February 2018 – new LEGO sets & promotions

At the beginning of the year, we got the first large wave of 2018 sets, but LEGO saved some exciting happenings for February as well. So, let’s take a look at all the interesting new sets and promotions during the month! 🙂

FREE 60 YEARS OF THE LEGO BRICK SET: This freebie started at the end of January, and will carry over until February 14th. The #40290 LEGO 60 Years of the LEGO Brick is a collection of mini versions of some of the most iconic sets from LEGO’s past, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick. You can get the set with purchases of $125 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO FRIENDS SUNFLOWER SET: For Valentine’s Day (February 14th), LEGO is offering a special promotional item, the LEGO Friends Sunflower with purchases of $20 or more. Please note that this is a one-day promotion only, while supplies last. The cute brickbuilt flower can be a nice Valentine’s Day gift for a LEGO fan, and it is also a great lesson in building LEGO flowers! You can get it at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO BRICKHEADZ VALENTINE’S DAY BEE: Speaking of Valentine’s Day, the #40270 LEGO BrickHeadz Valentine’s Day Bee is another cute little item you can get for your Valentine. It is available under the LEGO BrickHeadz section of the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO YEAR OF THE DOG SET: During the second half of the month (February 16-28), you can get the #40235 LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog set with purchases of $88 or more. Brickbuilt sets like these are always fun, especially when they include a super cute puppy! It is going to be available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO IDEAS SHIP IN A BOTTLE AVAILABLE: The #21313 LEGO Ideas Ship In A Bottle set is now available! The set was originally submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform by LEGO fan Jacob Sadovich from Idaho, achieved 10,000 public votes, and was selected by LEGO to become an official set. I have included the designer-video of the set below, and you can find it under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2018 LEGO SETS AVAILABLE: While the #21313 LEGO Ideas Ship In A Bottle is the only new set, there are plenty to catch up with from last month! This includes the #10260 LEGO Creator Downtown Diner, the latest in the LEGO Modular Building series, the #21039 LEGO Architecture Shanghai set, five new brickbuilt characters in the LEGO BrickHeadz collection, and many new sets under the LEGO Classic, LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Disney, LEGO Elves, LEGO Friends, LEGO Juniors, LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Nexo Knights, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO DC Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and LEGO Technic categories. Also, don’t forget some of big releases from the end of last year, like the #70922 LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Manor, and the #10256 LEGO Creator Taj Mahal. You can find them all under the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop.

FEBRUARY LEGO STORE EVENTS: If you live near an official LEGO store, there are also some in-store events that you might want to take advantage of. Kids ages 6-14 can participate in the LEGO City Mining Building Event until February 13th, replaced by the LEGO City Mountain Police Building Event for the second half of the month. February 6th and 7th, the LEGO Monthly Mini Model Build is a car and a gas pump (also intended for ages 6-14). On February 15th, there is an adults-only Valentine’s Day themed building night, and on February 17th & 24th kids can participate in a LEGO Life Meeting. If you would like to participate in any of the events, I would suggest that you call your LEGO store ahead of time, as some of the events require prior registration.

This month is going to be an excellent time to catch up on the January releases, especially during the #40290 LEGO 60 Years of the LEGO Brick promotion. The second half of the month is more quiet, but that’s a good thing, because we need time to build too! It is also worth noting that the #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, and the #21312 LEGO Ideas Women of NASA sets are finally back in stock. You can find both sets under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the 2018 sets released so far? Did you get any of them already? And which ones are still on your wanted list? Are you planning to do some shopping this month? What are you going to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Off topic, I just watched a video from Jangbricks saying that there isn’t going to be a second wave of NEXO Knights this year. Is that true ?

Yes, that is correct. We will talk about all the news coming out of the toy fair’s next week. The Nuremberg Toy Fair is happening right now, and will last through the weekend.

I like the ship in the bottle set . My Dad , when he was a young kid , he use to make models . One in particular was a model ship . So , he thought it would be funny to put a bottle in it . So , instead of a ship in a bottle . It was a bottle in a ship. Lol.

I don’t get why this set is called ship-in-a-bottle when you are not building the ship inside the bottle at all, but build the bottle around the ship. It looks great, and I love the stand, but it feels like cheating.

There is an Easter Bunny BrickHeadz coming soon. 😉

        • James February 2, 2018, 1:46 AM

And if you look at the photos of the Valentine’s Bee and Easter Bunny Brickheadz boxes, you can see that there are going to be Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Brickheadz sets coming too.

Hey, is it a ship? Yes! Is it in a bottle? Yes!

        Don’t fuss!

  • FrenchToast February 1, 2018, 3:38 PM

This is the first Brickheadz I like. Are there any more non-Star Wars or super heroes Brickheadz?

    • James February 2, 2018, 1:47 AM

Take a look at the photo of the back of the box to see the other Brickheadz in that set. 😉

I think the ship is a must. There are issues with it (short mast), but overall it looks great. Kind of pricey though.

When are the new Speed Champions coming?

    • admin February 1, 2018, 4:46 PM

My guess would be March or April. That was their release time in previous years.

  • jabber-baby-wocky February 1, 2018, 4:57 PM

Will the anniversary sets be available from Lego? I’m not talking about the free one, but the other ones like the house and windmill.

    • admin February 2, 2018, 11:39 AM

I’m not sure about that. I assume they will be eventually listed, but right now they are a Wal-Mart special.

  • Tony February 2, 2018, 12:21 PM

The anniversary set is already gone! They replaced it with the City dragster that was a freebie last month. Such a shame….

    • hushpuppy February 2, 2018, 12:26 PM

I wasn’t able to get it either! This is such a letdown! Are they going to get more stock? Should I wait?

      • Ray February 2, 2018, 4:16 PM

I just discovered I missed it, too. In theory, some brick and mortar Lego stores might still have them, but probably not.

Seems we all (Lego included) underestimated the demand for the thing. It’s only been four days!

        • Will February 2, 2018, 6:26 PM

Yeah, going to a store might be the last chance fans have to get it. Otherwise it’s on to the secondary market.

But it definitely seems under printed. It’s a perfect candidate to have multiple times this year so over printing wouldn’t have hurt anything.

But four days? That’s just sad.

      • admin February 2, 2018, 10:27 PM

Not sure if they are going to have more. I agree that this is a disappointment. 🙁

  • Mav.Weirdo February 2, 2018, 11:26 PM

I was in a Lego store last week and looked at the display of the 60th anniversary set. Other than the print most of the parts looked fairly common.

If they post the instructions online it might be possible to replicate most of the builds.
