Bricks & Blooms LEGO modular garden center

Last year, we discussed several of the custom LEGO Modular Buildings by British LEGO fan bricked1980 (see links at the end of this post). His custom LEGO post office has been particularly popular due to its lovely details, and because it perfectly matches the size and style of the official LEGO Modular Buildings. Many LEGO fans requested building instructions, and suggested submitting the model to LEGO Ideas for the possibility for it to become an official LEGO set. Although bricked1980 does have a couple of smaller models on the LEGO Ideas platform (see his profile here), the custom modular buildings he designed so far were too large based on LEGO Ideas guidelines. Recently, however, he submitted a smaller LEGO Modular Building project to LEGO Ideas, which is now open for voting. 🙂

Bricks & Blooms comes with 2,587 pieces and built on a 32×32-stud baseplate. It features a three-story garden center designed to be compatible with existing LEGO Modular Buildings. The facade gives the impression of two buildings side by side, however this is just for visual interest. The front to back measurement of the building is quite narrow (similar to the #10243 LEGO Creator Parisian Restaurant). This was done to leave ample space at the back of the building for the outdoor area of the garden center.

At ground level is the garden center itself with plants and gardening tools for sale. On the street side of the garden center, fruits, veggies, and flowers are sold. At the back of the garden center, there is a large outdoor area with a glass canopy, selling plants and other gardening products. On the second floor, there is a café, accessed by steps at the back. It includes a nicely detailed kitchen and seating for guests. There is also a small balcony looking out the street below. Many garden centers in the UK also have a department with pet fish and aquatics, which you can find on the third floor of this building. In addition, a door at the side leads out to a small roof terrace area.

If you enjoy the modular garden center, and would like it to become an official LEGO set, you can vote for it on LEGO Ideas. You can also check out bricked1980’s other projects, and vote for those as well. And for the currently available official LEGO Modular Buildings, visit the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the modular garden center? Do you think it would make a good addition to the LEGO Modular Buildings? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Now that’s what I want to see Lego do. We need a grocery store , a flower shop and a post office. I just love my diner it goes great with my detectives office . In fact I’m thinking of making a driven movie theater.

Yeah, we really need a post office. Curious about your movie theatre idea too! 😀

I like both this and the post office. Lego should hire this guy. 😀

Although I prefer the post office, I will vote for this too. The layout is a little strange for Americans, but we can always rearrange the inside. I like the facade very much.

I hope that the Post Office will also be available. I would love to build that one!

As I Swede, I find that most post offices have been shut down, with the major services taken over by convenience stores, anyway…

      • admin January 16, 2019, 4:31 PM

Oh, really? Interesting! So you mail packages at convenience stores?

        • Håkan January 16, 2019, 4:50 PM

Yeah, basically. Sometimes the waiting line has to stop while the clerk goes into the office to find a package… But I guess it’s still considered more efficient… =/

Hm… here, there are some places where you can drop off packages meant for the post office, and probably even more so in rural areas. But they have to be really efficient and reliable as nobody wants to deal with missing packages or mail. Anyway, always interesting to hear how different countries do things. 🙂

Maybe it’s mostly “efficient” in the sense that it costs less tax money… =/ I think the postal system was largely privatized here, a while ago…

Here the post office is still a government entity, although we also have private carriers like FedEx, UPS, and DHL. The post office is an important part of the system, especially in rural areas.

I love the street view with all the buildings next to each other. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this entire collection. I hope it achieves enough votes and it will be chosen as a set. I was so bummed when the projects that matched the Old Fishing Store weren’t selected.

Is there a modular building community with custom sets like this? I’m not so keen on the last two buildings released by Lego. They are nice sets, but I just don’t like the architecture that much. I prefer the style of these, the Parisian, and Assembly Square.

  • Legostuff14 January 16, 2019, 5:46 PM

I just thought of something, Lego likes us ( the builders) to create things . just like the architectural set and the brickheads they made a kit to build something ourselves. It would be nice if Lego made a how to build your own modular building kit and see the creation that comes out of it. I think it might be a big deal in the Lego fan community.

It’s a great idea, but it might be hard to implement. The Architecture Studio set is successful because it only includes white pieces (and some trans-clear ones). With not having to worry about color, the set can fully focus on shape and educational instructions. The Modular buildings are pretty large and expensive, and I think LEGO fans might not want to spend the money if an educational set only includes one color. And if then include more colors, they immediately limit what can be done with the set. I think for the Modulars an educational book works better. If you are interested, check out the LEGO Neighborhood books. They are all about expanding the LEGO Modular buildings. The first book in the series has a very interesting sections about building a “skeleton” modular with removable and interchangeable facades.
