LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy review roundup

We have already talked about the newly released #21314 LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy set in detail a few days ago (see: LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy Set Review), however I have run across some other really good reviews and interviews by other LEGO fans that I thought to share with you today. 🙂

First, let me start with these glorious pictures by toy photographer Ballou34 from StuckInPlastic.com. They have taken some other really nice photos of the set that are worth checking out, and I also recommend Ballou34’s Instagram page for more great LEGO photography.

NewElementary.com reviewed the set focusing on all the interesting parts, new colors, and printed elements, while the Brothers-Brick.com and Brickset.com published more traditional reviews looking at every aspect of the set. In my experience, it is worth checking out different reviews of a new LEGO set you are interested in, because different reviewers will have different thoughts and perspectives, and may point out interesting details you may have not noticed otherwise.

JANGBRiCKS published a video-review of the #21314 LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy set as well. I always enjoy his thoughtful and balanced reviews, so I’m including it below. In addition, I have already shared the designer-video in my previous review, which is also worth watching.

Not reviews, but there are a couple of interesting reports and interviews from the signing event with the two brothers who designed the set that took place at the LEGO store in Leicester Square, London at the end of March. One of the reports and an interview is at Brickset, and the other report is at the LEGO Ideas blog. Just click the links to get there. In addition, the brothers themselves did a video-review of the set that you can watch below.

Overall, most reviewers agree that the #21314 LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy set is well-designed and looks great on display, plus the minifigs are exceptional. On the other hand, the set has a limited appeal to pretty much just TRON fans, and the price is unusually high. So, those are some plusses and minuses you need to consider before purchasing the set at either official LEGO stores or the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy set? Were you looking forward to this model? How do you like it compared to the original submission? And what do you think of the minifigures and the Light Cycles? Feel free to share your thoughts and own review in the comment section below! 😉

Those first couple of pictures are fantastic! Really great job by Ballou34!

The set is great, and I see the potential for expansion, but why is it so expensive?

No kidding! Check the feedback on their website. So many people are complaining about the price. With 230 pieces this should have been a $25 set. Maybe $30, but even that is a stretch. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Oh, and no offense to the designers. The set is great. The price is not their fault.

Yeah, the price has been questioned by a lot of people. If it doesn’t sell, I’m sure LEGO will put it on sale. Of course, since this is a limited-release set, there is also a chance of it running out.

Yeah, exactly. It’s a limited release with an additional license cost.

I bought it at $35 with the hope that it would do well enough to see more TRON sets, especially since a third movie is apparently still in the works. I’d rather have paid less for sure, but I really love the final product and it’s much more impressive in person than in pics IMO.

The set is indeed impressive. And if you are a TRON fan, it’s pretty much a must. Good point about the possibility of future sets. Would love to see that! 😀

The brothers uploaded a couple of other videos on their channel with alternate builds. Here is their light cycle battle display https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNQx7V8OAHE&feature=youtu.be and here is a light racer using the parts from the set https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5fVzK3o2zA&feature=youtu.be

Thanks for that! Very cool! 🙂

The Old Fishing shop is still the best. I think Lego should focus on more building designs and not so much on vehicles. Vehicles are so common in other themes . I just think Lego should shake it up a bit and make it more interesting. I’m not saying that the TRON Legacy Ideas set isn’t cool, I was hoping for something different. Yes, I think the price is just a little too high for my taste. I may have to skip it. As well as other sets in the near future ( it depends on the price). As long as Lego has $30. Or $40. Prices ( that makes it worth the purchase ) I’m in .
