LEGO Star Wars family photos & questions

Yesterday LEGO posted a series of Star Wars related images on their social media pages, which created quite a bit of discussion in the LEGO fan community. Below I have included all four of the images along with what all the talk is about. 🙂

The first picture (see above) is to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, and features Luke, Leia, and our favorite droids, with Darth Vader and the Death Star looming in the background. LEGO notes that, “After 40 years we haven’t lost hope!” So far nothing unusual.

The next three pictures were posted all together an hour later, with the caption, “And you thought your family was complicated.” The first image shows Anakin, Padme, and Obi-Wan, with a grimacing Darth Maul in the background. The second image features, Luke, Leia, and an older Obi-Wan, with Darth Vader looming over them. And the last picture shows older Leia and Luke with Rey, and Kylo Ren in the background.

Most of the discussions are centered around the last image for a couple of reasons. First, the question arose if this is how older Luke is going to look like in the upcoming sets. Some people point out that he wears the same Jedi robes as Obi-Wan in the third picture, just in a different color, so this is likely just a stand-in before the finalized minifigure gets revealed.

The second question is about LEGO’s reference to family. Showing Rey together with Luke, Leia and Kylo Ren, reignited the old speculation that Rey may be a Skywalker. While other people say that Luke and Leia are simply Rey’s mentors, and that’s why they are pictured together. We really can’t know for sure at this point, so I will just leave you with the following quote from Wikipedia in regards to Rey:

Director and writer J.J. Abrams stated that he intentionally withheld Rey’s last name and background in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He said that he felt that the origin of Kylo Ren was the only thing that could be revealed in his movie and that he knows “quite a bit” about Rey’s origin but would give courtesy to Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson by not saying any more. Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow has stated that the answer of Rey’s origin will be “deeply and profoundly satisfying” and that Rey is “important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy. She deserves it.”

What do you think? How do you like LEGO’s teaser images? What do you think Luke will look like in the upcoming sets? And do you have any interesting insights about Rey’s identity? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

But Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t part of the Skywalker lineage, right? Or am I mistaken?

    • admin May 26, 2017, 10:34 AM

No, Obi-Wan is not a Skywalker, however he is very close to the family. Like an uncle or godfather. Personally, I’m not sure what to think. There is compelling evidence of Rey being a Skywalker, and just as much of her being someone else. She may also be connected to Obi-Wan. We shall see… 🙂

Interesting! So did Lego pull the picture or their comment on it? That would be an even bigger clue that it was a mistake. Or maybe they decided not to because it would be too obvious?

    • admin May 26, 2017, 1:09 PM

The picture and comment are still up, so no, they didn’t pull it. 🙄

I don’t think that’s how old Luke will look like. He needs a hood and his rope and belt are all wrong. I agree that it is probably just a stand in for now. Weren’t the Last Jedi sets already leaked?

    • admin May 26, 2017, 1:09 PM

Yes, it seems like the minifig is just a recolored stand-in.

I can’t wait until the movie comes out, so all these speculations can stop. It’s interesting, but also painful. I just wanna know now!

    • admin May 26, 2017, 2:13 PM

LOL! I know the feeling! But I’m sure there will be a lot to speculate about after the next movie too! 😈

Here’s a crazy thought , what if Kylo ren and Rey are brother and sister? They hid Rey like Luke and Lea. So, that would mean a brother and battle.( I just thought I ‘d throw a monkey wrench in the gears) .but , it makes you think doesn’t it ?

    • admin May 26, 2017, 5:48 PM

That’s a possibility as well, and I don’t think it’s a crazy thought. It would make quite a bit of sense, actually. 🙂

Well we have to have a look at the books that cover the story up to the force awakens. Aftermath: life debt takes place as Leia is pregnant of Kylo Ren and a twin is not mentioned. However, they could have had another child later. There must be other clues about Rey’s origins scattered around the books and comics but I haven’t read enough of them to know. Wendig’s books are dreadful btw.

