LEGO Holiday Train & Death Star available!

Just a quick reminder that two brand new exclusive LEGO sets became available today for LEGO VIP members, two weeks before general release. The #10254 LEGO Winter Holiday Train, and the #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star. We have talked about both sets previously (see links at the end of this post), so I will only repeat their basic information here for your pleasure and convenience. 🙂

#10254 LEGO Holiday Train Box

#10254 LEGO WINTER HOLIDAY TRAIN: Gather the family for some festive LEGO building fun with this charming model featuring a full circle of track, boarding platform with bench and lamppost, a LEGO Power Functions upgradable train engine with brick-built smoke bellowing from its stack, coal tender, flatbed wagon with a rotating holiday tree, toys and gifts, and a red caboose with a detailed interior and table. The train engine also features large and small red-colored locomotive wheels and the train is decorated with green wreaths, string lights and white tree elements. The LEGO Holiday Train in total measures over 4” (12cm) high, 20” (52cm) long and 2” (7cm) wide. Curved rail track diameter measures over 27” (70cm). Includes 5 minifigures: a locomotive driver, ticket collector, grandmother, boy and a girl. 734 pieces (including 16 curved train tracks). Price: $99.99 – BUY HERE

As you can see, this is a super sweet set all around. Also that you get a full circle of train-tracks is a huge plus. You can run this little train around your LEGO Winter Village, LEGO city, or even your Christmas tree! While the train is fun in itself, you can also upgrade it with LEGO Power Functions for a motorized engine. Instructions can be found at the back of the building instructions to upgrade your train. To motorize the engine you will need the following: #8879 LEGO Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control ($12.99), #8884 LEGO Power Functions IR Receiver ($14.99), #88000 LEGO Power Functions AAA Battery Box ($12.99), and #88002 LEGO Power Functions Train Motor ($13.99). You can find them all under the LEGO Power Functions section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#10254 LEGO Holiday Train Coming

#75159 LEGO STAR WARS DEATH STAR: Reenact amazing scenes from the Star Wars saga with the Empire’s ultimate planet-zapping weapon—the Death Star! Measures over 16” (41cm) high, and 16” (42cm) wide. 4016 pieces. Price: $499.99 – BUY HERE

#75159 LEGo Star Wars Death Star Box Front

This is a slightly updated version of the immensely popular #10188 LEGO Star Wars Death Star, released in 2008 and retired at the end of last year. The main difference in the new set is that the minifigures got a fresh look, and some of the weaker sections of the original Death Star were fixed. Other than that, it is pretty much the exact same model. If you do not have the original, now you have a second chance to own one of the most popular LEGO Star Wars sets of all time. If you do own the previous set, you might just consider upgrading your minifigures, as there is really not that much difference between the two.

#75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star Details

Please note that the general release date for the LEGO Winter Holiday Train is October 1st, and for the LEGO Star Wars Death Star it is September 30th. I’m fairly certain that the LEGO Star Wars Death Star is going to be available through the holiday season, but the LEGO Winter Holiday Train may become hard-to-find, or even backordered as we get closer to Christmas. So if you must have one, I would suggest that you get it as soon as possible.

Is the holiday train replacing the annual village pieces now?

    • admin September 15, 2016, 12:41 PM

It is considered the 2016 Winter Village set, so if that’s what you mean, then yes. 🙂

  • Hippie-Hudson September 15, 2016, 1:43 PM

I like the winter train I think it is a smart idea from Lego as it will appeal to people who do not collect the winter village sets. I do think that the price is too high for the piece count, I know that the track is included but €104.99 and no power functions.. Hmm.

As for the Death Star I’m glad that I didn’t buy the older set before it retired as I think this will have a negative effect on the investment potential. Maybe I’m wrong here but why would you splash out ion the older one now when this is has the updated figures?

    • admin September 15, 2016, 5:03 PM

Yeah, all those people stashing away Death Stars would be better off just getting rid of them now.

      • Håkan September 15, 2016, 6:52 PM

I think the black protocol droid is still unique to the former set…

Then, I’m not really a collector, anyway,,,

  • legostuff71 September 15, 2016, 2:47 PM

The DEATH STAR is just way to much money. I could get a couple of the $ 200.00 sets and can be just as fun. Bigger doesn’t always mean it’s better.( Of course, I just finished the GHOSTBUSTER HQ , But, I got that for a birthday gift . So it didn’t cost me a thing.)

When I was at the local store getting my train another guy was there buying the train, the Disney castle AND the Death Star!

