LEGO Palace Cinema custom movie posters

Amongst all LEGO Creator Modular Buildings, the #10232 LEGO Creator Palace Cinema is the only one that includes stickers (in the other sets in the series the decorated pieces are all printed). LEGO most likely made the decision to use stickers because the decorations depict large movie posters and signs and would be expensive to print.

The sticker-sheet that comes with the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema includes ten stickers. Three full-color movie posters (two of each) that go on the front of the building, three black and white signs that go over the entrance, and a large black-and-white movie screen.

According to the stickers, the movie playing in the theatre is titled “Three Clicks & A Snap”, and tickets are 30 cents (I wish that would be true in real life!). The color stickers representing movie posters feature three fictional movies: “Forever Sorting”, “Mystery on the Monorail”, and “The Brick Separator” – all humorous references to LEGO fan culture.

The movie poster stickers attach to both sides of 4×6 stud clear LEGO windowpanes, so they can be viewed both from inside the lobby and from outside. They are colorful with very nice designs, and thus quite effective.

Because the windowpanes snap into regular 4×6 stud window-frames, they can be taken out and rearranged any way you like without having to take apart the building. And the fact that the windowpanes can be snapped in and out easily, also means that you could use other stickers to represent movie posters, as long as you have a few extra 4×6 windowpanes to stick them to.

If you have a good quality printer and some sticker-paper, you can make your own posters, and keep your Palace Cinema up to date with current movies. You can pretty much shrink down any real-life movie poster and print them out on either clear or white sticker-paper. However, the ones that fit with the theatre the best are the posters that are already LEGO-ized. Either LEGO themselves or LEGO fans make LEGO versions of movie posters, so you can just search at Google images for LEGO Star Wars movie poster, LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Movie poster, LEGO Batman Movie poster, or whatever else you like.

If you don’t have a good quality printer, or just don’t want to fiddle with designing stickers, you can also purchase custom stickers specifically made for the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema from various eBay sellers. They even include updated movie-screens and signs for the front of the cinema, so you can swap out those as well. Here are some of the current results: LEGO PALACE CINEMA STICKERS ON EBAY

Having some extra windowpanes with movie poster stickers is a fun way to keep your LEGO Creator Palace Cinema fresh and up to date. People are always amazed when they see the Palace Cinema featuring LEGO-ized stickers of current movies! They can’t imagine how that’s possible!

What do you think? Do you have the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema? Are you keeping the original stickers, or do you swap them out occasionally? Do you make you make your own stickers, or purchase them from other LEGO fans? Feel free to share in the comment section below! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s a great idea! I also like that they have included matching stickers for the movie screen and the signs. The only thing is that you have to get extra pieces to put the stickers on, but that’s not a big issue. I’ll likely get some of these.

This is a custom that I definitely approve! Now, if lego would make their own stickers as new movies come out.

LEGO did actually release a sticker for the Palace Cinema when The LEGO Movie came out, which I thought was a very nice idea.

These would be cool! Too bad I don’t have the Palace Cinema, though.

    • admin May 24, 2017, 4:04 PM

You can still get it, if you want. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve noticed that there are some 4×6 window frames with holes to insert a pane on both sides, and some that only have those on one side, so I’m wondering if it would be possible to put the poster stickers back to back, either on paper or just on each other, and sandwich them between two clear panes in order to better protect the stickers.

    • admin May 24, 2017, 4:03 PM

That’s a very interesting idea. In fact, if you do that. you won’t even need stickers. You could just slip a piece of printed paper in between the window-panes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Brad May 24, 2017, 4:42 PM

True, but I was thinking more along the lines of using the included stickers, or some from a third party, like in your link.

        • admin May 24, 2017, 4:44 PM

Oh, yeah, sure! It would definitely work for the stickers too! I was just adding that plain paper option should work also if you can just slip the posters in between two panes of window. I think it’s a great idea! ๐Ÿ˜€

Paul Mansfield makes some QUALITY stickers for the Palace Cinema. They are some of the best I’ve ever seen.

Palace cinema is the newest/cheepest modular building on bricklink, but I think if I have enough money I would rather pick up detective’s office or assembly square… What do you think?

    • admin May 25, 2017, 1:23 PM

Palace Cinema looks great on the outside, but is pretty empty on the inside compared to the newest sets. If you are only planning to get one or two Modulars, I would go with the most recent ones, as all of them are incredibly well detailed and very fun to build.

I would add though, that if you have any inclination towards the Palace Cinema, I would get it first, as it will be the next set to retire. The other ones will be around for a while.

Both the Detective’s Office and the Assembly Square are amazing sets. They also go well together. I don’t think you would be disappointed with either of them.

