LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall survey results

You might remember that at the end of last year LEGO asked LEGO User Groups to survey their communities in regards to what their members would like to see at the Pick-A-Brick Wall at official LEGO stores (see: What Would You Like on the LEGO PAB Wall?). The data was collected from all the participating LEGO fan communities by mid-January, and by the end of the month the results were ready to be shared. 🙂

LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall Selection

Please note that what will be included in the Fan Favorite section of the PAB Wall throughout 2017 has been selected already, based on sales performance data and previous feedback by LEGO fans. The results of this most recent survey will be taken into consideration for the 2018 selection of the PAB Wall. Also, remember that the Fan Favorite section is only relevant to North American stores at this point. There are plans to roll out the program across Europe and Asia as well, but there is no precise timeframe for this currently.

The original survey included six questions (see previous post linked above) related to the PAB Wall. Four of them solicited feedback and suggestions about LEGO brand stores and the PAB Wall in general, and two questions specifically asked which colors and elements LEGO fans would like to see at the PAB Wall in the future. Based on the survey responses from participating LEGO fan communities (including ours), here are the top results (see larger version of official LEGO color chart here and the BrickLink color chart here):

TOP TEN COLORS REQUESTED FOR PAB WALL:

  1. #154 – New Dark Red (dark-red on BrickLink)
  2. #141 – Earth Green (dark-green on BrickLink)
  3. #151 – Sand Green
  4. #140 – Earth Blue (dark-blue on BrickLink)
  5. #194 – Medium Stone Gray (light-bluish-gray on BrickLink)
  6. #138 – Sand Yellow (dark-tan on BrickLink)
  7. #199 – Dark Stone Gray (dark-bluish-gray on BrickLink)
  8. #38 – Dark Orange
  9. #308 – Dark Brown
  10. #135 – Sand Blue

TOP TEN ELEMENTS REQUESTED FOR PAB WALL:

  1. #98283 – Profile Brick 1×2 Single Gro. (masonry bricks)
  2. #3004 – Brick 1×2 (standard 1×2 bricks)
  3. #2423 – Limb Element, Small (small plant leaves)
  4. #3024 – Plate 1×1 (standard 1×1 plate)
  5. #3023 Plate 1×2 (standard 1×2 plate)
  6. #3069 – Flat Tile 1×2 (standard 1×2 tile)
  7. #54200  – Roof Tile 1x1x2/3, ABS (1×1 “cheese” slope)
  8. #2417 – Limb Element (large plant leaves)
  9. #3068 – Flat Tile 2×2 (standard 2×2 tile)
  10. #3005 – Brick 1×1 (standard 1×1 brick)

As I mentioned above, the feedback from the survey will be used for choosing the colors and elements in the 2018 selection of the PAB Wall. Hopefully, LEGO will be able to fulfill at least some of the requests, if not all. And I also hope that they will run similar surveys in the future to gauge what LEGO fans would like to see at the PAB Wall.

What do you think? How do you like the results of the survey? Does it match your own favorites? Are these the colors and elements you would like to see at the PAB Wall? Or would you prefer something else? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

    Hey Admin,

Yes, the colors are exactly what I requested in the survey. I like the elements selected, especially the plant leaves. I would have liked larger bricks to be included (1×4, 1×6, etc.), but I wouldn’t complain if we got these elements in the colors listed above.

It seems the colors chosen are mostly relatively subdued, and suitable for more realistic natural scenery and such. I guess most of the parts chosen could be used for better detailing.

      • admin February 3, 2017, 11:07 AM

Yes, those colors are excellent for landscaping, realistic buildings, and more life-like settings overall. They have been requested by LEGO fans for a very long time. This is why the Modulars almost always have them. LEGO knows that’s what AFOLs want. This is in contrast with what the current PAB Wall usually have; bright colors, Friends colors, bigger pieces, etc.

James, yeah, I like the color and element selection too. Please note that this is a list of the top 10 elements and colors chosen by the community, however the survey actually asked for the top 20 for colors and top 30 for elements. Obviously the top 10 will have the most chance to make it into the PAB Wall, but they will also carefully consider the other requested colors and pieces.