I had a doctor’s appointment so I couldn’t stick around to see if they had to administer any First Aid with the bill. 😵

      • admin September 15, 2016, 5:06 PM

The news is all about how the economy is so bad, but based on the spending habits of LEGO fans, we get a different picture. 🙄

        • Håkan September 15, 2016, 6:54 PM

Well, he obviously kept to only the necessary expenses!

          • admin September 15, 2016, 8:54 PM

Yes, of course LEGO is necessary. Especially BIG LEGO! 😀

            • Meneldur September 16, 2016, 12:25 PM

Lol! I have to agree with that! 😀

  • rainey September 15, 2016, 4:45 PM

Yay! The wait is over. I got mine this morning.

In about an hour I’m picking my grandson up from school. What fun we’re going to have for the rest of the day!

I’m saving the power equipment and extra track for next month’s purchases to take advantage of the double VIP points and to, hopefully, txt the advent calendar.

And then on Christmas Eve I’ll install the power functions to make a little Christmas morning magic. Can’t wait to see his reaction this afternoon and then again on Christmas!

    • admin September 15, 2016, 5:05 PM

Sweet! You guys are going to have an awesome time! 😀

      • rainey September 15, 2016, 10:18 PM

He ripped right through the locomotive and coal tender.

I made him wait until tomorrow for the tree and the cocoa cars.

Do you have some idea when they’ll put the parts up on Bricks & Pieces? I’d like to get some parts that are no longer available from the 10173 set to make a scaled down passenger car so the cocoa car can be a proper caboose. Mostly I need the wheel assembly and some of the gold trim pieces so it will look like it belongs.

        • rainey September 16, 2016, 10:49 AM

Lego responded to me this morning that they’ll put the parts inventory up on Bricks & Pieces on Oct 1 when the set is available to the general public.

          Looking forward to that.

          • admin September 16, 2016, 10:56 AM

Great to hear! LEGO’s customer service is always awesome! 🙂

            • rainey September 16, 2016, 12:39 PM

              AGREED!

  • greysqrl September 15, 2016, 5:21 PM

I’m a little sad that there’s no actual winter village set this year but I do like the train. Looks lovely. One to add to my Christmas list 🙂

    • admin September 15, 2016, 5:48 PM

I’m sure there will be more regular Winter Village sets in the future. People have been asking for a little train going around a village for a long time. It frames the village nicely. 🙂

    • rainey September 15, 2016, 10:29 PM

Can’t remember the BrickLink store name but a wonderful designer named Miro has designed a train station for the Winter Village. So you can have your train and a building too!

I’m sure admin can fill in what I can’t remember. And no doubt a review will come when Miro’s ready to open sales. When that time comes be sure to check out the trolley he designed last year. It’s sensational!

      • admin September 16, 2016, 11:00 AM

That’s actually a really good suggestion for someone who would also like to get a building this year. Miro said he will be in touch when his sweet train-station becomes available, and I will definitely post about it. 🙂

        • greysqrl September 19, 2016, 1:38 AM

Thank you for the suggestion 🙂

Quick question, if I may. At the moment the winter village and Santa’s workshop from last hear I believe are still available for purchase from Lego.com. Would you think that if I wait until the next double VIP points comes around (November I believe) it’s likely those products will sell out before I can buy them?

          • greysqrl September 19, 2016, 4:18 AM

Don’t worry about my question. U.K. Lego shop currently has £10 off a £40 purchase which I figured is better than double VIP points on those items 🙂

            • admin September 19, 2016, 2:29 PM

Okay, glad you found an even better solution. Finding those sets later in the year can be tough.

              • greysqrl September 20, 2016, 11:11 AM

Yep. Been very lucky. Thanks for the tips and advice 🙂

  • Judith September 16, 2016, 3:13 AM

I have to wait a couple of weeks before funds allow me to purchase the holiday train 😥

Instead, yesterday I purchased the Lego Dimensions, as it is on offer here at various UK stores……saving £35. I also purchased a couple of add on character packs for the game. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the 60051 City Train set as, that was on offer at £65. Main reason for purchasing this, was for the power functions and extra track to use on the holiday train!

Guess we don’t all have oodles of spare cash to buy every Lego set that we want, when we would like lol.

    • admin September 16, 2016, 10:58 AM

Nice you were able to get into Dimensions, it is a fun game, and the add-on packs are often on sale. Good purchase with the train too! And waiting until there is a sale is always smart. 🙂
