Building Better Days LEGO building contest

I have been contacted by a non-profit charity called Building Better Days that provides building toys to hospitalized children in Maryland. The organization was born out of the inspiration of a 12-year-old boy named Ben, who was diagnosed with lymphoma, and spent long weeks in the hospital getting chemo and recovering from treatments. Ben’s favorite thing to do during his hospital stay was to build with LEGO and other building toys. After completing his treatment, Ben decided that he wanted to help other kids who were in the hospital, and bring a bit of joy to them by providing building toys. You can learn more at the BuildingBetterDays.com website and Facebook page. It sounds like a great organization. 🙂

Building Better Days also regularly runs building contests, both live and online, just for a bit of building fun for kids and teens. They asked me to share with our readers about a contest they are currently running. Please note that contests like this often have much more relaxed rules and standards than official LEGO building competitions. You can use LEGO, Mega Construx (formerly Mega Bloks), and similar building toys, and build pretty much whatever you like within the rules. It’s just for fun, and the prizes are pretty nice, so you might want to participate, or know a child or teen who would. Below are the details.

BUILDING BETTER DAYS CONTEST – OVERVIEW: Do you love building with LEGO? If so, enter the Building Better Days Building Contest. Build an original creation out of your favorite bricks, take a picture, and enter to win at BuildingBetterDays.com.

BUILDING BETTER DAYS CONTEST – RULES: This contest is open to children and teens up to age 18 with the consent of parent/guardian in the United States. Your entry must be an original creation. Only one entry per person. You can use any style building brick (examples are LEGO, K’Nex, Mega Bloks). To enter the contest complete the registration form, and take a photo of your completed original creation and upload it in the registration form. You can read more details on the contest entry page.

BUILDING BETTER DAYS CONTEST – DEADLINE: The contest registration form must be completed and submitted by midnight Eastern Standard Time on November 1, 2017. You must register and submit an image of your creation for the contest at BuildingBetterDays.com from October 1, 2017 through November 1, 2017.

BUILDING BETTER DAYS CONTEST – JUDGES: Entries will be judged by Building Better Days volunteers and the winners will be selected based on creativity and originality. Winners will be announced on the Building Better Days Facebook page on November 13, 2017.

BUILDING BETTER DAYS CONTEST – PRIZES: One first place builder will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. Three runner-up builders will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. Six special category builders will receive a $25 Wawa gift card, which can be used at Wawa convenience stores and gas stations as well as at their online shop. (The Wawa Foundation is the sponsor of this contest.)

I think this would be a great contest to participate in for children who never entered a LEGO building contest before, as the rules are less strict and intimidating. It would give them valuable experience in designing and building a model, as well as taking pictures, and submitting their creation to the contest. And don’t forget about the other exciting LEGO building contests still currently running (see links at the end of this post). There is something for everyone to participate in!

What do you think? How do you like the Building Better Days Building Contest? Are you planning to enter? Do you have some ideas already? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

That is so awesome! I mean there are times when I ‘m down and I work on a LEGO set ,it is definitely an uplifting experience. So for children that are sick and in the hospital, I think that is an excellent idea. I was about five years old when I had open heart surgery. I remember being a combination of scared and sad at the same time. I wish I started LEGO back then . It would a made things a lot easier.

Yeah… hospitals are very scary places, even for an adult, not to speak of a child!

Sadly, I don’t live in America, so I probably can’t participate.

Yeah, this one is for the US only, as this is just a small non-profit organization. It’s tough to run international contests as there are so many rules and regulations. Especially if the contest is run for children. Even when I was visiting Mega this week, I was told they don’t run contests because they simply don’t have the lawyers to deal with it. However you can participate in most of the LEGO-run contests. 🙂
