2018 LEGO sets & themes announced!

With the New York Toy Fair happening this weekend (February 17-20), we can expect quite a bit of interesting news. Even though LEGO announced earlier that they won’t be showcasing new sets and themes from the second half of the year, we should still be able to take a look at some of the spring and summer sets we have heard about from the German Toy Fair that took place last month. In addition to whatever information we will be able to get from the New York Toy Fair, LEGO also made a number of announcements about new sets and themes coming later this year. These may or may not be displayed at the New York Toy Fair, but they are definitely worth talking about. So let’s take a look. 🙂

2018 LEGO HARRY POTTER SETS: Yesterday, LEGO officially announced the return of the LEGO Harry Potter theme, and shared images of the #75954 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall. There will be at least five sets in the collection; three for Harry Potter, and two for Fantastic Beasts. And we will also get a collection of LEGO Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures and some Harry Potter themed LEGO BrickHeadz. 2018 LEGO STAR WARS SETS: There will be at least five sets coming at the end of April related to upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film, one of which has been officially announced by LEGO earlier this week. The #75212 LEGO Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon sports a white and blue color-scheme and a modified front section. It will include Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Qi’Ra, Quay Tolsite, Kessel Operations Droid, and DD-BD. 1,414 pieces. 2018 LEGO JURASSIC WORLD SETS: The LEGO Jurassic World theme is coming back, with a number of new sets related to the upcoming Jurassic World; Fallen Kingdom film. This includes five regular sets, three sets under the LEGO Juniors collection, and at least a couple of LEGO DUPLO sets. They will be available prior to the release of the movie on June 22nd, at LEGO retailers and the Online LEGO Shop.

2018 LEGO POWERPUFF GIRLS SETS: Also revealed earlier this week, there will be at least two sets under the LEGO PowerPuff Girls line; the #41287 LEGO PowerPuff Girls Bubbles Playground Showdown and the #41288 LEGO PowerPuff Girls Mojo Jojo Strikes. Below is a picture of the characters, including Princess Morbucks, Octi, Donny the Unicorn, Mojo Jojo, Buttercup, Bubbles, and Blossom. The sets will be available this summer through LEGO retailers and the Online LEGO Shop.

2018 LEGO SPEED CHAMPIONS SETS: The 2018 LEGO Speed Champions sets will be available at the beginning of March, and to whet our appetite, Ford made a special announcement about the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback race car that will come in the #75884 LEGO Speed Champions Ford Mustang Fastback set.

As a tribute to America’s favorite sports car, the 183-piece Ford Mustang kit features green bodywork with gold dual stripes and wheels, race graphic stickers, removable windscreen and a minifigure driver wearing a classic racing suit. For added fun, the race car set includes a Ford-branded timing board. “The new Ford Mustang LEGO Speed Champions set gives parents and children the chance to share their passions – generations of fans have grown up building LEGO sets and spending time together behind the wheel,” said Myra Lind, LEGO Speed Champions marketing manager. “This partnership of iconic brands allows kids of all ages to enjoy the latest products from two great companies.” As a natural fit for the new 2018 Mustang launch – the most personalized Mustang ever – Ford’s Design and Licensing teams worked closely with LEGO to create a 1968 Mustang fastback race car set that speaks to the passion, creativity and personalization pony car fans will appreciate. “We worked closely with LEGO to design a vintage Mustang, personalizing the fastback with stripes and decals that harken back to Ford’s racing heritage,” said Matt Monroe, Ford licensing manager. “This 1968 Mustang fastback race car is a special product that adds even more excitement to Ford’s LEGO Speed Champions lineup.”

They will be available on March 1st at LEGO retailers and the LEGO Speed Champions section of the Online LEGO Shop.

They will be available on March 1st at LEGO retailers and the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.

I’m sure there will be a lot more news coming out this weekend from the New York Toy Fair, and if you would like to follow along, I would suggest that you keep an on some of the LEGO blogs, forums, and YouTube channels that are attending the event. I know representatives of the Brothers-Brick.com, FBTB.net, and BZPower.com are definitely going, and I expect that the brothers from The Brick Show will be there as well. I will summarize the various news and reports once the event is over, and in the meantime, we can discuss whatever we find out about in the comment section below. Feel free to share what you think and what new LEGO sets and themes you are looking forward to the most! 😉

Very excited about the HP sets! Can’t wait to see more! Also, the Hulkbuster was revealed this morning.

