LEGO Minecraft Mountain Cave available!

Just a reminder that the #21137 LEGO Minecraft Mountain Cave set is now available for LEGO VIP members. General release is going to be next month. This is a massive set with over 2,860 pieces and the largest LEGO Minecraft set ever released. The set is also an excellent source of basic LEGO elements, including a large number of sand-green plates. Below is the full description and designer-video, so you can check it out in more detail. 🙂

Here is the official description: Build and experience the Mountain Cave, featuring an amazing minecart track with an integrated redstone‑powered minecart elevator, and an array of other features and functions, including TNT blasting, rotating spider‑spawner, charged Creeper explosion and a lava burst. Position the light-brick to illuminate the rotating spider-spawner, wall of redstone, jack o’lantern, first-night shelter, furnace, lava or the torch above the cave entrance. Enjoy hands‑on Minecraft adventures featuring your favorite characters and objects with this easy-to-reconfigure, modular LEGO Minecraft set designed for young fans of the highly successful sandbox video game. Includes Steve and Alex minifigures, plus 13 mobs; a cave spider, wolf, baby wolf, slime, 2 small slimes, 2 bats, zombie, enderman, skeleton, sheep and a charged Creeper. Measures over 12” (31cm) high, 20” (53cm) wide and 11” (29cm) deep. 2,863 pieces. Price: $249.99 – BUY HERE

As you can see, the set is huge, but also very stable due to the LEGO Technic frame and lots of basic LEGO elements that are solidly locked together. The rail and the elevator seems to be working well, and that big gaping cave inside looks like a fun place to play.

The large assortment of minifigures and mobs make this the ultimate LEGO Minecraft set, however if you want to, you can also connect it to other sets in the LEGO Minecraft collection for an even larger layout. And just like all previous LEGO Minecraft sets, the set is modular, so you can easily move pre-built sections around for a different look.

LEGO Minecraft is clearly very popular as evidenced by all the large sets that have been released in the past couple of years. So far we got the #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress (984 pieces), the #21128 LEGO Minecraft The Village (1600 pieces). And there is also the upcoming #21136 LEGO Minecraft The Ocean Monument (1122 pieces), and of course the #21137 LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave. Plus a large number of small to medium sets as well. You can find all the currently available sets under the LEGO Minecraft section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave? Do you play the game? And do you have any of the other LEGO Minecraft sets? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Not my cup of tea, although I can see the appeal.

Except for The Ocean Monument, though. That was underwhelming. Not the most impressive structure to make into a set…

I think kids will like it. Kids love caves! 😀

P.S.: I never met an adult who is really into the LEGO Minecraft sets. However they are obviously popular with kids, otherwise LEGO wouldn’t keep making more and more. 🙄

    OMG, this set is big!

    • admin June 19, 2017, 3:55 PM

Yeah, big, huge, giant, humongous! 😀

Looks really fun. I especially like the elevator and the inside of the cave. The light brick is a nice touch. I think a lot of kids are going to have fun with this.

Impressive size! And a great way to get lots of basic bricks. We basically consider them like lego classic bins but with earth toned colors.

The thing is that for Classic bins, the sets are rather overpriced…

The Minecraft sets are really not bad when it comes to pricing. At least not in the US. The Mountain Cave is 8 cents a piece, which is a great price. Comparatively, the LEGO Classic sets are about 7.5 cents, so they are hardly any less. Plus Minecraft sets also come with minifigs, which the Classic sets don’t have. If someone doesn’t care for Minecraft and only want the parts, they can sell the minifigs to make the Minecraft sets an even better deal. So, all in all, I agree with Hayato that they are a great way to get earthy colors in bulk. Of course, prices in other countries might be different. 🙂

I have a Steve minifig from some random bulk sale (and a pixeled bow). I have to admit he’s pretty cute.

My favorite Minecraft character is The Creeper. It’s such an interesting design! And very cute too! 😀

              I lack a Creeper, but I think I have a Micromob Enderman somewhere…

What I think is Interesting is that LEGO uses just the basic everyday brick to do make something with out a lot of detail in it, but, has certain type of detail that uses colors and shapes to create detail. Does make any sense?

    • Håkan June 19, 2017, 6:42 PM

I think that’s inspired by the blocky design of the original game…

Yes, exactly! LEGO has been getting a lot of criticism from old-school LEGO fans for using too many specialized pieces. With LEGO Classic and LEGO Minecraft they really should have nothing to complain about any more. The suggested models in the LEGO Classic sets are amazing, and the Minecraft sets are super impressive!

I guess I’m not much of an old school fan then even though I’m turning 48 this week! 🙁 Hey, one thing I really like about the current sets (Especially with the modular buildings) is the fun little details of smaller parts and look forward to seeing new and different types of pieces I’ve not worked with before. (I’m assuming that what specialized parts means.)

But then I still not sure if I’ve reached full adulthood yet anyway. 😉

Happy Birthday! As the saying goes; growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional! 🙂

Specialized pieces usually refers to large moulds that are specific for just a couple of sets and have limited use. LEGO has been really good in the past few years to avoid those, so they don’t show up as often any more. Small decorative pieces with many uses are awesome. I don’t think anyone is complaining about those.

            Thanks!

Yup, that does make sense as far as complaints for specialized pieces goes. Thanks for the heads-up.

  • Diamond655 June 19, 2017, 6:06 PM

Can we just admire how much detail LEGO puts into these without any specialized pieces apart from the characters?

    • admin June 19, 2017, 10:22 PM

Yes, definitely! So much to see and admire here!

  • Legostuff71 June 19, 2017, 6:37 PM

I forgot the word “it” in my last sentence. Anyways , I agree and do appreciate the work that LEGO puts in there designs . This reminds us what you can do with just the basic brick and you don ‘t have to make a special mold to do it .
