February 2017 – new LEGO sets & promotions

While January was the big month for the release of the first wave of 2017 sets, February is also going to be very significant. First of all, The LEGO Batman Movie is going to be in theatres on February 10th, so a lot of the promotions and special events will be related to the movie. February is also the time for the various toy fairs, which is significant for LEGO fans, as this is when many of the new sets and themes for the year get revealed. And then there is also Valentine’s Day. So let’s take a look at everything in detail. 🙂

FREE DC SUPER HERO GIRLS POLYBAG: The new LEGO DC Super Hero Girls is proving to be very popular, and February is going to be a good time to pick up any of the new sets, if you haven’t done so already. Between February 1-15th you will get a free LEGO DC Super Hero Girls Krypto Saves the Day with any LEGO DC Super Hero Girls purchase. You can find all the sets under the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE POLYBAG: To celebrate the release of The LEGO Batman Movie, LEGO is offering a free exclusive LEGO Batman Movie Disco and Clown Batman polybag with purchases of $75 or more from February 10-28th. This is going to be an excellent way to add two exclusive Batman suits to the collection! Please note that this promotion is not limited to LEGO Batman Movie sets, but is valid on all purchases. However if you want to check them out, the sets related to the movie can all be found under The LEGO Batman Movie section of the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE POSTER COLLECTION: During the entire month, LEGO will be offering a unique poster each week related to The LEGO Batman Movie; Harley Quinn – February 1-5, Batman – February 6-12, Batgirl – February 13-19, and Robin – February 20-26. If you are planning to place a larger order, it might be worth breaking it up to chunks, so you can collect the posters through several smaller purchases (just keep in mind to meet the minimum for free shipping on each order).

LEGO BATMAN MOVIE MERCHANDISE: Just like with The LEGO Movie, we will see a whole range of LEGO Batman Movie merchandise; watches, bedding, lunch boxes, posters, T-shirts, costumes, McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, and more. I’m not going to get into these in detail, but you should be able to find them at various retailers.

LEGO BRICKHEADZ COLLECTION AVAILABLE: LEGO VIP members will get early access to the new LEGO BrickHeadz sets starting on February 15th (general release will be in March). This is a new theme, featuring blocky brick-built LEGO Super Hero characters, similar to the Mega Bloks/Mega Construx Kubros line. We talked about them previously here: LEGO BrickHeadz Collection Coming!

LEGO VALENTINE’S DAY SET: While this is not a new release, the #40236 LEGO Romantic Valentine Picnic set is still available, and it is an excellent little set (only $9.99!) with a whole collection of really sweet pieces. It is available under the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2017 LEGO SETS AT THE TOY FAIRS: Traditionally there are three toy fairs LEGO fans pay attention to every year. The London Toy Fair at the end of January, the Nuremberg (German) Toy Fair at the beginning of February, and the New York Toy Fair at the end of February. The London Toy Fair came and went this year with no LEGO related news, as they don’t allow taking pictures, and this year they didn’t even invite the press. The German Toy Fair is taking place right now (February 1-6), so lots of news should be coming out this week, and they also allow pictures. The New York Toy Fair is going to be towards the middle of the month (February 18-21), where the same new LEGO sets are shown as at the German Toy Fair, and sometimes a few extra sets also get revealed. It’s worth paying attention to these events, as you get an idea what to budget for throughout the year.

There are no new large set released this month, but this is a good thing, as it allows us to catch up on the January releases. The #10255 LEGO Creator Assembly Square is a beauty, and it is the largest set released so far this year. And of course there are all The LEGO Batman Movie, LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Nexo Knights, LEGO Friends, LEGO Super Hero Girls, LEGO Disney Moana, LEGO Architecture, and LEGO Juniors sets. There is so much to choose from, fitting every interest and budget. I’m particularly impressed by the number of really good small sets available in pretty much every theme. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a set with great play-features, and very useful pieces. We talked about some of these small sets here: Awesome 2017 LEGO Sets under $10!

What do you think? What are you looking forward to this month? And what are you planning to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Clown Batman looks like what would happen if the Joker got to design a Batsuit.

And I wish I was in the LEGO Club, just for those little brickhead guys. Hehe.

LOL! That’s funny! WE definitely have been getting an insane amount of Batman suits! 😀

So, Any Idea on what the VIP sets are going to be?

Brickheadz. It’s discussed in the article above. 😉

My brother and I have been saving any purchases for the Clown and Disco Batman polybag promo. I still need a few LEGO Batman CMFs to round out my archives and I’d love to get the Valentine seasonal set on sale after the 14th. We still need plenty of current sets, but have been waiting for them to either go on sale or for the right promo. We’ll both probably get just over $75 so we each get a polybag.
It’d be nice if there were something new and exciting in either the Pick-a-Brick Wall or the Minifig kiosk, but I’m not counting on it.

        LOL! 😀

It’s the extended version of a Japanese theme song from the 70’s, IIRC… Pretty funky!

That’s a good plan. The only thing I would be concerned about is the Valentine’s Day set selling out. It’s a very nice little set. 🙂

My brother and I already split one and I have a spare in my archives. It’s such a great set, though, I wouldn’t mind one or two more.

        • admin February 1, 2017, 4:23 PM

Oh, that’s good. I’m glad you already have some. It would be more worrisome to wait if you woudldn’t have any.

          • OhioBricker February 1, 2017, 7:25 PM

I wouldn’t take a risk on a set that good. Not on a $10 set anyway.

  • Legostuff71 February 1, 2017, 2:52 PM

Right, yet another thing I am going to pass. ( a little disappointing ).

    • admin February 1, 2017, 3:21 PM

The reaction to Brickheads have been quite polarized. Some people really dislike them, for others they are an instant buy. They do have some interesting pieces and building techniques, and they are not expensive, so it may be worth trying out a couple. 🙂

It’s something to think about , but, it goes back to my selective plan and trying to stay with the themes I have. However , the Batman sets are starting talk to me( please make the voices stop!).LOL.

  • Legostuff71 February 1, 2017, 5:47 PM

For once I knew what Gollum felt like . I think I will get a couple of Batman sets ( of course that’s how it starts . Right.)

    • admin February 1, 2017, 10:37 PM

      Well, what can I say… yeah, that’s how it starts… 🙄

  • Legostuff71 February 2, 2017, 2:46 AM

I did something funny. I made a Bat vader and he wants to turn us to the “dark knight side”.

    • admin February 2, 2017, 2:48 PM

Oh… should we be concerned? 🙄

  • Icepacklady February 2, 2017, 8:10 AM

Add me to the people not thrilled with the BlockHeadz series but I’m good with that. My daughter and I are both trying to get caught up with all the Friends sets that just came out and I’m trying to pick up some of the new Creator and City sets as well. On the fence about the DC Super Hero Girls sets. I did pick up Wonder Woman’s dorm but it remains to be seen whether either of us gets the big school set or not.

    • admin February 2, 2017, 2:50 PM

It may be worth waiting with the DC Super Hero Girls School set. It has good play-features, but it doesn’t look as great as for example the LEGO Friends high-school. I’m fairly certain that the line will continue, so better sets may come in the future. The small to medium sets are great though. 🙂