    • admin February 17, 2018, 4:25 PM

Yes, the Hulkbuster was evidently one of the highlights of the LEGO booth. 🙂

The Hogwarts Great Hall has some interesting new pieces, like a new rat, wands, and new wizard hat. Oh, also there are some images of that Brick Me Bricheadz set. I’m putting that on my wanted list.

I like the look of that BrickHeadz customizer set as well! 😀

  • kingcobra February 17, 2018, 10:49 AM

The Hulkbuster is super cool! Not such a big fan of the Falcon.

    • admin February 17, 2018, 4:26 PM

Apparently the front of the Falcon is a removable escape pod. I’m sure it will play a major role in the film. Certainly gives the Falcon a different look.

      • TomTom February 17, 2018, 4:53 PM

I would like to see how that works. I wonder if the UCS Falcon could be modified to include that escape pod. I think it would be an interesting project.

        • admin February 19, 2018, 12:33 PM

There is someone who is already doing that. I will write a post about their project once they are done. They started before it was known that the area was an escape pod, so will likely need to make some modifications.

The Marvel building looks so much like the modular Parisian Restaurant! I would love to see how it fits with the other modulars. Can’t wait for the HP sets, and the Powerpuff Girls look cute. I hope the sets will be good too.

    • admin February 17, 2018, 4:28 PM

Yes, I have heard a lot of people talking about turning that building into a Modular. And you are right; it is most similar to the Parisian. I suppose it shouldn’t be that difficult to make it modular.

  • Legostuff71 February 17, 2018, 11:04 AM

WOW! That’s the first thing that comes to mind . Second, the HP set looks Awesome. ( a must have ). However , this Version of it doesn’t match the colors in the older version . I can’t really add it on the original version of it. That’s fine considering this gives another generation get a HP theme. Third, I’m going to try and save up for the $100.00 dollars Marvel set. It would go great with my modular buildings.

    • admin February 17, 2018, 4:29 PM

My understanding is that there will be other sets in the HP line that will be able to connect to the Great Hall. I’m kind of sad they didn’t use sand-green for the roofs, as I thought that was a great combo with the tan for the older sets.

      • Håkan February 17, 2018, 5:26 PM

This dark gray color should apparently be closer to the appearance in the movies…

        • admin February 19, 2018, 12:32 PM

Yes, but it is still a better combo in my opinion. 🙂

  • Laurie February 17, 2018, 12:34 PM

Building with iron man cool, dinosaurs cool. Rest Meh.. No I treat in the rest however i do admit Hogwarts castle OK. Rest Lame Especially Star Wars hate it. However everyone has different taste and I’m cool with that;)

  • Nigel February 17, 2018, 2:24 PM

That Marvel building does look like it would sit nicely in with a row of modulars. 😬

  • Legostuff71 February 17, 2018, 3:41 PM

Looking at my Hogwarts great hall set ( it was last time Lego has made it) I think the older one is better. I can alway get sort legs for my mini figures . Its great for those who missed out on HP and get another chance to get it. I know I have time to think about it . But, I’m torn.

    • admin February 17, 2018, 4:32 PM

I think it would be best to wait until we see the rest of the HP sets before making a decision about investing in it. I do like the new minifigs and accessories, but I’m not convinced about the building itself. I’m not saying it’s bad, I just want to see how it fits with the other sets. 🙂

  • Legostuff71 February 17, 2018, 4:46 PM

I agree with you on that . I might do a “if I don’t have it in a set already get it “method. We’ll see.

  • Melanie February 17, 2018, 8:52 PM

Harry Potter! Yay! I don’t have any HP sets. It was during my so-called Lego “Dark Ages”. Is that what it’s called? I’ve always been sad that i missed out. I’m going to need a larger display area though. I told myself I would rotate display sets. Yeah, that’s not happening. Too hard to decide what to break down.

    • admin February 19, 2018, 12:32 PM

Just buy a bigger house. Problem solved. 😉

  • Hayato February 18, 2018, 11:34 AM

There was also a Boost dragon displayed. It appears that Boost is going to branch out to some of the themes to add robotics components.

    • admin February 19, 2018, 12:34 PM

Yes, I saw that too. The dragon looks really messy, but I hope it will function well. As far as I know, its capabilities were not demonstrated at the toy fair.
