Short LEGO brickfilm: A Little Thing…

Animator and LEGO fan N.Carlier (Carlierti Studios) from Switzerland wanted to share with our readers one of his first LEGO brickfilms, titled A Little Thing. After checking it out myself, I have to say it’s definitely worth watching. The story is sweet, the animation is beautiful, and it’s all in the spirit of the holidays. ๐Ÿ™‚

N. Charlier mentions that he made the film using MecaBricks, the online LEGO rendering and animation software (for more info see links at the end of this post), and Blender, the free and open source 3D creation suite. Creating the story idea, digitally building the models, animation, rendering, compositing, etc. all took about three months. As we discussed previously, brickfilming is a tedious process that requires a lot of patience, hard work, and dedication to the art. You can watch the full 3-minute long film below.

Sweet story, isn’t it? And the animation is excellent! To see more of N. Carlier’s work, his YouTube channel has a number of short brickfilms and demonstrations on using MecaBricks and other digital design and animation software. If you are into LEGO animation, you might want to check them out. And if you liked the film, share it with friends to give it a bit more exposure. If you are interested to learn brickfilming yourself, I highly recommend The LEGO Animation Book: Make Your Own LEGO Movies! by David Pagano and David Pickett. They systematically go through all aspect of LEGO animation in a fun and interesting way. You can read a full review of the book here: The LEGO Animation Book Review & Thoughts

What do you think? How did you like this LEGO brickfilm? Are you interested in LEGO animation? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dang, that was pretty darn good! Very nice message too. I like how the figures act very much like actual plastic figures (no unrealistic bending, as if they were actually rubber) yet still had plenty of personality. I also noticed that there were very tiny flaws here in there, like one I think I saw on the main character’s snow cap which also added to the realism.

On a side note, I very (and I do mean very!) briefly played around with Blender; I felt like someone had handed me the controls to the star ship Enterprise! So, I mostly goof around now and then with another 3D program called Unity, also free to download.

THis is lovely! The animation is so smooth, and I love the story. As the title says, it’s a simple thing, but so touching.

Very nice video. And it’s appropriate for the season. I hope they will make some more! I could watch a full film in this style. ๐Ÿ˜€