This is great news. The fact that LEGO even asked is huge. I totally agree with the colors, and the parts for the most part. These things are all extremely useful for building custom modulars and realistic town layouts.

I like the colors; I think they’re what most people wanted.
The parts, on the other hand,…
    a) profile brick is great
    b) 1 x 2 is great — if it comes in the favorite colors
    c) we need 1 x 4s and 1 x 1 or 1 x 3s to go along with the others to build anything.
    d) limb elements are nice, but how many can you buy/use?
    e) I’d rather see some 1 x 3 plates — 1x 2s are easy to find.
    f) Some grid pieces would be nice (the 1 x1 x 6 (or 8?) grid and/or the 1 x 4 x 5 cross grid — useful elements for bridges, scaffolding, raised cranes, etc.
    g) tiles in the proposed colors would be nice, but again 1 x 1 or 1 x 3 tiles would add flexibility
    h) big plates 6 x 20

Ave, please note that in the survey results we were only told which were the top 10. But the survey actually allowed us to enter 30 choices, and LEGO will consider those as well. So we may still be getting some of the ones you mentioned. 🙂

As you say in your d) “how many could you buy/use” well for my collab MOC (it’s a forest you can see it on my channel) I had to order over 600 large leaves…

      • admin February 3, 2017, 9:27 PM

Yeah, for any kind of natural setting with trees, you will need quite a few of them. I really hope they will make it to the PAB Wall, and in different colors too! I love the orange and maroon ones for autumn leaves!

  • Michelle worman February 3, 2017, 12:22 PM

I like that they asked us as well. Shows they want to keep us happy!

    • admin February 3, 2017, 12:33 PM

LEGO is actually very responsive when it comes to feedback. Of course they are very careful with what children and parents have to say, and they are also getting much better at working with the AFOL community. If you guys ever have any requests, complaints, questions, feel free to ask, as I can get in touch with the right persons via the Ambassador Network.

  • PrashBricks February 3, 2017, 12:35 PM

    Sounds good…

  • brickmaster February 3, 2017, 1:04 PM

I’m happy about the results. Good choices. Are there any other surveys like this we can respond to?

    • admin February 3, 2017, 1:25 PM

You can always give feedback to LEGO via their regular public surveys and by calling customer service. If you are part of a LUG (physical or online) you can always give feedback to LEGO via your Ambassador as well. If there is a survey via the Ambassador Forum that asks us to poll our members/readers, I always post them. In fact, there is another survey I will be posting about soon, asking LEGO fans to give feedback on the Collectible Minifigures. 🙂

All of the colors are great! Most of the parts are good I just don’t know what colors they will come in…the least useful are the 1×2 tiles, unless they are in ANY of the fan fav. colors!

    • admin February 3, 2017, 9:29 PM

Would love to have a good quantity of sand-green or sand-blue 1×2 tiles! 😀

      • TheBrickLot February 5, 2017, 11:37 AM

Yes, those would be amazing. My PAB wall has Mixel ball joints currently and a lot of 1×1 sand green bricks.

        • admin February 5, 2017, 6:07 PM

This reminds me; Mixel ball-joints should really come in some other colors than just gray! LEGO fans have been asking for so long! Their absence has been painfully obvious in some sets like Adventure Time.

          • TheBrickLot February 5, 2017, 11:17 PM

Yes indeed! I would *almost* kill for brown ones!!!

            • admin February 7, 2017, 4:06 PM

Brown ones? What would you use them for? Just curious. 😉

  • jjava February 27, 2017, 2:35 PM

I recently hit the jackpot on 2×2 tiles at my local LEGO store. They have 2×2 tiles in red, white and light bluish grey.

    • admin February 27, 2017, 3:13 PM

That’s certainly a great find! There is never enough of those tiles! 😀

  • Avery August 8, 2018, 1:55 PM

    What ever happened to this?

It seems the current selection is very mundane.

    Help!!
    Thanks

    • admin August 8, 2018, 2:09 PM

Hm… I haven’t been at a LEGO store recently, but I have heard the selection has been pretty good, including very useful pieces like LBG tiles. Let me check with my contacts at LEGO to see if there is an update.
