LEGO Ultimate Trains Contest – great prizes!

Looks like LEGO is determined to continue challenging the LEGO fan community, because they just launched another excellent contest (see about other currently running contests at the end of this post). The most recently announced event is titled the LEGO Ultimate Trains Contest and it offers both a fun challenge and generous prizes. Details are below. 🙂

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – OVERVIEW: Calling all train enthusiasts, here’s your opportunity to show off your skills in the LEGO Ultimate Train Contest! What train can you build for the #10259 LEGO Creator Winter Village Station? Build the most awesome of awesome trains for a chance to win the ultimate train prize package. All aboard! (Please note that while the #10259 LEGO Creator Winter Village Station is holiday themed, your train doesn’t have to be. It just needs to physically fit the station and tracks. In other words, your train needs to be six studs wide across and be LEGO minifigure-scale.)

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – HOW TO ENTER: Build your LEGO train. Take up to five photos of your creation and submit them to the contest. Make sure to show off all angles of your creation. Use the description field to describe your train – then hit “submit”. When you receive a “Success!” pop-up notification after clicking “submit”, your entry has successfully been submitted. The ReBrick moderation team will review it within 1-3 working days to make sure it fits all the contest rules.

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – RULES: Your train must be six studs wide across, no larger or smaller, but can have any number of cars, there’s no length requirement. Although the set is a winter/holiday themed train station, your train does not need to be winter or holiday themed. Trains should be minifigure-scale. You do not need to show your train with the station. Entries with military themes will not be eligible for the contest. Entries containing defamatory or degrading elements will not be eligible for the contest. Entries consisting of or containing copies of any existing third party work or creation or infringements of any third party intellectual property right will not be eligible for the contest. Your entry should not contain any third party IPs. This means entries containing licensed characters, minifigure parts or accessories, or printed pieces specific to Marvel and DC super heroes, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc. will not be eligible for the contest. Only original characters or LEGO created IPs, such as LEGO Friends, LEGO NEXO Knights, and LEGO Elves, are allowed. Entries can be previously built, but cannot be submitted previously in any contest of any kind competing for a prize. Use of LEGO Digital Designer to create your entry is allowed, along with photo editing software or adding effects to your entry. Entries must not contain LEGO elements which have been modified from their original form, including painted or cut elements. Entrants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of entry. You can read the rest of the entry guidelines and rules here.

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – DEADLINE: You must submit your entry by October 30th, 2017 at 10:00 AM EST. If you are not sure what time zone you are in, you can use an online time-zone converter to make sure you don’t miss the deadline.

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – JUDGES: A panel of judges from the Online LEGO Shop team will select one grand prize winner and two runner ups. They will judge entries upon: overall coolness and originality – 25%, most inspired detail – 25%, relevance to contest theme – 25%, best use of LEGO elements – 25%.

LEGO ULTIMATE TRAINS CONTEST – PRIZES: There will be one grand prize winner, who will receive: the #10254 LEGO Creator Holiday Train, #10259 LEGO Creator Winter Village Station, LEGO Power Function elements to motorize a train (#88002 LEGO Train Motor, #8884 LEGO IR Receiver, #8879 LEGO Remote Control, #8878 LEGO Rechargeable Battery Box, #45517 LEGO Transformer compatible with the winner’s country’s electric outlets), five sets of #7499 LEGO Flexible & Straight Train Tracks, and three sets of #7895 LEGO Switching Tracks. Two runner up winners will receive: #10259 LEGO Winter Village Station. In addition, one bonus winner chosen at random will receive: #10259 LEGO Winter Village Station.

LEGO TRAINS CONTEST – WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT: Winners will be contacted on the email address associated with their LEGO ID account after November 3rd, 2017 and announced on ReBrick when the winners returned the signed Winner’s Certification Documents. A winner who does not return their Winner’s Certification Document within one week (5 days) of receiving it will be disqualified, and a new winner will be selected.

LEGO is running a number of contests right now for teen and adult fans (see links at the end of this post), so you have plenty of challenges to choose from. Or, if you are ambitious, you can even enter all of them! The prizes for all of the contests are amazing, so it’s worth giving it a try!

