LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave coming!

After several teaser images via social media, yesterday LEGO finally revealed the largest LEGO Minecraft set to date, the #21137 LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave. While it is not the biggest amongst all LEGO sets ever released as far as piece-count, it is enormous due to the large number of standard LEGO bricks (instead of small embellishments). Below is the full press-release with all the details. 🙂

Experience the Mountain Cave! Build and experience the Mountain Cave, featuring an amazing minecart track with an integrated redstone‑powered minecart elevator, and an array of other features and functions, including TNT blasting, rotating spider‑spawner, charged Creeper explosion and a lava burst. Position the light brick to illuminate the rotating spider-spawner, wall of redstone, jack o’lantern, first-night shelter, furnace, lava or the torch above the cave entrance. Enjoy hands‑on Minecraft adventures featuring your favorite characters and objects with this easy-to-reconfigure, modular LEGO Minecraft set designed for young fans of the highly successful sandbox video game. Includes Steve and Alex minifigures, plus 13 mobs including a charged Creeper.

  • Includes 2 minifigures: Steve and Alex, plus a cave spider, wolf, baby wolf, slime, 2 small slimes, 2 bats, zombie, enderman, skeleton, sheep and a charged Creeper.
  • Features a minecart track with an integrated redstone-powered minecart elevator; 2 minecarts; first-night shelter with bed, crafting table and torch; a mountaintop shelter with bed, torch and furnace; plus a light brick, trees, waterfall, lava and extra torches.
  • Open up the model to access the detailed interior and remodel with easy-to-connect modular sections – choose from 3 different model configurations.
  • Remove the diamond ore elements and activate the lava burst function.
  • Activate the revolving cave-spider spawner.
  • Trigger the charged Creeper explosion function.
  • Jump aboard the minecart and race around the track, and travel to the mountaintop aboard the redstone powered minecart elevator.
  • Blast through the mountain with the TNT to extend the rail track.
  • Position the light brick to illuminate the rotating spider-spawner, wall of redstone, jack o’lantern, first-night-shelter, furnace, lava or the torch above the cave entrance.
  • Put on your golden armor, grab your diamond sword and shield, and prepare for battle!
  • Weapons include a sword and a bow. Accessory elements include a Minecraft clock, spider eyes, signs, map, golden armor, shield, TNT and 8 ore style elements, including diamond, lapis lazuli, emerald, redstone, golden, iron and 2 coal ores.
  • Measures over 12” (31cm) high, 20” (53cm) wide and 11” (29cm) deep.
  • Recommended for ages 12+.
  • 2,863 pieces.

As you can see, the set is huge! And it has a modular design, which has been such an excellent feature of all the LEGO Minecraft sets, with a number of easy configurations. Also, notice that the same rail system is used as in the #21130 LEGO Minecraft The Nether Railway that was released earlier this year. Basically, LEGO Minecraft developed its own rail system!

Below is a video LEGO published on their Facebook page about how the set came about. It has some interesting details about the design process.

I find it amazing how many large sets LEGO Minecraft can support! You don’t hear much talk about LEGO Minecraft at the online LEGO fan communities, but the theme is clearly very popular. Minifig-scale LEGO Minecraft sets have only been around since 2014, and we already got the #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress (984 pieces), the #21128 LEGO Minecraft The Village (1600 pieces). And there is also the upcoming #21136 LEGO Minecraft The Ocean Monument (1122 pieces), and of course the #21137 LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave. Plus a large number of small to medium sets as well.

The #21137 LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave is going to be available on July 1st, with early access to LEGO VIP members on June 15th. Prices are as follows: US $249.99 – CA $299.99 – DE 249.99€ – UK £259.99 – DK 2099.00 DKK (Euro pricing varies by country). It will be listed under the LEGO Minecraft section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave? Do you play the game? And do you have any of the other LEGO Minecraft sets? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

    SO BIG!!! 😀

  • legolol May 19, 2017, 11:11 AM

I love massive builds like these. Its somewhat realistic to minecraft, and is fun to play with. Lego should make more of these.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 11:41 AM

Yes, massive sets are awesome. There is also a video I found and might include in the post about how the set was developed between LEGO and Minecraft designers.

      • admin May 19, 2017, 11:45 AM

Okay, I added the video as well. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 May 19, 2017, 11:36 AM

I found the minecraft sets lacking detail inside and the blockiness seems off putting for LEGO . I guess I am use to the roundness of the mini figs . To each there own.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 11:49 AM

Yes, Minecraft is very blocky, but that’s what Minecraft fans like about it, and it does match well with LEGO’s basic shapes. Even if you don’t care for Minecraft, the sets are an excellent source of basic bricks in earthy colors. Also, the building-techniques are pretty interesting. I have a few of the smaller sets.

I love the charged Creeper! Would be great for making my skin!
Speaking of skin, LEGO should offer the service to make a MC figure with your skin! To make it cheaper they can just slap the design right on it (thus you wouldn’t need to pay for graphic design) and they could sell them for $30.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 1:10 PM

Yeah, I really like the charged Creeper too! You could suggest your idea about skins on the LEGO Minecraft Facebook Page. They are pretty responsive to ideas.

To me Lego Minecraft set = parts pack. This looks to be a good one; though a bit heavy on the gray. (Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me there are medium size sand green plates in significant numbers!)

