LEGO SuperBots building & video contest

LEGO is running a new contest at their ReBrick website, this time for LEGO robotics fans. Remember that contests at ReBrick are for teen and adult LEGO fans, so you need to be at least 13-years-old to enter. Below are the details on how to enter and what you can win. 🙂

Here is the description of the LEGO SuperBots Contest: Create a video of your LEGO robot helping you do something super! It’s time to do some superpower thinking and show us your SuperBot! Make it super cool, super smart, or super fun, and tell us what makes your robot a SuperBot – and what dilemma, challenge, or chore it rescues you from! The greatest SuperBot will send the winner on a super-duper trip to LEGO World Copenhagen.

And here are some details on how to enter the contest: Create a robot using LEGO bricks and your LEGO MINDSTORMS robot (EV3 or earlier model) or LEGO Power Functions to solve an everyday challenge of your choosing. Create a 15-30 seconds video showing your creation in action. Upload your video to the video hosting site of your choice, such as YouTube. Enter the contest by going to the “submit entry” page on ReBrick and submit maximum 5 screenshots from your video. Make sure to also add the link to your video before you submit. Use the description field to describe your robot and its features. When you receive a “Success!” pop-up notification after clicking “submit” on the entry submission page, your entry has successfully been submitted. ReBrick’s moderation team will review it within 1-3 working days to make sure it fits all the contest rules. The deadline to enter is August 18th, 2017 at 10:00AM EST. If you’re not sure what time zone you’re in you can use an online time zone converter.

A panel of judges from the LEGO MINDSTORMS team will select one grand prize winner and 2 runner-ups. They will judge entries upon: super-factor originality – 25%, attention to contest theme – 25%, innovative building techniques and functions – 25%, and innovative use of LEGO elements – 25%. In addition, three bonus prize winners will be selected at random. The winner will be contacted on the email address associated with their LEGO ID account after August 28th, 2017 and announced on ReBrick when the winner has returned the signed Winner’s Certification Documents. A winner who does not return their Winner’s Certification Document within one week of receiving it will be disqualified, and a new winner will be selected.

There will be one grand prize winner, who will receive a trip for two to LEGO World Copenhagen 2018 in February, including transportation and hotel room stay, the #31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 signed by a LEGO MINDSTORMS designer, and a LEGO MINDSTORMS T-shirt. There will also be two runner up winners, who will receive the #31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 signed by a LEGO MINDSTORMS designer, and a LEGO MINDSTORMS T-shirt. And, there will be three bonus winners, who will receive a LEGO notebook and brick key chain, and a LEGO MINDSTORMS T-shirt.

So, if you have the LEGO MINDSTORMS  kit, or any LEGO Power Functions elements to make a robot, this is your chance to show your creative skills! When you are ready to enter, head over to the LEGO SuperBots Contest page, and make sure you read all the rules. Also, remember that the LEGO Cars 3 Brick Poster Contest is still open for a few more days.

What do you think? Are you planning to enter the LEGO SuperBots Contest? Do you have some ideas for making an awesome robot? And have you entered any of the previous contests? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

I’ve been wanting to get power functions… I guess now would be a good time!

Cool! Power Functions is awesome. I just recently started to get into it myself. Wishing you the best in the contest, if you decide to enter. 🙂

“They will judge entries upon: super-factor originality, … innovative building techniques and functions, and innovative use of LEGO elements.” Don’t forget to read your own rules when judging, LEGO. 😉
Anyways, this is a very interesting contest; sadly, I don’t have enough Power Functions (and no Mindstorms at all) to build anything for it. It’ll be interesting to see what the entries are like, though.
Also, I got the Summer 2017 LEGO magazine today, and I noticed that the City, Creator, Friends, and Elves sets don’t say “coming June 1.” A search of LEGO Shop revealed that they’re coming out tomorrow, May 28, which is nice. Everything else (SW, Saturn V, Carousel, etc.) is June 1. In addition, neither the #75880 McLaren 720S nor the #60162 Jungle Air Drop Helicopter are in the magazine or on LEGO Shop (yet). Is this because they’re limited retail sets? 😕

