great amount of detail. LOL! I thought you meant you are the first to have it! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Carbo July 13, 2016, 11:33 AM

Wow. That is huge. It is also overpriced, although it is licensed by Disney I suppose. I also think this set needed lots more minifigures, especially since it recreates scenes from multiple Disney movies. However, I am a HUGE Disney fan, so I may end up buying it one day. ๐Ÿ™„

    • admin July 13, 2016, 12:16 PM

It is expected that this set will be around for a long time – kind of like the Star Wars Death Star. So you should have plenty of time to get it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • CVJ July 13, 2016, 12:31 PM

I think it’s nice but my wife wants to order this as soon as it becomes available.

    • admin July 13, 2016, 12:53 PM

He… he… yeah, this set is so awesome a lot of people don’t even look at the price-tag. “Just take my wallet, I don’t care!” ๐Ÿ˜€

  • OhioBricker July 13, 2016, 12:59 PM

I’m not a huge Disney fan, but it’s LEGO, and it’s very impressive, so my brother and I will probably get it when it’s available. I don’t think it’s overpriced, as some of the 4,000+ pieces are pretty substantial.

I’d like to know how many stickers there are before I make my final decision, but it would look pretty nice in the corner of our city.

    • admin July 13, 2016, 3:23 PM

My guess would be that most of the decorations are stickers, but we shall see. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Michelle July 13, 2016, 2:00 PM

I agree with Carbo, that is expensive!!! I think it is beautiful and as a child, I would have wanted it. Not sure if I can justify the price! Good thing I don’t have little girls…lol

    • admin July 13, 2016, 3:29 PM

Michelle, based on the piece-count it is actually cheaper than normal (8 cents a piece), so it’s not out of line – especially for a licensed set. But yeah, little girls (and big girls) are expensive in general. ๐Ÿ™„

  • Judith July 13, 2016, 4:02 PM

Looks a great set, but don’t think that I will be buying as I’ve nowhere to display it. I’d better not show the pics to my granddaughter otherwise it will be going on the Christmas list she gives me lol

  • BLProductions July 13, 2016, 7:50 PM

Well, it’s time for my full thoughts, I suppose. ๐Ÿ˜‰
This is a definite pass for me, both because I no longer like Disney much and because I can’t afford it (nor will I ever), although the price in the US is not bad for a licensed set. However, I think it’s an awesome castle, at least on the outside, and it looks more complete than any other recent LEGO castles. I also like how they made separate rooms for different movie scenes, but I still don’t quite like the minifigs, especially Tinker Bell. The others are about as good as the CMFs, although Mickey is here an improvement. I have also found numerous brilliant building techniques, and three 2016 new pieces (one is a Brick 1X2X3, new in Earth Blue). Besides new parts, I also see tons of rare and useful parts, and lots of gold. ๐Ÿ˜€ And they even managed to add stud shooters to it. ๐Ÿ˜• Overall, it’s pretty good.
Also: http://brickset.com/article/22539/21308-adventure-time-revealed! Why can’t they just recolor the Mixel joints? In my opinion, multi-colored joints was the set’s biggest appeal. Now it looks rather lackluster. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • admin July 13, 2016, 8:09 PM

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Good points. I just watched the designer-video that was released just a couple of hours ago (I will probably post it separately). This thing is massive! I like that all the colors are very useful basic castle colors. Also, some of the decorations are printed pieces, which is nice. And yes, I agree that the minifigs could have been more interesting, but I don’t think they are bad. Haven’t studied the new pieces, but now that you mention them, I will probably go back and look at them more carefully. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • BLProductions July 13, 2016, 10:13 PM

Ah, yes, printed parts are always a nice touch, I saw the brown Unikitty tails are printed. I guess though that the majority of the decorations are stickers. The golden mirror in the tower is definitely one at least.
Also, I forgot to mention the most interesting new piece I found – Dark Red Witch-King Helmets! This part: http://brickset.com/parts/6087593 . They’re used upside-down on the lamps out front, which makes the lamps one of my favorite parts of the set. That, the giant vase that uses the Ring, and all the holed 1X1 round plates make this set so interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin July 14, 2016, 11:01 AM

Clever usage for the Witch King helmet! Love it! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Icepacklady July 14, 2016, 7:58 AM

BLProductions you have said a lot of what I’m thinking myself. On the one hand lots of unique parts, and great building techniques. Lots of gold and probably a set that will be around for a while. It’s really a pretty awesome castle and it will be very popular.
On the other hand I am pretty fed up with Disney at this point and the price tag…. ouch! I realize that the cost per piece is low but over $300 on one set is hard on my wallet especially with all the Friends sets about to come out too. I just can’t do it. I don’t even want to do this at Christmas. Maybe if they don’t retire it too quickly and there is a pause in City and Creator sets that I like I’ll consider it but I have a tough time going that high for a single set.

      • admin July 14, 2016, 11:03 AM

What I like about this castle is that it doesn’t really have to be Disney. It looks like a good castle even without it. I’m glad they didn’t make it pink or something! ๐Ÿ™„

But yeah, it is pricey. For a lot of people getting several smaller sets makes more sense. LEGO has been churning out an unusual number of very large sets this year, and we are only half way through they year!

