November 2017 – new LEGO sets & promotions

Hope you had a great Halloween, and are excited about the beginning of the holiday season! LEGO is a big part of the holiday tradition for many families, including building the LEGO Winter Village setup, gifting LEGO sets to friends and family, and spending more time building together when it’s too cold outside. Of course, LEGO knows this, and they try to please their fans with holiday sets, great selection of new sets, freebies and more. So let’s take a look at what’s available for LEGO fans this month! 🙂

FREE LEGO HOLIDAY COUNTDOWN SET: Last year’s #40222 LEGO Holiday Countdown Set proved to be very popular freebie, and this year, LEGO continues the tradition with the very similar #40253 LEGO Holiday Countdown Set. Both sets come with about 250 pieces, which allows you to build 24 little holiday-themed models, similar to what you find in the LEGO Advent Calendar sets. The LEGO Holiday Countdown Set is free with any purchase of $99 or more until November 15th at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO NUTCRACKER: The second freebie is the #40254 LEGO Nutcracker brick-built figure. It will be available on Black Friday weekend (November 24-27) with purchases of $99 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO DOUBLE VIP POINTS: On November 18 and 19, LEGO VIP members will earn Double VIP Points and will also have early access to the Brick Friday specials (see below).

LEGO BRICK FRIDAY SPECIALS: During the Black Friday weekend (November 24-27), LEGO fans will get the aforementioned #40254 LEGO Nutcracker brick-built figure with purchases of $99 or more, a free LEGO Canvas Tote Bag with purchases of $199 or more, and there will be select items on sale as well. In addition shipping will be free on all orders at the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO WINTER VILLAGE STATION AVAILABLE: The #10259 LEGO Winter Village Station is the latest in the LEGO Winter Village series, and a perfect addition to the #10254 LEGO Winter Village Holiday Train from last year. You can find both sets under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO HOLIDAY ADVENT CALENDARS AVAILABLE: The #60155 LEGO City Advent Calendar, the #41326 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar, and the #75184 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar are the latest in the series, and include lots of fun mini-builds for each day counting down to Christmas. You can find them under the seasonal sets section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO SEASONAL SETS AVAILABLE: There are also some really sweet small sets perfect for the holiday season for play, display, and as stocking-stuffers. This includes the #40261 LEGO Thanksgiving Harvest, the #40262 LEGO Christmas Train Ride, and the #40263 LEGO Christmas Town Square. They are only $9.99 each, and are available under the seasonal sets section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO IDEAS WOMEN OF NASA AVAILABLE: The #21312 LEGO Ideas Women of NASA set is now available! We talked about this set in detail here: LEGO Ideas Women of NASA Revealed! Remember that this is a limited-release set, and I expect it to sell out just as fast as the #21110 LEGO Ideas Research Institute in 2014. The price is a very reasonable $24.99. You can find it under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO STAR WARS BRICKHEADZ AVAILABLE: Two new sets are available in the LEGO BrickHeadz collection, this time for LEGO Star Wars fans. The two sets are the #41485 LEGO BrickHeadz Finn, and the #41486 LEGO BrickHeadz Captain Phasma. Both sets are $9.99 each, and area available under the LEGO BrickHeadz section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO THE BATMAN MOVIE THE JOKER MANOR: The #70922 LEGO Batman Movie The Joker’s Manor will be available starting on November 24th. We have talked about this set in detail here: LEGO Batman Movie The Joker’s Manor. The set comes with 3,444 pieces, and the price is $269.99. If you want to check it out in more detail, it is listed under The LEGO Batman Movie section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CREATOR EXPERT TAJ MAHAL: The #10256 LEGO Creator Taj Mahal (a re-release of the #10189 LEGO Creator Taj Mahal from 2008 with a new box design). We talked about the re-release in detail here: LEGO Creator Taj Mahal Coming Back! It is one of the largest LEGO sets ever released, with 5,923 pieces, and the price of the new set is $369.99. If you liked the original, but haven’t had a chance to get it before it was retired this is your second chance. The price is $369.99, and the set is going to be available on November 27th under LEGO Creator Expert section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO STAR WARS UCS MILLENNIUM FALCON: According to the information I got on the LEGO Ambassador Forum, LEGO is still trying to catch up with orders on the #75192 LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon from September, but hopefully they will have some left over for new customers. I will keep you updated on this, and you can also check directly at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO NASA APOLLO SATURN V: The #21309 LEGO Ideas Apollo Saturn V is another set which LEGO is having a hard time keeping in stock. Since its initial release back in June, it only became available a couple of times for very brief periods of just a few hours. LEGO assured that they are going to make more to fill the demand, but when they will be able to catch up is unknown at this point. Hopefully, they will make it available so at least some people can buy it for the holidays. For updates, check the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