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Ultimate Trains contest? Are you planning to enter? Do you have some ideas already? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

So, you can basically build any train as long as it fits regular tracks and can pull up to the station? What about a zombie train? Is that allowed?

    • admin October 6, 2017, 1:42 PM

I don’t see why not. There is not discrimination against zombies on trains. 😈

I like this contest, and I think it’s perfect for train builders. The question is what kind of train to build? You can just build a regular train, but perhaps the judges are looking for something more creative, like the zombie train David talked about. I think I might wait until I see some of the entries by others.

It’s always a good idea to see what the competition is building. It can give you a better interpretation of the contest, and also get a feel for the opponents. Of course, maybe everyone will misinterpret the rules. It happened before. 🙄

I so want to see someone enter a zombie train! Seriously, great contest, and really nice prizes! I’m tempted to enter, but just so busy with work right now.

      Train to Busanta!

(Btw, great movie if you like the genre…)

And even if you could build anything, I guess you have to make the train match the set in some way, such as style or color scheme…

  • TomTom October 6, 2017, 12:58 PM

It is a little confusing what they mean by saying that it should match the station. Do they mean by size, style, color? Or all of that? And it also has holiday decorations? But it says in the rules that it doesn’t have to be holiday themed.

    • Håkan October 6, 2017, 1:09 PM

I don’t think the rules explicitly state the train needs to match the station. I just think it would make sense.

      • admin October 6, 2017, 1:46 PM

It just says it needs to “physically fit” the station and the tracks (basically it just needs to be 6-studs wide), so I think any type of train is fair game. 🙂

It will be interesting to see what people come up with.

Mostly, I’m thrilled to see Lego investing in the Winter Village concept. I’d still like them to come up with a package of white and clear pieces suitable for building terrain and some larger and more varied trees for landscaping. But anything that keeps them focusing on and adding to the Winter Village makes me happy, happy, HAPPY!

You should still be able to order loose pieces on Bricklink and Lego’s parts section… Bits and Pieces, or what it was called…

      • admin October 6, 2017, 6:54 PM

Yes, both of those are great resources for loose pieces. 🙂

      • rainey October 6, 2017, 8:57 PM

I know that’s true but I’d have to know what I wanted. I don’t work like that. I know I’d want some white plates of various sizes and then I’d just need a floorful of white elements — bricks and slopes, etc — to create some height and roll for the terrain.

I suspect that lots of people would have a similar approach so if they put together a Classic building set of white pieces people could buy as many as they need or the budget would allow and then create.

What’s a train without some hills and valleys and narrow snowy passes to plow through? Makes a safe arrival at the station all that much more satisfactory, right?

        • admin October 7, 2017, 2:17 PM

Your description was so picturesque I could see the whole landscape! 😀

    • admin October 6, 2017, 6:54 PM

I’m glad you saw this announcement, as I know you really like the theme. And yes, it looks like LEGO got the message that fans really like the Winter Village collection, and hopefully they will continue until there is interest. 🙂

How are things? Do you have any sense of normalcy again?

Wishing you well getting your life back on track!

          ‘No pun intended’ …

        • admin October 7, 2017, 2:16 PM

We are doing good. Thanks for asking. Our internet cable line was just put back earlier this week. Finally! (We were only out of Internet connection for a week, but because the cable company was repairing things in stages, they left the cable just lying on the ground until now.) There are still huge piles of tree debris everywhere. The city said it will take them until the end of the year to clear the streets. Our next door neighbor still has a giant tree crashed through his roof. Repair people and insurance companies are moving very slowly as there is so much work to do. We haven’t had much rain since Irma, which is a good thing, as so many people had their roofs crashed in due to fallen trees, and many neighborhoods closer to lakes and rivers are still flooded. Also, a number of roads are still closed, including major highways (due to flooding). There is so much damage, and we weren’t even the hardest hit town. It’s going to be a slow process to clean all of this up. My heart goes out to people in Puerto Rico and other islands, where things are moving even slower…

It is my birthday today! ;D

Well, very Happy Birthday then! 😀

      • PrashBricks III October 9, 2017, 12:30 PM

Thanks! 😀 [I still do not have an idea what to buy though…]

Hm… flip a coin to decide? It sometimes helps. 🙄
