LEGO Architecture Dream Skylines Contest

There is an interesting new contest at LEGO’s ReBrick website for LEGO Architecture fans. If you enjoy the LEGO Architecture collection, particularly the LEGO Architecture Skyline series, you may have already thought about recreating the skyline of your own favorite city. This contest is your opportunity to enter your model in a contest and for a chance to win some awesome prizes! Details below. 🙂

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – OVERVIEW: What place is close to your heart? Create a skyline from your favorite city or town, be it where you grew up, a place you love to visit, a place you fell in love, or even a fantasy city of your own creation! Working in the same style and scale as the LEGO Architecture Skyline series, create your dream skyline and share the story behind it for a chance to win big!

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – HOW TO ENTER: Choose a city close to your heart and build a skyline representing this city. Take up to five photos of your creation and submit them to the contest. Make sure to show off all angles of your creation. Use the description field to tell about your skyline – then hit “submit”. When you receive a “Success!” pop-up notification after clicking “submit” on the entry submission page, your entry has successfully been submitted. The ReBrick moderation team will review it within 1-3 working days to make sure it fits all the contest rules.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – RULES: Your entry must be no more than 8 studs wide and 36 studs long. Your entry should be the same size and scale as the current LEGO Architecture Skyline sets. Your city can be historical, modern day, or futuristic. Do not build a skyline specific to a IP world, such as a LEGO Batman, LEGO Harry Potter, or another a popular movie, comic book or book skyline (this includes The LEGO Movie). While your entry can show famous landmarks and buildings, your entry must not contain copies of any existing third party work or creation, or infringements of any third party intellectual property right. Avoid using pieces specific to an IP set or theme. You can enter as many entries as you would like, but only one entry per person will be considered when winners are selected. Use of LEGO Digital Designer to create your entry is allowed, along with photo editing software or adding effects to your entry. Entries must not contain LEGO elements which have been modified from their original form, including painted or cut elements. Entrants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of entry. You can read the rest of the entry guidelines and rules here.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – DEADLINE: You must submit your entry by August 1st, 2017 at 10:00AM EST. If you are not sure what time zone you are in, you can use an online time-zone converter to make sure you don’t miss the deadline.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – JUDGES: A panel of judges will select one grand prize winner and two runner ups. They will judge entries upon: overall coolness and originality – 25%, most inspired details on the skyline – 25%, attention to contest theme – 25%, best use of LEGO elements – 25%. The judges are: Rocco Buttliere, architecture student and LEGO buildings builder extraordinaire, and two representatives from the LEGO Architecture team.

Great contest! I might give this a shot!

Wishing you the best if you enter! 🙂

I just looked at the current entries and there are some great ideas there. What city you guys suggest building?

Jeff, you can do both real-world and fantasy cities, so there are plenty of choices. You can pretty much do any city skyline you like. Makes sure you read all the rules as there is some fine print about not using IPs and such. I’m thinking that a city that has some interesting buildings or other structures would have a good chance in the competition. But it’s up to you. 🙂

It’s a fun idea, and I’m excited to see another microscale contest. However, allowing both real and fantasy skylines will make it particularly hard to judge objectively. Aside from that, I hope TLG learned a thing or two from the mini modular contest and will apply their own contest rules more consistently this time.

That’s true about the difficulty of judging such mixed entries. It seems that a lot of the Rebrick contests are not thought through sufficiently, and the rules are often weird and even contradictory. Still, they are run by LEGO, they are fun and challenging, and the prizes are always amazing. I usually look at the entries to see how others interpreted the rules, and it is also a good idea to check the comment section, as admins answer questions there.

While unclear rules can be edited and clarified, the huge issue with the Mini Modulars contest was that their own admins and judges didn’t follow the rules they set up, and when they were called out on this, they doubled down. Of course, what could they do? They couldn’t just take the prizes away from the grand prize winner and give them to someone else. However an apology for ignoring their own rules would have helped. Comments are still coming in on that contest even though it has been closed quite a while ago. I also hope the admins and judges learned from their mistakes…

I have some ideas for this, but it’s definitely challenging to build a whole skyline so small. May give it a try.

Go for it! While building at this scale is challenging, the good thing is that it doesn’t require too many pieces. 🙂

I am thinking of entering, but I am not sure…
My idea was the Cuhutanian City in Mid-Chocono, the Cuhuti’s live in the tree’s, but are very advanced with technology and are quite advanced with magic. I have read the part about that you are not aloud to enter fantasy worlds described in books movies and games, but mine is not in of them! So what do you say? Shall I enter?

    • admin June 20, 2017, 4:02 PM

That sounds intriguing! You can also add a description to your entry where you can describe the story, so that should also help. Go ahead, have fun! 🙂

      • PrashBricks June 21, 2017, 9:43 AM

Thanks! I will surely add a discription, by the way, I also have a Cuhuti sprite, may it be possible to add it somewhere?

        • admin June 21, 2017, 11:11 AM

You can submit more than one entry, if that’s what you are asking. 🙂

          • Håkan June 21, 2017, 4:52 PM

Or do you mean you would like another avatar than the green squares you are having now?

  • gid617 June 20, 2017, 5:28 PM

After winning Marchitecture with a skyline I built in two days, I feel like it would be irresponsible not to enter this one. 😀 Plus, the last skyline was really fun (at least, in retrospect… now that I think about it, finding a good solution for the Gateway Arch was a little tricky…). In fact, I had been planning on trying my hand at more skylines some time down the road, so this might be the incentive I need to put it at the top of my (all-too-long…) to-build list! 😉

    • admin June 20, 2017, 8:52 PM

Yeah, go for it! Sounds like you already have lots of experience! 😀

  • yop1172 June 20, 2017, 10:01 PM

I will make México city (where i’m from) I hope to win almost a runner up, because there aren’t architecture sets in Mexico, ot just sometimes but it’s too hard to find them, and also are too expensive!

    • admin June 20, 2017, 10:29 PM

Oh, Mexico City is a great idea! And the city does have an interesting and varied skyline! Put lots of little VW Beetle taxis in there too! 😀
