The LEGO Movie 2 – second trailer & new sets!

LEGO created tremendous amount of buzz yesterday by revealing the second trailer for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (you can watch the first trailer here), and also uploaded all the new sets related to the film to The LEGO Movie 2 section of the Online LEGO Shop. There is a lot to be excited about, so let’s take a look. 🙂

Hang on to your fronds! Emmet ventures to another universe in the new trailer for The LEGO Movie 2! The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, The LEGO Movie 2 reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all-new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman, and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and master building skills, and reveal just how special they really are. Watch the trailer below.

Reprising their starring roles from the first film are Chris Pratt as Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy (a.k.a. Wyldstyle), Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, Alison Brie as Unikitty and Charlie Day as Benny. They are joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro as, respectively, new characters Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone. The LEGO Movie 2 is directed by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Ever After, Trolls, Sky High). It is produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Roy Lee, the team behind the LEGO film franchise since The LEGO Movie debuted in 2014. The screenplay is by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and Matthew Fogel, story by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, based on LEGO construction toys. Serving as executive producers are Jill Wilfert, Matthew Ashton, Jinko Gotoh, Chris McKay, Zareh Nalbandian, and Courtenay Valenti. Patrick Marc Hanenberger (Rise of the Guardians) is the production designer, and Claire Knight is the editor. The music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnorak, The LEGO Movie). Trisha Gum is the animation director. The film opens nationwide in 2D and 3D beginning Friday, February 8, 2019.

Based on the trailer, it is pretty clear that The LEGO Movie 2 is not going to disappoint. The story, characters, and humor all live up to what LEGO fans have been expecting, and more! In addition to the trailer, LEGO also listed nineteen new LEGO sets related to the movie with detailed pictures, descriptions, and prices. The selection includes small, medium, and large sets, and an incredible selection of vehicles and minifigures.

One of the smallest sets, the #70841 LEGO Movie 2 Benny’s Space Squad, is particularly exciting for the LEGO Classic Space fan community, as it includes Benny (in blue), along with three other LEGO Classic Space astronauts in white, yellow, and pink! Plus, a LEGO Classic Space robot and two small vehicles. I hope LEGO is going to make enough of this set, because it is going to sell like hotcakes! Other small sets in the $10-$20 range include the #70822 LEGO Movie 2 Unikitty’s Sweetest Friends EVER!, the #70823 LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Thricycle!, the #70836 LEGO Movie 2 Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard, the #70821 LEGO Movie 2 Emmet and Benny’s ‘Build and Fix’ Workshop!, and the #70824 LEGO Movie 2 Introducing Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi.

Mid-size sets in the $30-$40 range include the #70826 LEGO Movie 2 Rex’s Rex-treme Offroader!, the #70827 LEGO Movie 2 Ultrakatty & Warrior Lucy!, the #70832 LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Builder Box!, the #70833 LEGO Movie 2 Lucy’s Builder Box!, the #10895 The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet and Lucy’s Visitors from the DUPLO Planet (with the cutest LEGO DUPLO figures ever!), and the #70825 LEGO Movie 2 Queen Watevra’s Build Whatever Box!

Larger sets in the $50-$80 range include the #70829 LEGO Movie 2 Emmet and Lucy’s Escape Buggy!, the #70820 LEGO Movie Maker (with a movie maker backdrop), the #70834 LEGO Movie 2 MetalBeard’s Heavy Metal Motor Trike!, the #70831 LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Dream House/Rescue Rocket!, and the #70830 LEGO Movie 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship! The two largest sets are the #70828 LEGO Movie 2 Pop-Up Party Bus and the #70835 The LEGO Movie 2 Rex’s Rexplorer!

There is a lot to see and discover in each of the sets, so if you are interested, check out the full descriptions, high-resolution images, and other details at The LEGO Movie 2 section of the Online LEGO Shop. As mentioned above, The LEGO Movie 2 film won’t be released until February, however all the sets will be available on December 26th at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

Yes, yes ,and oh so Yes! The sets are so cool . I plan on getting at least a couple of benny’ s space squad sets ( to make different color coordinated teams). Each team is used for different space routines. As for the rest I want them all. The movie looks very “mad max ” themed . Or maybe mad max meets dune.😊

Emmitt’s Dream House is my favorite, but $70 seems pretty steep.
Of course I will buy a couple of Benny’s Space Squad.