As you can see, there are tons of fun and awesome new sets to chose from, and even if the #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, and the #75192 LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Millennium Falcon don’t come back before Christmas, there are many-many other sets that you might consider. This includes the new LEGO Star Wars: The Last Jedi sets, the beautiful #21310 LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store, the LEGO Juniors sets for younger builders, the LEGO Disney sets, the lovely LEGO Friends Snow Resort sets, the LEGO Minecraft sets, the last wave of the LEGO Nexo Knights sets, LEGO Super Heroes sets (both for DC and Marvel fans), the LEGO Super Hero Girls sets, The LEGO Ninjago Movie collection, all the new LEGO Technic sets, the LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox, the LEGO Creator London Bus, and more. And before you check out, I also recommend taking a look at the sales and deals section of the Online LEGO Shop to see what’s on clearance.

In summary, remember the dates of the freebies so you don’t miss out on them, and also keep an eye on the release dates of the new sets (I will post reminders on these as well), and the Double VIP Points period (especially if you are planning to purchase some large sets). We don’t know yet which sets will be on sale during the Brick Friday weekend, but based on patterns from previous years, it will likely be a clearance sale on some of the older sets, so keep an eye on these too. All the specials are the same at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop, so if you prefer shopping in peace and quiet, I would suggest the online route.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to some of the new sets? Which one is your favorite? And what you are you planning to get for the holidays? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below! 😉

Just ordered the NASA set and the Winter Village Train station. Thanks for listing all the new sets and promos every month. Very helpful.

    • admin November 1, 2017, 3:19 PM

You’re very welcome! I ordered my Women of NASA set this morning too! I wanted to make sure to get one before they run out. 😀

  • LEGOJeff November 1, 2017, 11:11 AM

I don’t think the freebies are that interesting, but there is definitely a great selection sets. The Joker’s Manor looks interesting. I wonder if Jangbricks is going to review it. I want to see the details.

    • admin November 1, 2017, 3:20 PM

JANG has been recently focusing on building his own city, but he still reviews new sets. I’m fairly certain that if he can purchase the Joker’s Manor, he will review it. 🙂

Can’t help being a little kid again , when the holidays are just around the corner and LEGO has lots of interesting sets out . The NINJAGO city and the Assembly square is on my list and maybe a few STAR WARS sets in between. The worst case scenario I would at least complete the jungle theme. ( that’s on list as plan B).

    • admin November 1, 2017, 3:21 PM

The Jungle theme is fantastic! Also, I just got my new LEGO Catalog yesterday and there are some really nice picture spreads inside of the City sets. 🙂

Is it worth getting the calendars if you are already getting the free version? What’s the difference?

    • Icepacklady November 1, 2017, 1:08 PM

The difference between the free thing and the calendar is that the free thing gives you instructions to build 24 things but you can’t have them all built at once. You have to re-use your parts. The advent calendars are all free standing builds so at the end of the month you have all 24 builds.

      • Håkan November 1, 2017, 1:21 PM

Some of the builds in the free calendar seem like lackluster phone-ins, as well. They work better as part packs…

        • admin November 1, 2017, 3:26 PM

Yes, but it’s free, so there is that. 🙂

      • admin November 1, 2017, 3:26 PM

Yes, thanks for clarifying that. 🙂

  • waverider November 1, 2017, 12:02 PM

They better get the Falcon back in stock! What’s taking so long to make more? And the wait on the Saturn V is ridiculous! It has been half a year and they still can’t keep it in stock! Grrrr….

    • admin November 1, 2017, 3:23 PM

From everything I have heard, they are working on producing more of both sets. LEGO’s factories are running 24/7 and they are on a very-very tight schedule, so fitting in making more of a particular set is not always easy. But as I said, they are working on it, so hang in there!

  • TomTom November 1, 2017, 12:59 PM

I have been on the fence about collecting Brickheadz. They do look good on display and are fun builds, but I don’t like all of them. I could just get the ones I like, but then I will always feel like I’m missing the rest of the collection. Does anyone know if Lego is continuing to make more?

    • admin November 1, 2017, 3:25 PM

My understanding is that they will continue the collection at least through 2018. Basically, as long as they sell, there is no reason for LEGO to stop them. It’s not that hard to keep up, as they only release a couple of new figures at a time, and they are only $10 each. If you are attracted to them at all, I think they are a nice collectible, and a re worth getting all of them. But you can always just choose to pick the ones you like. 🙂

I just wanted to add that it’s definitely worth motorizing the holiday train. We always had a lego train going around the Christmas tree. It brings everything alive, and both kids and parents love it. And I also remember reading an article here last year about the Winter Village layouts. The train going around the village just makes it so much more perfect.

I know the PF parts are extra money that people could spend elsewhere, but I think it’s a great investment. Get the regular battery box instead of the rechargeable one, and just use rechargeable batteries. This brings the price down considerably.