For setting up a good modular street, you want at least two corners. Palace Cinema being a corner is one of the most important parts of the set, and Brick Bank could easily be your second corner.

As far as recent modulars go, Parisian Restaurant is still the nicest one I think, although Assembly Square is huge and amazing too and Detective’s Office has the best play features of any of them so far.

      • admin May 25, 2017, 3:37 PM

That’s a good point about corners. How many corners you will need will also depend on your display. Like for example, my display is pushed against the wall at one end, so I only have one corner to worry about. I also like the Parisian the most, and it actually works well as a corner building because of the lower balcony section. And I also agree that the Detective’s Office is the most fun, and Assembly Square is awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

The names on the actual set’s stickers are quite amusing, and I like that they’re either LEGO-related puns. Those custom stickers are very well done, though. Unfortunately I don’t have any spare 4X6 window panes, and a week ago I also would have said I didn’t even have the Palace Cinema, but that has since changed, since I got the Palace Cinema on Monday as a birthday gift. I haven’t built it yet (I don’t really have space for itโ€ฆ) but I have built a micro-scale Minecraft Nether on the baseplate. I also got the 40237 Easter set and a Darth Maul key chain (for which I will be finding one of your tutorials on removing the metal piece, admin). ๐Ÿ™‚
Speaking of Modulars, did you see the winners of the Rebrick Modular contest? First place was a mini Palace Cinema. An accurate one, yes, but one greatly relying on custom stickers. Apparently the judges liked them, as their official comment said: “there’s wonderful use of decoration to enhance emotion, clever segmentation of letters spelling โ€˜Palaceโ€™ ….” But this was a creative building contest, and an un-original model is not very creative, stickers or no. There were superior entries in the contest (though not mine, which was poor). Maybe the judges were overwhelmed with the community’s amazing skill, and just picked the first thing they saw. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • admin May 25, 2017, 4:40 PM

No, I haven’t seen the winners announced. Let me take a look…

      • admin May 25, 2017, 4:43 PM

Wow… I’m very surprised. I was sure they will pick one that is not just a mini version of a current Modular. And as you said, it relies heavily on stickers. There were so many amazing and creative entries. As I said; I’m very surprised. ๐Ÿ™

        • BLProductions May 25, 2017, 9:49 PM

Yeah, it’s weird. It may be they simply couldn’t choose out of all the amazing entries, as I said above. Perhaps the Palace Cinema’s designer was one of judges and so he was naturally biased towards a mini version of his set. Or perhaps there’s something about the model or the judging that we don’t know. ๐Ÿ˜•
The runner-ups were cooler, I think. Even the judges had more to say about them. Looking at the modern one: “Amazing parts-usage! We love the pterodactyl wingsโ€ฆ. Nice job on fresh and imaginative design, the wow effect made it stand out… and the transparency really helps bring life to the model. The addition of interior takes it to the next level!” Fresh and imaginative; that’s more like it! And for the record, those are Pteranodon wings. But I suppose the winner is up to LEGO; it is their contest. ๐Ÿ˜

          • admin May 25, 2017, 10:27 PM

I just went through some of the most recent comments on the contest page. Oh, boy… people are disappointed. Besides the lack of creativity in the winning entry (which suppose to have been 25% of the consideration for winning), people also point out that the entry doesn’t follow one of the rules (two-stud wide sidewalk), which everyone else who paid attention to the rules followed carefully.

In addition, the model is suspiciously similar to other mini Palace Cinemas that have been posted before at various fan sites. I’m fine with the other three winners though. I guess LEGO is learning their lessons for running contests like these. I have noticed that Rebrick contest description and rules are often unclear and full of mistakes. Hopefully they will be more careful in the future…

Oh, and congrats on getting the Palace Cinema, and Happy Birthday! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • BLProductions May 25, 2017, 10:11 PM

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚ As an aside, I noticed that my box has the new Creator Expert logo and design introduced with the Brick Bank last year, and the instructions show newer sets (manual 2 has #31039 Blue Power Jet from 2015). It’s interesting that they redesigned those. I suppose older sets are updated to look nicer on the shelves.
Also, have you watched the Ninjago Hands of Time episodes? The season ends tomorrow on CN; I’ve watched one on Youtube every day to keep pace. This season has the most complex storyline ever.

        • admin May 25, 2017, 10:28 PM

Yes, this happened to the Pet Shop also. They even changed some of the pieces in later versions of the set. I’m planning to catch up with Ninjago this weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

There was one sticker of the LEGO Movie which was sent with the set in USA and Canada at one period i believe. I got it and it’s a great sticker.

    • admin May 26, 2017, 5:45 PM

Yes, that was a very nice sticker. I wish they would have done one for The Batman Movie as well. ๐Ÿ™‚
