July 2018 – new LEGO sets & Promotions

There are quite a few new LEGO sets this month, including the first wave of the long-awaited and very exciting reboot of the LEGO Harry Potter line. In addition, there are also a number of promotions, Double VIP Points, and more. Check below for all the details and enjoy all the good things LEGO brings us this summer. 🙂

FREE LEGO BEACH TOTE: During the first week of July (until July 8th), you will get a free exclusive LEGO Beach Tote with purchases of $199 or more. LEGO offered a similar tote bag in previous summers, but this one looks even better with the blueprint of a minifig on really nice dark-blue material. The size of the tote is 18×18 inches. With all the new sets out, it’s not hard to meet the minimum purchase amount at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO PARTY BANANA MINIFIGURE: The second week of July (July 9-15) you will get a free LEGO Party Banana Minifigure with purchases of $35 or more. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

DOUBLE VIP POINTS: Although this is not mentioned in the calendar, but LEGO sent out an email that LEGO VIP members will earn Double VIP Points on all purchases until July 7th. In addition, LEGO is offering Double VIP Points on the #31079 LEGO Creator Sunshine Surfer Van, and the #31080 LEGO Creator Modular Winter Vacation for the entire month of July. Find both at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP EARLY ACCESS TO VOLTRON SET: As mentioned in the press-release of the #21311 LEGO Ideas Voltron set (see: LEGO Ideas Voltron Set Announcement), LEGO VIP members get early access to the set starting on July 23rd (regular release will be on August 1st). You can find the set at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP EARLY ACCESS TO MYSTERY SET: There is another early access to a LEGO exclusive starting on July 18th, but it is not yet clear what this set is going to be. It could be the mysterious James Bond-inspired set LEGO tweeted about last month, or it could be something else. Stay tuned, as it shouldn’t take long for an official announcement!

LEGO HARRY POTTER SETS AVAILABLE: While initially LEGO stated that the new LEGO Harry Potter sets will be available in August, it looks like they decided to release them early! The #75950 LEGO Harry Potter Aragog’s Lair, the #75953 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Whomping Willow, the #75954 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall, the #75955 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express, and the #75956 LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Match are now available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

No Harry Potter collectible minifigs yet?

    • Håkan July 1, 2018, 12:55 PM

The HP CMF series won’t be officially released until Aug 1st. (Worldwide, I’d assume.)

      • Håkan July 1, 2018, 12:56 PM

Images of the chosen characters have been released, however.

HOGWARTS EXPRESS IS NOT AVAILABLE ON LEGO SHOP !!!

I REPEAT, HOGWARTS EXPRESS IS NOT AVAILABLE ON LEGO SHOP !!!

Yet again, LEGO managed to foul up the release of a highly anticipated set, the Hogwarts Express.

I was able to pre-order all of the sets just after midnight here in the US, but when I attempted to add the Hogwarts Express, I received the “sorry but there has been an unexpected error” or whatever it said message. After several more attempts, the product page then stated that the Hogwarts Express was NOT AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY.

Furthermore, it was removed from my Wish List AND if you attempt to search for it under the Sets option, you can find it if you check the box “X_NOT-FOUND” which I have never seen before. And despite hitting the “Add to My Wish List” button and receiving the little heart confirmation on the product page the it has been added to my wish list, it DOES NOT get added to my wish list.

Even on the Target website here in the US, the page for Hogwarts Express kept stating “Coming Soon” with a release date of July 1, 2018. It now says the product is out of stock – even though it was never in stock to be ordered.

I emailed LEGO customer service, but have not yet received a reply.

Wow… that’s really strange. And I have never seen that before either. The Hogwarts Express was definitely at the Online LEGO Shop yesterday, when I wrote this article, showing that it will be available today. I wonder what happened… 😐

I did a bit of investigation on this, and it looks like that official LEGO stores and various LEGO retailers do have the Hogwarts Express in stock. I still don’t know why it was pulled from the Online LEGO Shop. It’s probably a glitch that should be resolved in a day or two. However, if you are in a hurry, you can also check if any of your local stores carry it.

  • MJS MD July 1, 2018, 12:58 PM

There are no local LEGO stores where I live. That’s why I rely on the online shop to purchase products on the day that they are supposed to be available. I got thru the Millennium Falcon fiasco on the day that that had happened, but this was entirely different and makes absolutely no sense, with the ”Not available in your country” on the product page as well as the “X_NOT_FOUND” availability listing.

Not to mention it being ”Out of stock” on the Target website ( which I am also not near ) when it was never in stock to begin with.

I would suggest maybe calling customer service. If they do have the set in stock, and it’s just the website glitching, they can take your order over the phone. Or, they can explain when we can expect to be able to place an order. If the set is still not in stock by tomorrow, I will can reach out to my contacts at LEGO to see what’s going on.

The service rep that I spoke with states that they are aware of the problem and are working to fix it within the next 24 hours. He could not go into any more detail than that. Fingers crossed. Thanks.

        • admin July 1, 2018, 2:19 PM

It’s good to hear they are aware of the problem and working on it. Hopefully it will b e back again soon. 🙂

Very happy about the HP sets! Hope we can collect them all!

  • Martin July 1, 2018, 9:35 PM

I’m curious to see the Harry Potter sets in more detail. Any reviews yet?

  • MJS MD July 2, 2018, 11:08 AM

Was finally able to order Hogwarts Express from the online shop after yesterday’s major malfunction. Ordered it around 730 am EDT and it was in stock at the time.

    • admin July 2, 2018, 11:31 AM

Awesome to hear! Thanks for the update! 🙂

  • Tony July 2, 2018, 4:14 PM

Is there going to be any special sale for the 4th of July in the US? Just wondering if I should wait a couple of more days.

    • admin July 2, 2018, 8:31 PM

Nothing specifically for the 4th, as far as I’m aware of. Just the Double VIP Points, and Tote Bag. You might want to check the sales page too though, to see if anything new is added.

  • TomTom July 2, 2018, 9:01 PM

All these new Brickheadz! While I like them, I think collecting them is no longer fun. Slightly off topic, but I saw another picture of the HP collectible minifigs! They look awesome!

    • admin July 3, 2018, 3:40 PM

Yeah, I saw those minifigs too! So many great accessories! 😀

  • waverider July 2, 2018, 9:27 PM

Does anybody know if the train can be motorized? Does it include instructions to be motorized, or we have to figure it out on our own if we want to motorize it?

    • admin July 3, 2018, 3:41 PM

I did see a motorized version already, so it’s definitely possible. However, since LEGO doesn’t advertise it as motorization-ready, there are probably some adjustments that need to be made. I’m sure we will start to see tips and instructions from LEGO fans soon.