    • admin May 19, 2017, 1:12 PM

I look at them like that too! And yep, those are indeed sand-green plates! 😀

  • Legostuff71 May 19, 2017, 1:36 PM

I just might get this set . I think it would work with my dwarf mine set. There are so many set themes out there and more to come. What to do?

    • admin May 19, 2017, 1:42 PM

Need to win the lottery. That’s our only hope. 🙄

  • Professor Bunny May 19, 2017, 1:43 PM

The model is certainly impressive, but I think I’m more interested in some of the characters and accessories, namely the bats, big slime, angry wolves, shield and clock. The charged creeper is pretty cool, too. Does anyone know whether it has a new face print, or just the old one on a trans light blue head? I like the abandoned mineshaft part at the bottom, it would go great with 21118 The Mine.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 1:52 PM

The facial print for the Creeper appears to be pretty much the same. On the regular version the little squares for the eyes and mouth are dark-green and black, with a black outline. On the charged Creeper everything seems to be the same, except for the extra little green squares around the face. The set is already listed at the Online LEGO Shop, so you can see high resolution images.

I have interesting idea. What if LEGO did what Willie Wonka did and have golden tickets hidden in a LEGO set , to win a visit to the LEGO factory . Wouldn’t that be cool. ( I know off topic. But it was an idea I had late last night.) It would be certain sets( themes) maybe in one of the next mini figures series.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 4:47 PM

LEGO tried something similar in the past with Mr. Gold in the Collectible Minifig Series, and the gold C-3PO in random Star Wars boxes. It simply resulted in people being resentful for not getting one, and torn apart boxes at retailers. The only people who benefited from these schemes are resellers. The idea is nice, but unfortunately people’s greed spoils it. Life is just not like in the movies. 😐

  • Legostuff71 May 19, 2017, 5:08 PM

Yeah , I understand . I find that sad that people can get so greedy sometimes. It’s reminds when the first mini fig series came out and it was mostly adults ( and I use the term loosely ) hoarding over the packets and the kids couldn’t get in edgewise. I was disgusted by that . They say money is the root of all evil, but I it’s the weak minds of people . On a happy note the next LEGO catalog is coming out very soon . Yay, more temptations ( as if we don’t have enough already ).

    • admin May 19, 2017, 5:11 PM

Oh! I can’t wait for the new catalog! It’s somehow always feels different to be able to flip through the pages rather than just seeing stuff online. I’m doing a 7-DAY NO COMPLAINNING CHALLENGE, so I’m not going to say what I think about greedy minifig hoarders. 🙄

    • gid617 May 19, 2017, 5:51 PM

Actually the original is “the love of money is the root of all [kinds of] evil”… which is obviously much truer than the idea that money is the root of evil! And it is sad to see how frequently that’s verified!

A 7-day no complaining challenge? Ooh. That sounds both tough and awesome. 😀 Now I want to try it!
And on topic: sand green! Looks like a great parts pack. But… there’s no chance I’d be able to afford this and the Saturn V and Dragon’s Forge, so it’s out! If I were into Minecraft though, that trans-creeper looks pretty cool!

      • admin May 19, 2017, 8:31 PM

Yeah, so many awesome sets coming out this summer! I definitely want the Saturn V, and also the Fishing Store later this year, and some of the upcoming Ninjago Movie sets.

The 7-Day No Complaining Challenge is really fun and very eye-opening. My whole family and many of my friends are doing it. You can read/hear more about it here: http://www.harveker.com/2017/05/16/7-day-no-complaining-challenge/ You don’t have to sign up for anything, just scroll down the page, and all the info is there. There is a new short video and new sub-challenge each day, practicing different aspects of no complaining. The challenge is on Day 3 right now, but you can join in any time, and just start from the beginning and watch one video/take one challenge each day. 🙂

        • gid617 May 20, 2017, 9:04 AM

Thanks for the link! Looks intriguing. 😀

  • Legostuff71 May 19, 2017, 6:50 PM

Thank you , gid617 for the correction. I am in on the 7 days of no complaining thing . The city jungle theme looks cool ( I just pulled out my dinosaur theme and ready to combine the themes) the creators sets this summer looks really great , you can never have enough houses.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 8:33 PM

The summer sets are definitely very interesting and I’m really looking forward to them also. I wrote a comment in response to gid617 with a link to the No Complaining Challenge if you want to join in. You can do it through the Facebook page, or through the link if you don’t use FB. I prefer the webpage as it is simpler to follow. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 May 19, 2017, 9:07 PM

I am not very knowledgeable on the Internet use and I am learning as I go. The fact that I can go on line and do what I can do ( like texting) is a big step for me. I would love to join.

    • admin May 19, 2017, 9:25 PM

I would suggest to use the website link then, as it is very simple. No need to navigate, or anything. Everything is on this one page. You can watch the videos there too, if you like, or just read the text. If you run into any issues, feel free to ask: https://www.harveker.com/

  • PrashBricks May 20, 2017, 7:17 AM

I suggest lego should definetely work together with redigit (the creators of terraria) too, I think it would give us a really cool eye of cthulu for example.

    • admin May 20, 2017, 10:53 AM

Hm… that would be interesting. It’s too close to Minecraft though, isn’t it? I mean I just don’t think LEGO could support both at the same time. It might make a good Ideas project though. 🙂

      • PrashBricks May 21, 2017, 6:16 AM

        Yeah, your right…

I should try getting some bricklink stuff and building a MOC.