Oh, so they are splitting up the release? That’s actually pretty smart. I thought some people already got the McLaren. It may have been in another country though. I will try to put together a post for the 1st of the month to summarize all the new releases. Maybe you can take a look at it to make sure I got everything? I don’t have the new catalog yet, but hopefully will get it soon. Can’t wait! 🙂

They’re probably splitting the releases so people can buy the City, Creator, etc. before the rush to get the Saturn V and the Carousel crashes the LEGO Shop site on the 1st.
In Europe, the McLaren is coming out June 1, but there’s no sign of it on the North American side. Same with the Jungle Air Drop Helicopter. Maybe the US has to wait till August to get these two. 😕
I should be around on Thursday (June 1) to let you know if there’s anything you missed. But according to the magazine and LEGO Shop US, here’s a list of what’s coming out, for your reference:
May 28: City Jungle, Coast Guard, & other sets (total 13), Creator (5 sets), Elves (3 sets), and Friends (4 sets – we don’t get the Snow Resort sets yet, apparently, though the UK does).
June 1: Star Wars (9 regular sets [#75191 isn’t on LEGO Shop, but it’s in the magazine], 2 Buildable Figures), Batman Movie (5 sets), Marvel Super Heroes (2 sets), #10257 Carousel and #21309 Apollo Saturn V. Total of 20 sets. 🙂
One surprising thing about the magazine I just noticed is the complete absence of Nexo Knights, which is unusual as an in-house theme. Ninjago is also underrepresented, with one page showing only 2 sets and a notification about the Ninjago Movie. LEGO seems to be putting more effort into their licensed themes this year….

        • admin May 29, 2017, 11:39 AM

Ah, thanks! Perfect! Maybe that rumor of Nexo Knights getting canceled is true after all? We shall see… Ninjago is going to be big when the movie comes out, so they are just probably taking a break.

          • BLProductions May 29, 2017, 2:49 PM

That rumor is false; Nabii (aka Mark Stafford) said so in a comment on the Brickset article. Also, the set tags at the NY Toy Fair said the summer 2017 sets were being released on August 1. The UK (and probably the rest of Europe) will get them on June 1, but North America must wait two months.
I was actually referring to the absence of the current Nexo Knights sets (i.e., those released in January); the theme almost always has at least one page in LEGO magazines, but I suppose they might just have run out of room in this one.
Speaking of the Ninjago Movie: https://brickset.com/article/28299/ninjago-movie-set-images-at-toysrus-dk It looks cool, but I have no interest in it. For some reason I’m not interested in most of the theme’s sets; maybe my dislike of the movie is blinding me…. 😕
Also, are you going to write an article about the Hands of Time episodes? I have some thoughts on them but want to avoid giving spoilers in case some people haven’t seen them.

            • admin May 29, 2017, 2:57 PM

Good to hear about Nexo Knights! I didn’t see Mark’s comment. There are a couple of sets in the upcoming wave that I really like. I did see the Ninjago set, and I think it looks cool. But I want to wait until we see all of them, to decide which one(s) to get. I still like the red mech the most. 🙂

Would you like to write an article about Hands of Time? We could mark the article or certain paragraphs with a spoiler alert for people who haven’t seen the episodes yet, and also maybe keep the spoilers light. It has been a very complex season, so there is quite a bit that can be talked about. Anyway, if you are interested let me know. 😉

              • BLProductions May 29, 2017, 10:09 PM

Yeah, I’m waiting for official images of all the Ninjago Movie sets as well, and I’ll choose a favorite then.
Hmm, I might be able to write something for the Hands of Time, but I’m not sure. I’m going to be rather busy until after mid-June, and by then it would seem a little late for a discussion of the season. Spoilers would be inevitable, so I’d have to put an alert at the beginning. I’ll let you know if I can or cannot write an article after Thursday has passed, since I’ve many things to do this week. 🙂

That’s perfectly fine. Your articles/thoughts are always appreciated, but there is no pressure at all. 🙂
