LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder coming!

Yesterday afternoon LEGO revealed the #75144 LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder, which is the latest in the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series collection. Below are all the details, pictures, and the introductory video from the set designers. 🙂

Here is the official description: Build the ultimate LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder! Collect a true Star Wars classic: the T-47 Snowspeeder. This LEGO interpretation of the iconic airspeeder that fans will remember from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back has all the details you’d expect, including opening airbrakes, rotating rear gun, and an opening cockpit with space for the included Rebel Snowspeeder Pilot and Rebel Snowspeeder Gunner minifigures. This model also comes with a display stand and fact plaque, so it can take pride of place in any LEGO Star Wars collection.

  • Includes 2 minifigures: a Rebel Snowspeeder Pilot and a Rebel Snowspeeder Gunner.
  • Features intricate, authentic detailing, opening airbrakes, rotating rear gun and an opening cockpit with space for the 2 included minifigures.
  • Attach the Snowspeeder to the stand with fact plaque to display it.
  • Includes 2 blaster pistols.
  • Accessory elements include electrobinoculars, a Snowspeeder Pilot helmet and a Snowspeeder Gunner helmet.
  • Snowspeeder on display stand measures over 8” (21cm) high, 15” (39cm) long and 11” (29cm) wide, and over 4” (11cm) high without stand.
  • 1,703 pieces.
  • Recommended for ages 14+.

The #75144 LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder will be available for sale directly through LEGO on May 4th. LEGO VIP members will get early access to the set starting on April 29th. Prices are as follows: US $199.99 – CA $229.99 – DE 199.99€ – UK £169.99 – DK 1799.00 DKK (Euro pricing varies by country). It will be listed under the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series includes sets that are primarily meant to be movie-accurate display-models for adult LEGO fans and collectors. Some of the most notable sets from the series are the #10179 LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon with 5,197 pieces from 2007, the very popular #10188 LEGO Star Wars Death Star from 2008 (a slightly updated version is the #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star from 2016), the #10212 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle from 2010, the #10221 LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer with 3,152 pieces from 2011, the large #10225 LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 sculpture from 2012, the #10240 LEGO Star Wars Red Five X-wing Starfighter from 2013, the #75059 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler with 3,296 pieces from 2014, the #75060 LEGO Star Wars Slave I from 2015, and the #75095 LEGO Star Wars TIE Fighter from 2015.

While most of the sets in the series are large display models of a single vehicle, LEGO also experimented with adding location-based sets with more play-features. The #10236 LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village from 2013 was generally well received, however the #75098 LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth released last year, got a lot of criticism for not being cohesive enough for a true UCS set. With the #75144 LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder, LEGO is going back to the more traditional large and detailed vehicle models the Ultimate Collector Series is known for. It is also interesting to note that this is the second snowspeeder released in the LEGO Star Wars UCS line. The first one was the #10129 LEGO Star Wars Rebel Snowspeeder from 2003, with 1,455 pieces for a price of $130 (see below).

What do you think? How do you like the new LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder? Do you think it is a worthy addition to the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series? How do you think it compares to the previous version? Are you planning to add it to your collection? Feel free to share your thought and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

It has some really nice angles, especially at the front. The greebling is also nice. That stand looks very wobbly though. And all those stickers!?

    • admin March 23, 2017, 2:11 PM

Yeah, stickers on UCS sets are usually not appreciated…

      • Håkan March 23, 2017, 6:53 PM

Apparently stickers applied on curved transparent windscreens too, which caused even more hoohah…

        • admin March 23, 2017, 8:16 PM

Yeah, those are always a pain…

  • Tony March 23, 2017, 1:53 PM

Looks good, but I prefer some of the smaller versions. Somehow the details are better on those. I’m not saying this is not accurate, it’s just that the smaller versions have a more interesting design. Does that make sense?

    • admin March 23, 2017, 2:12 PM

I actually know what you mean. The smaller snowspeeders have a denser shape, so all the greebling really stands out. And they are more swooshable. Of course you can always add more greebling to the big one too. 😉

Some nice improvements at the front, compared to the original model. And the airbreaks are especially nice. I don’t like having all those stickers, but it looks like many of them could be just left off.

    • admin March 23, 2017, 2:21 PM

Yeah, it looks like some of the stickers are non-essential, and/or they could be replaced with orange pieces, or some greebling. Modifying official LEGO sets is half of the fun! 😀

This looks pretty cool. The price seems a little bit high for the piece count, though. I also wish they would change the minifigures’ face print, because the current one looks a little ridiculous. That aside, the torso and and leg prints look good. The new cockpit part looks useful, hopefully it will become available in some cheaper sets. Also, is that the medium crown gear in light grey instead of tan on the lasers? Haven’t seen that in a while.