    • admin November 2, 2017, 11:11 AM

Yes, adding Power Functions definitely makes trains a lot more interactive and fun. I would also add that the PF components are also fully compatible with all other LEGO sets, so once you get them you will be able to motorize pretty much any LEGO set. And I agree that the battery box is a better choice both because of the much cheaper price and because you can always exchange the batteries when they start to deteriorate.

  • Legostuff71 November 1, 2017, 6:53 PM

So, I need your opinion on something , which of the two jungle sets is better? 60162 jungle air drop helicopter or 60161 jungle exploration site. Honestly I would love to get both but I don’t know if that’ll work.

    • Håkan November 1, 2017, 10:23 PM

I think the scenery in 60161 is slightly better, but then, on the whole, the theme is rather vehicle-based.

    • admin November 2, 2017, 11:20 AM

That’s a tough one, as they are very similar looking sets. I personally prefer #60162 because of the more substantial ruins, but they really are very similar in many aspects; both have the same number of minifigs, an alligator, a big cat, and three useful vehicles. I think you will need to look at each component very carefully and see which one comes out ahead. For example, compare the two ATV’s and see which one you like better, and put a checkmark next to your preference. Same with the helicopters, the ruins, the accessories, etc. Whichever set ends up with more checkmarks would be the one to get. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 November 1, 2017, 11:21 PM

Off topic) I Saw the Playmobil Ghostbusters stay puff marshmallow man set . I think it might fit my LEGO Ghostbusters theme ? What do you think?

    • Håkan November 2, 2017, 8:26 AM

You mean, just including the Playmobil character? Sure, I guess, size-wise it might fit better.

If you don’t have time and parts enough to build your own…

    • admin November 2, 2017, 11:42 AM

While I love PlayMobil, and they definitely produce very high quality toys, there are also some things you need to consider.

1.) PlayMobil sets are much larger scale than LEGO. Once you get into collecting PlayMobil, you quickly realize that they take up a huge amount of space.

2.) While PlayMobil is modular to some extent, it is not as interchangeable as LEGO, so you can’t really free-build the same way as with LEGO elements. This makes customization a lot more difficult.

3.) PlayMobil is just as addictive as LEGO. They really do produce some beautiful sets and themes. Sometimes I have a hard time dragging myself away from TRU, when I see their medieval, Roman, Viking, Egyptian, and other historic sets.

4.) PlayMobil is just as expensive as LEGO, but takes up much more space and is less interactive. So once you buy and put together the sets, they will pretty much just collect dust. LEGO has much better long-term value in this regard.

5.) PlayMobil is not compatible with LEGO. If you get into brands like Mega Construx, Oxford, Kre-O, or the products of LEGO customizers, you basically have one hobby, (fully compatible construction toys) that you can expand on and mix and match as much or as little as you want. PlayMobil is a whole separate hobby that you need both space and money for.

If you can restrict yourself to a couple of PlayMobil sets, it could work. But again, I want to emphasize that once you start looking at the sets and themes PlayMobil produces, it is hard to stop. So it’s best to just stop looking. 😉

      • Håkan November 2, 2017, 4:39 PM

I interpreted the query as just including the Playmobil Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man in the GB Lego builds…

And just for that, it could probably work, since he is sort of under-sized compared to the movie version, anyway.

  • brickmaster November 2, 2017, 2:01 PM

I also found going through the Lego catalog helpful in picking sets. Especially if you don’t have a store near you. They don’t list everything, but looking at the pictures feels different than online. They also have a page where you can write down your favorites. I suppose this is for kids, but nothing stops you from using it for your own purposes.

    • admin November 2, 2017, 3:39 PM

I also like the sales catalogs, especially the holiday one that just came out. And yes, I agree that it’s nice to go over it to make selections. Later, LEGO also releases smaller holiday catalogs with suggestions for stocking stuffers, sets for different age-groups, etc. Those are helpful too. We will also publish a list before the end of the month to help make shopping a bit less daunting. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 November 2, 2017, 3:42 PM

I actually had had Playmobil when I was very young age . I only going to use the stay puff mars mellow man , but, I don’t think I ‘ll do it . I have. Christmas shopping on the brain. I just found out that the Family member that gets me large LEGO sets may not be able to do my list. This Family member happens to be a teacher and her District is about ready to go on strike. So, this means that the finances are going to be a bit low this year. ( it’s the same thing , the District has money and won’t distribute it to the teachers properly). So, I don’t know what’s going to happen ?

    • Håkan November 2, 2017, 4:40 PM

Ah yeah, it sounds tough, so time to check on your priorities…

  • Legostuff71 November 2, 2017, 5:56 PM

Exactly ,somethings are more important. There’s always next year.