      • admin May 27, 2017, 10:26 PM

My understanding is there is not much, if anything, about Rey in the books and other Expanded Universe materials. She is just awesome all by herself. 😀

Here are the top seven theories about Rey: http://www.dorkly.com/post/77088/the-7-best-fan-theories-on-reys-origins

To summarize, she is either Luke’s daughter, Han and Leia’s daughter, Anakin reincarnated, Obi-Wan reincarnated, Obi-Wan’s daughter, or a mysterious girl from the Jedi temple. All of these theories have substantial backing, so take your pick.

Ohhh! Thanks for that! Very interesting! I can’t wait for the new episode!

I am more confused than I was in the beginning ? It does make you think . Curious and impatient I am . Many questions I have. Wait for new STAR WARS movie we must , find answers we will. meditate on this I will.

    • admin May 27, 2017, 9:33 AM

LOL! I lave backward talking! 😀

  • PrashBricks May 27, 2017, 5:31 AM

Wait…, what if darth maul was anakins father?
It does probably sound crazy, but…

    – The pictures probably representate three different periods (Republic vs Seperatists, Rebels vs Empire, New Republic vs First Order).
    – The position of the minifigures is a bit the same, on the background a bad guy, in one photo, we know he is a father, than a few mentors, and at last the people who are going to ‘save the galaxy’…

    • PrashBricks May 27, 2017, 5:31 AM

What do you think of my crazy theory, I don’t even know if it makes sense…

      • PrashBricks May 27, 2017, 5:33 AM

I’ve not seen the entire Clone Wars, but does anyone know if anakin ever had a talk with darth maul before having a fight, like luke in the empire strikes back?

        • Håkan May 27, 2017, 9:06 AM

It seems that the canonical statement is that Anakin has no father, although that could possibly be a misunderstanding due to Shmi’s parents being naive enough to fall for her excuses…

          • Håkan May 27, 2017, 9:11 AM

“I don’t know ‘how’ that could have happened!? The Force must have been very strong lately…”

          • admin May 27, 2017, 9:34 AM

Yeah, the virgin birth story has been used throughout history to explain things away. 😉

        • admin May 27, 2017, 9:40 AM

Darth Maul only said like 30 words in the entire series. The most famous quote is: “At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge.” The rest is just a couple of filler sentences. So yeah, he didn’t speak much.

      • admin May 27, 2017, 9:40 AM

Darth Maul is so ugly, I don’t think anyone would want to have a child with him. 🙄

        • BLProductions May 27, 2017, 8:51 PM

I counter that. Darth Maul is not ugly. He’s awesome! And handsome. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCQCKsTQkMY 😀
However, I agree that it’s unlikely that Maul is Anakin’s father. I actually doubt Maul has any part of this genealogy, or any more significance to the storyline. I would have thought the relative dislike of Episode 1 in the fan community would dissuade Disney from referencing it…. But I could be wrong, who knows? The movies will answer it all (hopefully)….

          • admin May 27, 2017, 10:31 PM

Oh, I know… Darth Maul is awesome (especially in that video), he just doesn’t look like a good daddy figure. I don’t think anyone dislikes Darth Maul. It is Anakin and Jar Jar that are the problem. 🙄

    • admin May 27, 2017, 9:41 AM

It’s as good as any other theory, so yeah, sure why not. 😀

  • David May 27, 2017, 6:00 AM

Everyone is speculating about this online, but I think a lot of people are reading too much into it.

All three pictures need to be taken together, not individually and in each pictures you have people who are related and some who are not, so that tells us nothing about Rey lineage, she could be a Skywalker as well as not be one. We’ll know in December, and watching the movie is the only way I want to learn the truth.

    • admin May 27, 2017, 9:36 AM

The most compelling evidence that Luke is the father, is this quote from the original trailer: “The Force is strong in my family, my father had it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power too.”

  • Legostuff71 May 27, 2017, 9:49 AM

I agree. I think the brother sister theory makes a lot more sense becomes it follows the pattern of the STAR WARS saga. Father and son , good and evil , student becomes master and teacher. This story pattern has been going on for along time in books . From mythology. But, again like DAVID said let’s wait for the movie.