The sets are fantastic, and I really like the trailer. Is Rex Dangervest the alter ego of Emmet?

  • Sith015 November 21, 2018, 2:36 PM

Sewer babies!!!! Are they going to be in any of the sets? I want a whole army of them!!! And Spacemen!!!

    • admin November 21, 2018, 5:38 PM

Yes, we definitely need lots of sewer babies! 🙄

On Brothers Brick, it was noted that sets 70837-70840 was suspiciously missing, so it’s possible later sets with possible spoilers would be showing up in later waves.

Hm… good notice! We will have to keep an eye out for those set numbers! 😀

I spot a teal brick separator! And is that stripe on the Party Bus salmon? We haven’t seen that color in ages! The sets have so many great colors and parts. Can’t wait for the release! But why right after Christmas?

    • admin November 21, 2018, 5:39 PM

Good notice! Yes, that’s a teal brick-separator. As far as the color on the Party Bus, it definitely looks like salmon, or something very similar. My guess is that LEGO is trying to sell as many of the current sets as possible for Christmas and don’t want to distract buyers with new sets.

Apparently the official name is Vibrant Coral, which has a slightly more beautiful ring to it… Time will tell how much different it is from old Salmon, and which terminology BrickLink would prefer…

        • admin November 22, 2018, 8:32 PM

If the color is the same as previously, BrickLink will just use the same color name, but if there is any difference, they will come up with a new name. Vibrant Coral does sound lovely. 🙂

          • Håkan November 23, 2018, 3:06 AM

            A coral color.

(I believe there was some distinct colors which were sorted together, but the differences were quite subtle, and the various hues came in different parts, as well, so there was no reason for separating them.)

This movie is going to be EPIC! I can already see it. The producers know Lego fans very well. And four spacemen in one set in four different colors? I don’t know if they realize how popular that set is going to be. Everyone I talked to want at least ten!!

  • Håkan November 21, 2018, 6:16 PM

Yeah, dag. There are some cool minifigs there, but the only set I can see myself buying is the Space Squad…

(I prefer Futuron, though. Just found a bunch of cheap Classic Space and Futuron minifigs etc. on a thrift store…)

  • Legostuff14 November 21, 2018, 8:04 PM

It looks like I can get away with the $40. $30 and under sets. That’s still give me a lot from this theme. ( of course I want them all but, my budget says otherwise). Lol.🤑

    • Håkan November 21, 2018, 8:52 PM

You know, four $10 sets equal one $40 set, if you ponder mathematics…

      • admin November 22, 2018, 8:35 PM

LOL! LEGO addicts doing math never works out good. 🙄

  • Legostuff14 November 21, 2018, 9:39 PM

Actually, I ponder more on what I can get then on the mathematics. Besides my goal is to get as many sets of this theme as possible. I follow my first rule “get what I can afford ” and second “My stay under $50 rule”.

  • Legostuff14 November 21, 2018, 9:59 PM

Come to think of it, no matter how you look at it. We are still going to ponder the math aspect ,because, using money requires mathematics whether you spend it or not. However I stand by the spending aspect because, it’s a lot more fun to spend than to save.

    • Håkan November 21, 2018, 10:04 PM

I guess so, for as long as you can keep it up…

(I have a decent grasp of my budget, though, my main problem is actually the space to store everything…)

    • admin November 22, 2018, 8:36 PM

But we can only spend what we save… the ultimate paradox! 😀

  • Legostuff14 November 21, 2018, 11:32 PM

I hear you on that one. I guess that would be multiply and divide concept. Lol!

  • Rebecca January 1, 2019, 2:17 PM

We got the Pop-up Party Bus on Dec 27th. Has anyone reviewed this yet? We are noticing a design flaw- When the top of the bus opened to reveal the upper stage the hinge support isn’t strong enough and the bus falls apart every time you open it. I’m probably going to reach out to social media to see if anyone else has experienced this and what the feedback from Lego is etc.

    • admin January 1, 2019, 8:24 PM

Rebecca, I just watched JANGBRiCKS’ review this morning, and he didn’t mention any issues with the hinges. He folds out the hinges in the video just fine. You might want to take a look at his review. Perhaps something wasn’t assembled correctly in your set? Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0I6SgQSMMQ&feature=youtu.be