    • admin March 23, 2017, 2:33 PM

Oh, good notice about those gears! Yeah, they are definitely LBG. You can see some close-up images in the Brickset database: http://brickset.com/sets/75144-1/Snowspeeder

Yeah, it’s funny that both minifigs have the same face. I guess we just going to have to swap them out. The price is a bit on the high side for sure, but it seems like prices on Star Wars sets are on the rise in general.

Ewok Village is still better because of the detail it takes to make the trees are so impressive. Fighter ships are just like cars with out wheels. Their is only so much detail you can put in to a fighter ship and most of that winds up being stickers.

    • admin March 23, 2017, 3:52 PM

Well said. The Ewok Village is a fantastic set, and it also looks great on display. I do like LEGO’s spaceships, but prefer the ones that are LEGO’s own IP’s (i.e. Benny’s Spaceship), because they can really maximize what can be done with LEGO (greebling, shapes, weapons, etc.). With movie-accurate models they just can’t go outside of what the IP provides.

  • Legostuff71 March 23, 2017, 4:48 PM

Benny’s spaceship ( SPACESHIP, SPACESHIP!!!!!) is so cool . I wish LEGO would go old school go back and do more spaceships like Benny s. I know a lot of fans ( me included) wish LEGO would go back and do their spaceship themes again . If they do , ( I mention this earlier) a space pirate theme . This way they can bring pirates back with space mixed in . I mean, what do you think NEXO knights is there just knights in space armor.

  • Legostuff71 March 23, 2017, 10:05 PM

Did someone go to the dark side and needs to pulled back into the light side or what? Creativity is one thing but if it give you nightmares, WOW!

    • admin March 23, 2017, 10:24 PM

Håkan is trying to lure all of us to the Dark Side… 🙄

      • Håkan March 24, 2017, 7:20 AM

It ‘is’ pretty light, but since it’s Japanese, they had to mix up the cute love song with decapitations and melting faces…

        • Håkan March 24, 2017, 7:39 AM

It is a love song played over the final battle…

“There’ll be blue lights over, the space ships that hover…” sort of…

        • admin March 24, 2017, 12:14 PM

          I don’t even know what to say… 😯 😐

  • BLProductions March 23, 2017, 10:06 PM

The front box art looks weird, like the Snowspeeder is crashing…. I guess it just doesn’t seem like a LEGO model that big can move quickly. 😉
Anyways, this Snowspeeder looks awesome, and it’s definitely a vast improvement over the old 10129. The angled plates look much better than the old slopes; the functions, especially that rotating rear gun, are great; and all the useful parts are cool. I really like that they added detail to the underside, rather than leaving it unfinished; they even added ice skates around the rear landing gear! I’m glad to see the plaque of info and the stand as well, as we haven’t got one since 75095. While I like the new windscreen piece, I am slightly concerned about how many new exclusive ones LEGO has been making recently, but hopefully it’s not a bad sign.
Now, to me, the minifigs are unnecessary. Obviously the Snowspeeder isn’t in scale, but since they had to include them, why not make them two actual Rebels, with appropriate exclusive prints? The guy in the video even said they’re not different, except for the arm and helmet printing. 😕
Finally, stickers have been a necessary part of UCS sets since the beginning, so they’re expected, although there are more than normal here. I do admit some of them will be annoying to apply, though.

    • admin March 23, 2017, 10:28 PM

Well, snowspeeders did crash in quite large numbers, so it’s not like the picture is inaccurate. 😉

Yes, it is true that LEGO has been releasing a number of new windscreens, but I think they are all useful and will have multiple uses. The minifigs could have definitely been better, as you said. I like the arm printing though.

I am sure the minfigures will be welcomed in my house, or as my son likes to call them the orange guys. Battle of the Hoth is my favorite Star Wars scene and this set is a must have. I thought the set would display better with some proportional figures, and so it happens that the snowspeeder is perfectly scaled to the Legoland Miniland scale. I built 2 figures (Luke and Dak Ralter) if anyone is interested, you can download the Lego Digital Designer file and obtain parts list from the Rebrickable page linked here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-7457/Miro/miniland-rebel-pilots/

        • admin March 28, 2017, 1:18 PM

Thanks, Miro! Your figures are always awesome. 🙂

  • PrashBricks March 24, 2017, 3:55 AM

I am quitte sure they made a UCS snowspeeder before…

    • Håkan March 24, 2017, 7:23 AM

Yes, I think it was 2005. I read about it.

    • admin March 24, 2017, 12:13 PM

Yes, it’s right there in the article. Last picture. 😉

  • Legostuff71 March 24, 2017, 8:46 AM

I am waiting for a Moisture farm and/or a cloud city. I know they did a cloud city a few years ago. Where’s the repeat in that LEGO?

    • admin March 24, 2017, 12:17 PM

Yeah, the Cloud City set is fantastic. I had a chance to build it a few years ago, and it was a great set. I would also like the Moisture Farm. It could have some nice buildings and interesting equipment.