        • BLProductions July 14, 2016, 8:08 PM

Well, besides the fact that all the rooms resemble scenes from Disney movies except the bottom, it could pass as a normal non-Disney castle.
It is pricey, and its piece count makes it the 5th most expensive normal LEGO set in history (I say normal because of the $700+ Serious Play sets), but 4,080 pieces also makes it the 6th largest set in LEGO’s history by piece count. So the price isn’t completely undeserved. Of course, the Ghostbusters HQ has similar rankings, and both being 2016 sets is rather unusual. ๐Ÿ˜• Also, while we are only half-way through the year, most 2016 LEGO sets have been released. The only big set left to be revealed is the new Death Star (75159).
I don’t have to worry about the price at least. I don’t even have $350 to spend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • admin July 14, 2016, 9:26 PM

I’m thinking of writing up a summary article about all these unusually big sets once the Death Star comes out. We are really getting overloaded this year. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. LEGO fans really have to take budgeting seriously. And there has been also so many stellar medium size sets as well. It’s becoming tough to choose and manage this hobby. ๐Ÿ™„

            • BLProductions July 15, 2016, 12:37 PM

Actually, I was also thinking about possibly writing an article on large sets. I recently researched and determined the largest LEGO sets in history, which was quite interesting. Once we know the Death Star’s price and part count, I’ll have a complete list (up to 2016). Perhaps I could write an article about that?
With all the big sets this year, maybe next year will quiet down some. Maybe LEGO wants a rest from the excitement (I would ๐Ÿ™‚ ). But it definitely is becoming very difficult to choose what to get, especially for selective people. ๐Ÿ˜•

              • admin July 15, 2016, 12:39 PM

Sure, that sounds good. Let’s wait until we know more about the Death Star, then it’s all yours. I will confirm with you, in case you are busy with school or something. ๐Ÿ™‚

            • Jason July 24, 2016, 9:15 AM

Tell me about it… Some of the retired modular sets are simply unattainable and make this Disney Castle look like a “bargain”. In fact, am still kicking myself for not picking up the Pirates Imperial Flagship or Monster Fighters Haunted House from just a few years back… Really wanted to get both given they were impressive and nostalgic. Unfortunately, at the time had opted to purchase several smaller, yet “fun” sets (and ended up spending relatively the same total amount anyway).

Unfortunately, the two sets previously mentioned are now selling for 3-4x the MSRP! Oye Vay! Thinking this may be one reason why Lego is putting out such an array of larger and more detailed sets – clearly there is market demand based on online sales performance, specifically for those massive, now retired sets, whether new or used. Today, those same “fun” sets may still be easily sourced and for relatively the same price, more or less.

To some degree, Lego has now become both a hobby AND a true alternative investment as am unaware of my retirement account seeing near such returns as I have witnessed in a short period of time with seceral sets owned (or could have owned).

When this review debuted had shared with several family members. My sister AND mother called me back and stated, “Wow, it’s beautiful. When sharing the review had also attached an article on the largest and most expensive Lego sets ever created (happen to own only two…). My mom stated, “Maybe, we should buy three for (insert my two nephews and niece’s names) and put them my the attic, ILO putting money into a savings account for their college fund.” Had to laugh. ๐Ÿ˜„

Unaware of any other product (or stock for that matter) which offers such fun times, great memories and appreciates at such a level. Putting aside the notion of a hobby evolving into an alternative investment, the experience of watching kids build and play with Lego’s (or adults such as myself building, showcasing and collaborating) is priceless. For everything else, guess there is _______.

              • admin July 24, 2016, 9:32 AM

Yes, we have discussed investing in LEGO a number of times, and putting aside such large sets is the safest investment amongst all LEGO sets. My aunt, who has been helping to raise (and spoil with LEGO) many nieces, nephews grandkids, have been doing this since the ’70s. She doesn’t build with LEGO herself, but has a good taste for the best LEGO sets, and always buys extras to put aside as later gifts. She got a great savings and investments portfolio. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • greysqrl July 14, 2016, 7:26 AM

This looks amazing! Guess I’ll need to get this to sit with my modulars and haunted house!

    • admin July 14, 2016, 11:01 AM

That actually might look really good! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Tom July 14, 2016, 8:23 PM

It’s interesting. It’s a lovely model but as a non Disney fan this is not on my buy list. I’d have to get two to complete and than means dropping close to ยฃ600 on it. Whilst I’m not disputing the US price in the UK thats just too much. Also as I build primarily medieval/castle there just isn’t enough parts to keep me happy. However it will sell like crazy I’m sure..

    • admin July 14, 2016, 9:24 PM

I have heard from a number of people that they were considering getting two. But yeah, that’s some serous money!

  • Scott February 12, 2017, 5:46 PM

I purchased the castle. Would anyone please tell me why there is a grandfather clock? Is it from a movie, or just a nice piece ?

    • admin February 12, 2017, 6:44 PM

Scott, the grandfather clock is a reference to the Cinderella story, and it set to eight minutes before midnight. ๐Ÿ™‚
